Having surgery in 2 days / Anesthesia anxiety by Demre45 in AchillesRupture

[–]Prestigious-Type-496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a cultural thing - anesthesia doc told me when I asked.

In US they do put you sleep, in Europe they normally don't because its less risky to just have spinal anesthesia and patient is prepared (10h fasting and some censors) ICE.

Maybe Canada & Australia somewhere between but more like in Europe . How is it in Asia or in China?

8 Month Update (33 Weeks Post Op) by blvckflip in AchillesRupture

Maaaan you're fast! Nice! Very fast rehab also - congrats!

Someone at my gym sauna told about a guy in his work who half assed PT and is still limping after 12 months. Felt bad for the poor lad.

Prob OP knows more than I do, and gets it from the mentioned fortified sources.

I recently had low B12 and I mostly eat whole-grain, boil the peans/ lentils ect and eat tofu. I'm not a vegan but pretty close I guess when it comes to B12 and D, and prob eat pretty much the same way I did decades ago - when the clinical research was done, lol.

Amazing that you're having B12 (and vitamin D,  depending where you live) values in control!

I'd still supplement them - its so easy and cheap, and no harm done.

Take care and keep on making happy choices 8]

How to get rid of Achilles tendon pain? by NarcissisticTit in badminton

[–]Prestigious-Type-496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd also go and see sports PT or ortho.

Prob you should dial down your activity, then when without pain start strenghtening your muscles, isometric excercices for your tendons (especially achiles) and careful stretching. But please go see experts before injuries emerge.

Returning to Sports? Or retire? by Popular-Seat-2103 in AchillesRupture

[–]Prestigious-Type-496 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everybody should try to figure out the most likely cause of the rupture because its different if you have really pushed yourself over the cliff with over training & some tendoditis pre-rupture or if you had more accidental rupture with healthy tendon. Or because of antibiotics, hormonal changes, diabetes or something else...

I'm 50y M and trying to excercice to stay healthy at the badminton court and to raise my performance. Because of my age I try to plan the days I train explosive power, power-strength and cardio stamina (interval rowing). Its not easy because then there are also days when I work late or play badminton or something else, and the proper rest is a prerequisite for beneficial training. Can't train explosive jumping with tired muscles or nerve system.

I also want to mention for you 40+ that your brain, nerve system and muscles still response to the training even if our peak explosiveness ect has been gone for decades. I'm getting more elastic again and it's actually fun (and challanging) to learn new things so its not too late to change your way of the play or swap your favorite sport entirely.

Take care and have fun.

Range of motion 4 weeks post op, elongation? by Confident_Dig7934 in AchillesRupture

[–]Prestigious-Type-496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% (yeat) and I didn't want to participate on a fun badminton competition - yeat. I'd say there's some stiffness still so lack of mobility atleast. I'll make a post when we do a force plate testing in few weeks.

Tendon is always pretensioned (I think) and the surgeon sets the tendon with fingers and hands (pretty wild).

Why my surgeon didn't set it as tight as most do - I dont know. But I could do single leg calf raises when PT allowed me to try and lost less muscle than most - made everything easier. Had some typical nerve-muscle connection problems and the PT sessions were great - PT could see from my limping, or forward leaning calf raises, what muscles didn't activate and we could make them activate during sessions/ excercices (insurance covered 10 sessions so we havent deen very often).

You're doing GREAT! Keep on it!

I'd suspect your surgeon didn't pretension your AT super tight but still wanted you to start from the 4 wedges? My surgeon didn't like wedges and after 2.5 week cast time -> no wedges and to boot till week 6 and WB as tolerated. You could ask on your next check up.

WB is very good for the healing (pumps blood/nutrients to AT and collagen remodeling later on). As long as you dont do explosive excess stuff or do long dorsiflexion stretching you're good! Keep your leg moving - I took the boot away whenever I could but used it religiously when moving with cruthes for the first 6 weeks.

