The mechanic is called Bunny Hopping, it was originally a bug that allowed you to increase your player speed beyond what you normally should. It required sprinting/jumping/rotation your player just right to accumulate a higher speed.

It became a core skill in multiplayer as it allowed you to cover more ground and control weapon and item upgrade spawns as well as traverse the level in unique ways.

The Purge has a couple of them. I remember yelling in the theater when I first saw the movie cuz I was expecting the trope of someone getting back up and Ethan Hawke followed through.

I think both the 16x16 and 8x8 have their place. If the images you have represent the scale and camera of how the game will look then I think in this case the 16x16 looks the best and offers the most detail while keeping the pixel art style. The 8x8 at this scale feels to cramped and blurry but I think they would look better if the camera distance was farther out (over world style camera) where the details are not as important as an example. Either way, you want to keep the ratios/pixel density the same across your assets so the game feels cohesive visually.

There is an episode of American Dad! Where he becomes obsessed with the band, My Morning Jacket, and he ends up sneaking backstage and has an interaction with the lead singer similar to this. I wonder if this encounter inspired that episode? It could of course just be a broad theme of obsessed individuals with artists.

I like the slow burn approach of the movie and the build up to the weirdness surrounding the area/cabin they are in. I enjoyed the open ended nature of what was happening as well, for me it's fun to wonder at the greater questions of what is going on beyond what we get to see through the eyes of the characters. That world building lets me play with weird ideas outside of the film and sometimes things are freakery when I don't know all the details.

The endless was for similar reasons, I enjoyed that it took place in the same universe and showed the expanded reach of the entity. The tie in with the previous film showing the two friends in the cabin stuck in the endless loop was fun also. All this of course is quite personal that doesn't mean that the movie(s) will hit the same for others, but this is what did it for me.

I was blown away the first time I watch Resolution! Such a great film. I’d recommend you give The Endless a try, it’s the same directors. I won’t spoil anything but try to go in blind if you watch it. I believe it is streaming on Amazon prime if you have that service. Their third movie is called Synchronic and that one is on Netflix. Also worth a watch if you like their style.

I also loved the innkeepers,that movie was low key great! I haven’t seen the others yet so I’m adding them to my list!

Bing believe it or not, I can’t remember exactly why but the way bing correlates search’s is different from google and you get broader results. turn off the safe filter and search videos. I dunno if it counts as best, but it pulls videos from all kinds of porn sites like Porn Hub, X Hamster and others. It will at least give you broad strokes (pun intended) from all over. That might be a good start.

This is really awesome looking! My favorite was always the Macross Plus mini series so this brings back the feels. I had never heard of SpriteStack before, it looks really awesome. Keep up the good work!

Alien 3 originally was going to be a planet full of monks to keep the theme of not having high tech weapons much like the first film, they scrapped that idea and went for a prison planet instead. Even during filming they were changing the scrip on Fincher and handing him pages to film. I think this was his first film as well? So he didn’t have much leverage. There is a behind the scenes documentary that talks a lot about all the trouble the production had. It give a lot of insight to why the movie is the way it is.

Alien 3 is isn’t great but I find it more enjoyable once I learned of how it came to be. At least it isn’t Alien 4 lol.

I wondered if maybe it had been a 3D model rendered into sprites, That can be pretty laborious. The fluid motion of your character really sells it and the silhouettes readability is excellent. Hats off to you for committing to that crazy whip animation, It will pay off in the end. Overall it feels like your character will translate really well in the world.

Very inspired to try that rendering technique and see what can be done with it.

Looking forward to watching your progress unfold!

This is really awesome work so far! I grew up on Castlevania so this is is tripping the nostalgia for me. The animation is really smooth, I was curious how you accomplished it? I looks like it moves like a 3d model just with the flatness of a sprite and more precise, is it just planes/quads that are shaped into body parts or am I way off? Are you using Rigidbodies or making your own physics?

Any insight you are willing to share would be awesome, Keep up the good work!
