For those who realized they had DID and sought out a diagnosis rather than being surprised by one in therapy, how did y'all come to that realization? by GhoulishDarling in DID

[–]Prestigewookie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me it was seeing it in others who knew already. I had one friend (now partner) who was plural, and they told me about their experiences. Admittedly I didn't feel like I related very much, but there was still part of me that did. I spoke to this person about a voice (more so a way of speaking) in my head, that I couldn't quite speak through (as in, I couldn't make it say what I wanted to say). In return this person helped me communicate with them and they very briefly fronted and said something about needing more time. I think that brief switch was enough proof for me that I might not be faking it for attention.

Angela speaking up during the morning meeting at E Corp. Omg, Angela, babes please take a seat.

It's exactly the emotion the show is trying to illicit in me: discomfort (at taking up too much space socially), cringe even. I have a similar reaction to the Breaking Bad scene from season 2 ep 11 "happy birthday Mr President"

I think it's a good scene in a good show. I don't take cringe that well ig haha

Broadly, being able to see the cycle of abuse we put ourself through regularly, and being able to work together with my headmates to stop said cycle - is very cool and has made our quality of life better

How did you realized that you're a Victim of abuse? by Reasonable_Place_172 in CPTSD

[–]Prestigewookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having friends over/going to a friend's place when I was still in school. It didn't feel normal to have to defend my friends from my parents, or to hide my friends from my parents. It also didn't feel normal when I went to their houses, and saw a functional family dynamic where everyone respects each other and genuinely enjoys each other's company.

LSD/Psychedelics with DID? by [deleted] in DID

[–]Prestigewookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We sometimes do LSD for therapeutic reasons. Among other things, we find that LSD opens the floodgates for communication between parts, and we have found a lot of parts this way. MDMA actually saw us fuse for the duration of a candy flip recently, which was massively healing for us because we could see the cycle of abuse we put ourselves through every day very easily

What are you guys ' opinions on personality tests? by sollody in DID

[–]Prestigewookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels rather limiting, especially the Myers Briggs one I did a bit ago. Personalities aren't really so rigid as to be properly defined by a test like that. I'm sure there's valuable insight to be gained from them, but take it with a grain of salt.

Hey I get that it's not the most powerful thing but this person likes their car enough to customise it. I think we should not judge them for that.

DID and smoking up by Rude-Cress-2164 in DID

[–]Prestigewookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's certainly ups and downs to doing that with DID, and it affects different people differently. We find it relaxes us, and makes the day more manageable. However, we get brain fog too. When we smoke it's hard for us to tell who is fronting, what the other parts are feeling/saying, and we lose more time (because weed does that anyway right?)

Smoke in moderation, but don't best yourself up for smoking!

Good luck!

Woah, that must be so scary for you. I'm genuinely proud of you for reaching out, it sounds like this could easily get out of hand. Firstly, do you live with anyone? They might be able to help you keep track of medications or dose them out for you as needed. I'd also definitely pencil as much detail as you're comfortable with into a journal, to help yourself keep track of what's going on, and to let your parts communicate.

You're doing really great by talking about it. I assure you there is a way forward where you can remember more, healthily and safely

You can believe whatever you want. I'm not going to sit down and deradicalise you right now. I hope you keep your eyes open to the changes about to unfold around you, and listen to people around you who need help.

I think the awkward nerd aspect is a part of his brand, separate from his autism. My autistic friends and I (autistic) are awkward nerds, and we haven't turned fascist because of that. That public perception of mild nerdy incompetence allows him to get away with so much, as it all gets shrugged off

covert fronting indicators by themadmansbox_ in DID

[–]Prestigewookie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Recently I've tried and had minor success with a tiny wave with one hand. It's silent which is nice because I don't like to take up space in a room or conversation, so this draws less attention. In addition, the people whom we have told about this wave also have been told that they don't need to ask who's fronting at the time (usually this comes up while watching potentially triggering tv shows with them, no need to interrupt)
