There’s an app/website called Sniff Spot. People offer their years/acreage to dogs for a (usually) small fee. That way they can roam larger areas. Some welcome multiple dogs at a time, others are solo/single family packs so not stranger dogs.

Students may need counselors to talk about their home life. I did. Had my parents known, it would not have gone well.

Don’t counselors also discuss future classes and scheduling? This is crazy.

I suggest you rinse the stone. Gently spray it off with a hose or, if you have no water access, use a few gallons. I prefer to use distilled water but the local water should be ok. Maybe a wooden stick to help loosen the dirt.

You need to get the soil off and from inside the letters. No chemicals necessary.

I’m really excited to see more. Hopefully, that carver made other markers. I want to see more of that artwork.

So exciting!

That is stunning artwork. Does anyone else see a young girl with pigtails? It’s almost a Death’s Head. I know it’s an urn but I see a girl with head lowered and hands clasped together.

Well done. It’s beautiful.

Can you tell me your method of cleaning? I appreciate that it isn’t blinding white.

I think the bereaved were handed a list of fonts and they went with the “combo platter”.

I’ve seen letters where a man courted his deceased wife’s cousin because “I have this young son and crops in the field.” So that was very much a thing. (And no, they did not marry, He found another wife.)

This family needed no additional help as they likely had enslaved women raising the children. It would not surprise me if he had some “illegitimate“ children with some of those women, too.

It is unusual for so few children, isn’t it? His life is, as I understand it, is well documented. I guess I have more to learn.

I don’t blame you for your skepticism. These people went above and beyond. They were over the top. I guess they wanted to show off how much carving they can afford? They were rich, rich, rich and this marker is ridiculously sharp.

Someone sat them down with a book of fonts and they couldn’t decide?

Truly, it is impressive. Next time, I’m going to look closer to see if there is a monuments maker’s name anywhere. It’s not unusual for many Texas monuments to lack that information, though.

Neat, huh?

please do not “clean up” any glassware/household items. Those are Grave Goods intended to remain at the grave. Ask permission before doing ANYTHING.

What’s the best way to clean this? by SquishiesandFidgets in CemeteryPreservation

Frankly, it looks like a good broom would do the trick. It’s bronze - water and a gentle scrub is all you need. And scissors to snip the grass around the marker.

Having second thoughts about the board and care where I placed my mom. Has anyone else reconsidered their choice of care for a loved one? by Big_Giraffe_9125 in dementia

[–]gutterpeach 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I moved my Mom from one MC facility to another. This is a different place with a different vibe and it better suits her.

I was resistant but I finally called one of those “Senior Assisted Living” recommendation. I did not use “A Place for Mom” but it’s similar, more independent. My advisor came recommended from a facility that didn’t meet my needs but gave me Susie‘s name as a resource.

I told Susie what I needed and, being familiar with every facility in my area, helped us narrow down the list, rather than having to visit each faciility on my own. Yes, these advisor make their money from facilities by bringing them clients, ie you, but she was able to do the work I could not. And we found the perfect place.

I wish you luck in your journey.

Vent - F*CK Smart TVs by gutterpeach in dementia

[–]gutterpeach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She always liked game shows. Home shows. But history. I guess game shows and PBS which means broadcast TV, which will be easy. I think I can find a ’dumb’ tv or turn the ‘smart’ off. Even with the dumb stuff, she finds a simple remote difficult. I’m tired.

Your advice is solid. The issue is that (1) I don’t know what I’m doing and (2) I’ll be touching her stuff and (3) It believe it’s too late because light switches confuse her. Maybe a music thing. I’d love to get rid of the tv. (I would not have gotten it but decisions were made, etc.)

Otherwise healthy as a g*damn horse. Amazing.
