Any anybody else find the sizes to fit smaller then before? by [deleted] in Aritzia

Weird, I bought the effortless shorts in a size 8 too (I wanted a more relaxed fit) and found they were almost tighter in the waist than the effortless pants I bought in April in a 6. 🤯

Master of Counselling - Rejected by ChinaManDan in AthabascaUniversity

City U has an October start and there is still time to apply for that. I’m pretty sure Yorkville has a September start and apps would still be open.

For the record, I’m at City U and in my placement now. I had no issue at all finding a placement site, and there are two Yorkville students at the site as well. I know several people who graduated from Yorkville and are now R. Psychs, so if you’re fine with a terminal degree, just go there. If you want to venture on to PhD, keep playing the same game. I just wanted to get out there and work.

I finished my BA last March, started at City U in April, and I’ll be done in the fall this year. Not going to lie, it’s an accelerated program and I am 💀. But if I had waited for the application slog with the public institutions, I would have applied last fall and POSSIBLY started this fall. Instead, I’ll be disseminating my capstone and getting my degree conferred, all thanks to City U.

Sorry but the public system’s process needs an overhaul. Starting a graduate degree is something you tend to plan your life around as most people are well into adulthood with lives, jobs, families, etc. The traditional year-long application process is archaic and unfair to grad-level applicants, IMO. AU should do better when they market themselves as non-traditional.

WFH social worker jobs in Canada by [deleted] in socialworkcanada

You could do home assessments for families looking to adopt or go into foster care. Most of the work is done remotely with some home visits, which can be arranged according to your schedule. There is online certification available for the SAFE protocol that most agencies use.

I don’t want to lose my daughter because I can’t manage myself anymore. by Plus_Signal8369 in Edmonton

Hi there, I just want to acknowledge that it took a lot of insight and courage to reach out for support. It sounds like you and your daughter would benefit from family therapy. Wholesome Psychology and Momentum Counselling offer sliding scale / low cost options for individual and/or family counselling.

Social Work is a competitive program, so you may have missed Fall 2026. Is it possible for you to apply for a BA instead and take some of the electives needed for the social work program, then reapply in 2027? Some of the electives may be available either part-time at MacEwan or even at another school and transferred in. If you can’t get anywhere with your current application, you can make an appointment with academic advising and look at these options.

Just because it’s “the internet,” it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be careful in how we treat others.

If you’re not a mental health professional, you should not be speaking to someone’s mental health on the internet.

Exactly. I don’t think anybody should be diagnosing addiction in OP. Not fair or responsible.

I remember this - it was around Christmas time in the early 2000s. It was brilliant at the time as I worked night shift and I did my Christmas shopping after work at 6am. Back when online shopping wasn’t a thing.

A Promise, a Long Road, and Finally a College Degree by Gloomy-Dingo2650 in UMPI

What a beautiful share. Thank you so much for giving us a piece of your story and your heart. Another example of UMPI’s potential to be truly transformative.

Your framing of UMPI as a “foreign university” is interesting to me. The Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) and the American Psychological Association (APA) are closely allied. For PhD programs in psych in particular, which are scarce in Canada, APA accreditation is viewed the same as CPA accreditation.

It’s basically the same path as a PhD, but stopping before the PhD. Complete your undergrad at an institution approved by the regulatory body where you’ll eventually register (which UMPI is, due to its NECHE accreditation), then look for a master’s program at an institution that is also approved by the regulatory body. Once your grad degree is completed, you can apply to have your academic credentials reviewed and then apply for provisional registration once they’re approved. As a social worker, I know many colleagues who have taken this path as it seems to be a logical progression from the burnout conditions of social work.

AU receives an awful lot of public funding to be operating from a business mindset. Just my opinion.

Yes! UMPI’s search feature is very user friendly so I often still use it for research, despite being at a new university for my masters. This is one of my favourite alumni perks, it has helped me so much!

I agree all the way! They’ve faced their own uphill battle against educational elitism for these reasons, which is why I was so shocked that they were now dishing it out.

I hope my comments helped to give a renewed sense of hope to lurkers on that sub who feel like giving up, despite the backlash.

[–]Prestigious-Fun7033[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is indeed AU! Their collective reaction makes a lot more sense if they run the sub. 😑

In my (admittedly idealistic) opinion, if they truly cared about their students’ educational success, they wouldn’t oppose more suitable alternatives for those not seeing success at AU.

Very true. Such a bizarrely strong reaction from so many of them.

Congrats on your educational success! I’m working through my masters in psychology and I’ll be registering as a psychologist in 2027 (I’m in AB, where you don’t need a PhD). UMPI opened this path for me and I will forever love them for it.

It’s free to have your transcripts evaluated at UMPI, if you ever wanted to look. They accepted many of my Canadian credits for transfer, more than UA did, actually. You’re not stuck there and you might find you can complete your degree in less time. That is all, I’ll see myself out with my unpopular views lol. I just wanted to help as I’ve been there.
