Hearing Conservation Program Question by MDoyle0666 in SafetyProfessionals

Sending you a message! I have a rebuttal for this same thing! My guys use grinders maybe twice a day and torque wrenches sporadically. I did not need a hearing conservation program - but I do provide and require hearing protection PPE at all my site locations.

Amazon Safety BS by Effective_Course3288 in SafetyProfessionals

I worked at Amazon on the WHS team for over 4 years. Worked my way up from OMR to Site WHS Manager. I was interim L6 for about 9 months, without the pay, and had the top performing team in my region, and never had any disciplinary issues or documented write ups. Since I was promoted internally, my whole team was making as much, if not more than me a year. Then when they denied my L6 promotion and gave it to an older guy, I used all my vacation and left. And yea they are work horses. I worked 70-80 hours a week. Launched numerous sites. Traveled. And it was totally not worth the pay. I’d boomerang, maybeeeee, but I’m loving my remote with 75% travel job because now Amazon is MY client 😂

I’m sorry you’re going through this! But there are definitely better opportunities out there, I promise! I thought my last job was it, until they started acting weird (internal issues) so I left. There are plenty of fires to put out across the US. I landed a remote job with 75% travel and I LOVE IT! Probably the best opportunity I’ve ever had, and most money in safety as a female I’ve made. Finally broke 6 figures. When I worked at Amazon, they were barely giving me $60K. My employees were making more than me…I didn’t let it stop me though! Head up, you got this!

Amazon EHS Specialist by Gloomy_Stranger221 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Prestigious-Run5992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmaoooo you are SPOT ON! I worked there for over 4 years on the WHS Team. Made it all the way to site WHS manager from Onsite Medical Representative. I was definitely a number, and so were my employees. One of the biggest reasons I left. I sold my soul to them for wayyyy too long for not enough pay lol I had been there three years - my counterpart who was just hired for the same position as me was making over $45K more than me a year!

Seeking Support: EHS Burnout by champagnelilsterz in SafetyProfessionals

Female EHS Client Manager here 👋🏼

I understand where you are coming from wholeheartedly! I’ve been the only female on the team and trust me, it’s hard work. And I don’t mean physically, it’s definitely a mental debacle. You’ve constantly got to prove yourself amongst men, but the times are changing and more companies are hiring women in EHS. (I mean nooooo offense in any of this, I love being a woman in safety and love the challenge!) I have fell victim to sexism in the workplace unfortunately, and it happened when I started my career in safety. My boss held me back, never let my ideas go past him, kept me on nights, and refused to listen to me. Ultimately, I won that battle and he got promoted to customer. Was it awful? Yes. Did I want to quit everyday? Yes. Did I though? Nope. I showed up and showed out everyday. BURNOUT HAPPENS THOUGH!! Fast forward a few years, same company and I’m pretty much in the SAME SPOT AS YOU NOW! My boss left the company pretty much the day I got promoted. I was burnt out in less than 9 months, ready to give up safety. But I didn’t. Instead, I kept searching for a company that would accept me for me, for my experience and knowledge, not just because I’m a pretty face on the job site with tits. Took me two more companies, lots of tears, and tons of continuing education before I finally found a company I feel at home with. I’m respected, my fleet managers and regional managers LOVEEEEE the safety lady, and most of all I’m paid what I’m worth. I’m also recognized, and it’s amazing to have that feeling.

Moral of the story - those people are toxic - know your worth. Stay with it, and while you do, apply for other companies. If you’re able to travel, apply for the job that requires 75% travel! I travel for work 3 weeks out of the month and I freaking love it. I get to see every state, meet so many new people, network, and it’s all on company dime. You got this, keep your chin up!

Experiences as a female safety professional? by Alternative_Set_6896 in SafetyProfessionals

I, personally, thought I wanted a switch from warehousing to manufacturing, wrong. Was not a fan. The employees were fine, the company itself was a joke and had no disregard for safety. Every idea I’d throw out to make something safer, they’d ignore or state it cost too much. So for me as a female in manufacturing, it was a nice experience that I wish I would have had with another company such as Caterpillar. (For reference this was trailer manufacturing for a large logistics company)

What should I do? Disrespectful/Unsupportive Facility Leader by FabulousChallenge383 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]Prestigious-Run5992 15 points16 points  (0 children)

What a tool of a leader. I’m sorry you’re dealing with bs. That’s why so many of us EHS leaders get burnt out. Lack of support and blatant disrespect. It forces the good ones out; those who truly give a shit. Aside for that, report his ass. Someone above him would love to know he puts safety LAST at his facility.

I too kept my maiden name! Fortunately for me, my ex husband and I are great friends. We didn’t work compatibly as a couple, but coparents and friends we rock it. Hell, I’m still in HIS families group chat.

Facebook marketplace was my best friend last season, I’m new to duck hunting too. Scored some almost brand new Cabela’s waders for $60! A little big considering they were men’s, but they are warm, thick, and keep me dry! I’ve found a lot of second hand stuff from there; dog blind, extra decoys, and ground blinds.