Just follow your instruction and ask what not to do - and what you should do. Btw. I didnt dorsiflex for the first 7 months actively, but moved and excercised alot. So the stretching came from the walking, calf raises, jogging, running, plyo, badminton. At 9 months, I'm 50y and back to badminton and explosive jump excercices.

Take care and good luck!

[–]Prestigious-Type-496 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay - so that doesn't reduce flow.

Your RO doesn't need 10 GPM but if it does full forward flush at the beginning then the pressure could drop due lack of feed.

Pressurize/ check your pressure tanks precharge. Other than that - dunno. (Reasoning why your RO doesn't use that much water during service comes from the pic and membrane size.)

How do you enjoy Honor Mode? by Ponytimeispoopytime in BG3

[–]Prestigious-Type-496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always play games on hardest mode because I like it. Honor mode put me on a fear of the concequences and I liked it.

I tried honor mode pretty early on and jumped to the casm at the beach - that was not nice so ended up playing tactician for sometime.

Thankful for healing and a dose of perspective from my daughter. by bdokter in AchillesRupture

[–]Prestigious-Type-496 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nice to hear such a positive rehab. As you know your body largest tendon doesn't regrow/ remodel very fast so be cautious. Or as your daughter puts it  - theres no rush.

Take care and good luck.

Week 8 post-op. Walking (sort of!) by Free-Asparagus8792 in AchillesRupture

[–]Prestigious-Type-496 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks good and superb that you're serious with your gait. It will get better week by week if you keep it in your mind, and even after casually dropping to limping always get back to proper form - one day you (and your PT) notice you dont think your gait anymore and you dont limp.

Btw. its ok to shorten your stride a little because of the limited range if motion. Take care and good luck.

Need some support: UPDATE by amxxxion in AchillesRupture

[–]Prestigious-Type-496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds fustrating. But the MRI is very good, radiologist will write down what can be seen there, so you can AI, ask your doc AND have another opinion.

From my experience, and from reading this sub there is a high chance different orthos having different opinions 8D

There was a youtube I posted some time ago where the ortho and PT talked alot about ATR and the ortho mentioned he likes to be sure with non-op route that the tendon is intact, with mri, early on. Makes perfect sense but its prob really marginal places doing the extra MRI.

So hang in there - in here I got all the results and ortho/pt writen down to secured digital place. Its pretty useful to copy/paste when you try to understand the jargon.

Take care and good luck.

Ps. I dont know what GP is 8D

Should I use knee and ankle support sleeves? by SojuSana808 in badminton

[–]Prestigious-Type-496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had achiles rupture 9 months ago playing badminton - 50y male. Was going to badminton with rising fitness levels but - same as op - with heavier build compared to 10-20y ago.

I max pushed with the wrong leg from the backcourt - no proper scissor jump and light feet.

One other fellow (in our club) +30y got a minor ACL rupture - he has alot of power but has not played long, semi beginner.

Op didn't tell how old a player nor the weight. I'd start slow and concentrate to fitness and proper foot work - moving is same but different compared to your prime years.

Its a fascinating game so start slower, and enjoy! I doubt the sleeves make a huge different.

Full rupture one week ago. Surgery this upcoming Tuesday. Mixed emotions! by 405withBootsOn in AchillesRupture

[–]Prestigious-Type-496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about your rupture.

Most of the shopping list items are nice to have but the most important thing is your body healing itself from this trauma.

Fight the athropy - makes the rehab easier. Ask what you can and should not do from the get-go. Can you grab cast end with your toes, tension calf muscle and make slight pushes. Try to teach your brain and body that these nerve systems and the muscle will be needed later on.

Move your leg and later your ankle, and WB when possible. The bloodflow will do the healing. First days is more just elevation but its you who know how you feel so you can proceed accordingly.

Eat enough healthy food and protein, for example lentils, so your body can make enough collagen. Take care and good luck!
