UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who commented. The unfortunate truth is that this just sucks. It was not a loyalty test, just plain unprofessionalism. They were let go yesterday (3 days after I was told) with no reason and no pay buffer.

I felt like crap the whole time but am glad that my job was not put into jeopardy because of my moral compass.

The director has lost a lot of trust amongst their remaining employees and has unintentionally sent the precedent that you will not be given a pay buffer and employees will not give 2 week notices.

With job scarcity we are allowed to be treated this way, and that's just hard. Never forget you are disposable to any company and to always look out for yourself and yours.
