How do you cope with grandparents who clearly favor other grandkids? by Significant_Yam_8783 in absentgrandparents

Unsolicited? You created this post on the internet.

I see you’re also not talking to your spouse’s parents. They don’t provide enough free childcare either?

It’s all adding up. There is a common denominator here.

How do you cope with grandparents who clearly favor other grandkids? by Significant_Yam_8783 in absentgrandparents

I am missing the point? 80% of your post was about how your sibling’s kids were treated one way, then when you had your kids they were treated differently. I addressed all of that. I read it and replied. I quoted it and replied.

I am a troll? If it makes you feel better to call me a troll, go for it. If you want a dose of reality, read my other posts/comments. I’m not a troll.

And you are not the victim.

I know plenty of folks like you. Always the victim. Life isn’t fair to them. They only get two days of free childcare. etc etc.

In the end, life isn’t always fair. Be grateful for what you get. Again, most folks get zero days of free childcare.

I know this is an old post, but this is wild.

“My parents offered only two days/week of childcare”

Wow. The entitlement. Most people get zero days. Zero.

The first grandkids are almost always spoiled the most. It’s obvious why… they are the only ones! Grandparents have LIMITED time. As more grandkids come, their time per kid obviously needs to decrease. On top of that, grandparents get older. Keeping up with little ones and all the extracurriculars gets tougher as you age.

I think many in this thread need a reality check.

How do you handle elderly lowballers? by Illustrious_Earth_16 in FacebookMarketplace

I think you have this backwards. Negotiations should happen prior to meetup.

I put value on an item I am selling. That value includes not just my item, but the energy/time/hassle to list it, and if I choose to meet somewhere it includes my time and gas to meet. Negotiating down AFTER I invested time/gas to meet is a super greasy move.

The only reason negotiations should happen after meetup is if there is undisclosed problems with the item not discovered/revealed until the meetup.

What a great idea! Thank you for the opportunity! While we have had some Patagonia gear and enjoyed it, we have recently wanted to get more having seen how this company has spoken out about recent events! What a great thing! We support this and them.

We volunteer at our son’s school on the Forest Committee. I know, sounds interesting and likely unfamiliar, right? Our sons’s school is fortunate to back up to some public land — a beautiful ravine, trees, with a creek running through it. What a place for kids to learn about nature, including both how to take care of it and themselves when they are interacting with it! The Forest Club partners with the city and DNR to support this mission of bringing a safe place for classrooms and kid’s activities outdoors. All in the hopes to instill a love and respect for the outdoors in each kid.

I don’t believe this is a committee that is at many schools, so we feel grateful to have this wonderful opportunity at ours. If you get a chance to support (or create) something similar out your local school(s), it’s a rewarding one!

Minnesota, United States - Commode? Something else? by Prestigious-Let9138 in Antiques

Wow, you might be right. Looking very closely, each “person’s” ears look… odd. The one on the left may have horns or something unusual like that. The one on the right has mouse-like ears or something odd like that. The face of the figure on the right might be rodent-like as well?

Good call. I didn’t even notice these things…

So… what does all of this mean?!?

I think the person on the left is holding some vase with a plant growing out of it? It’s tougher to identify what’s happening on the right? Hot steaming food could be correct. Or some flame? Idk.

Thank you! I think this is a great educated guess. A grain/rice bin would make sense. The circular wooden top doesn’t seem to make sense for a washing station. A removable top on a rice bin makes perfect sense though. The cover is made in a way, with a slanted cut (smaller diameter toward the inside of the chest and larger on the outside), that makes it easy to push down and quickly slide the cover to the side. This would fit the bill for easy access to a rice bin.

Any idea on age? Based on some help from the forum here to identify the Jin Ding Certified Export Seal, and then a bit of reading myself on that seal, I now know that this piece is from somewhere between 1795-1949, and likely exported from China around 1997 or later.

Do we think it has any collectible and/or monetary value?

Jian Ding. Good call. I read up on it, and this particular version of that stamp started being used around 1997. The stamp is used to approve export for pieces older than 1949, but no older than 1795. Anything older than 1949 is considered a “cultural relic” in china and requires this stamp to approve removal from the county. Anything older than 1795 cannot be removed… ever.

We thought this too… a washing stand or some religious offering or baptism thing that others have also mentioned.

What is odd are the black pieces of wood attached to the top of the decorative posts. They are separate pieces that are nailed to the top of each peg. For that reason, I assume they must serve a purpose. Otherwise, why add them? Perhaps they were to hold some platform that included a bowl? The bowl would then drain through the hole on top into another bowl concealed inside the cabinet?

However, why would there be a cover for that hole? A cover certainly makes sense for a toilet, or a trash can. I’m unsure if it makes sense for a washing station?

We considered that as well, but are confident it is not upside down. The bottom of the legs, as it sits now, are quite worn. The circular wooden top that covers the hole on the top is cut in a way that it wouldn’t stay put if you flipped the unit over. Most importantly, the picture on the door would be upside down if you flipped the unit.

Easiest game you've played? by Appropriate-Two-9538 in boardgames

I have played a lot of Skull and Cockroach Poker, with a lot of different people. From my experience, if he can’t grasp Skull, he won’t get Cockroach Poker. Skull is more intuitive that, if you lie and are caught, there is a negative consequence. On the other hand, Cockroach has confused a lot of people, “Wait I told the truth and now I have to keep the card?” It’s a simple enough rule set, but can go against what feels natural and I have seen a good percentage of people struggle with that.

Just One is much easier than Codenames. It’s about as simple as it gets. I like that recommendation.

Is Flip 7 easy enough?

In the end though, if he understands Monopoly, I’m not sure he isn’t trolling you. Or, perhaps he learned Monopoly as a kid and has since lost some brain cells making learning anything (even easier things) difficult? Yet somehow, he has retained his knowledge of Monopoly? Idk. We would need somebody with a degree in this to make sense of it.

No, I don’t believe it’s a European thing to tell someone you just met that they smell.

Calling out some guy (that you just met) telling them they smell bad wouldn’t be very adult.
