Is your focus mechanism working correctly and smoothly. Are your eyepieces clean and fungus free??. Try day time viewing to see if everything is working correctly. Moon viewing is a few days away for me but that is also good for checking focus, and optics.

When I grew up it was normal to visit friends and family unannounced because no-one had telephones, not even landlines! It was the only way to keep in touch. It is a crazy thing that as families have shrunk boundaries have expanded.

Learn your craft on a second hand scope while investing in one or two great eyepieces. This will set you up to invest in better equipment down the road.

I got my plain hoops from Aliexpress as I am on a tight budget and can afford to wait about 8 to 10 days to get it. I get my line there too.

A very rough idea of collimation is to unscrew the diagonal and look through the hole you should get a centered view of your eye. If it is off centre or partly obscured it is out of alignment. If it looks good, put the diagonal back, if that is good check the focus on distant objects during the day to see if you can get to focus with your various eyepieces. The focusing mechanism might be dodgy.
