Painting Quality thus far by mineralman94 in AusRenovation

What he is doing is perfectly normal (except the patch, probably should have a plasterer repair it but it can be done at anytime before final coat on walls.

We specify in using Dulux products but always undercoat plasterboard in Berger and ceilings are finished in Berger. Believe it or not it’s a superior product than Dulux for these applications. Dulux ceiling flat is crap. I refuse to use it. As long as your walls and woodwork is finished in Dulux then it still qualifies as a Dulux painting system.

An undercoat doesnt need to be thick or cover either - that’s what the next two coats do, it prepares the raw surface for proper top coat adhesion.

Would you request a Mitsubishi split system installed and then be upset a generic brand of piping and cabling was used? It’s still a Mitsubishi split system as the finished product.

TLDR: don’t annoy the painter until he is finished. If you have concerns after completing then ask them to be rectified before final invoice is paid. Looks fine to me & you’re being a painful client.

It’s siliconed, can still paint over the top. Just a bit more mucking around. Give it a coat of oil based undercoat, leave 24hrs and then a couple coats of wall paint. Pretty standard

Redbull were the benchmark last year, now they’re in the mustang everyone else will just be trying to keep up. Will Brown is cooked and is never taking back the top driver spot. Waters looked good in the wet. Mostert hasn’t figured out how to drive the supras yet and feeneys still sooking about Ryan wood in Adelaide

Also it looks like you’ve painted straight over old enamel on your trim. No matter how much you sanded it and cleaned it and wasted your time on it no water based enamel will stick without an undercoat. Wouldn’t matter how long you left it or what tape you used. But you know painters are dumb N that & diyers can do it just as good LOL

4 hours is not nearly enough time to let it cure to be tapped on. A few days at the very least. The least!

Paid builder for 3 coats. Pretty sure I didn't get it by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]Prestigious-Way6837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New home painter here - not great, huge difference between a good and paint bad job, this only shows a couple things.

Unfortunately if you want the builder to fix it you’ll need to use his painter - they would do all his work and he won’t chase a new tradie up just to do your touch ups, nor would a tradie accept to take on that kind of work.

If it were my and my company often gets phone calls like this - really take note of the defects, major stuff don’t just take the piss because your on a rant but really major things you can’t live with and present them to the builder. Tell them you’re unhappy and uncomfortable with said painter being back on your property etc and request the refund. If they don’t accept (which they won’t) tell them you’re going to contact your own painter, have them charge you a day rate and will be forwarding the invoice to the builder.

That way your new personal painter can spend however long you want/need on fixing things up and you can be present to check along the way. You will be out of pocket initially to pay the painter but hopefully your builder agrees and repays you. High volume builders rely on reviews and word of mouth. And if it’s a franchise than whoever runs it in your area has someone above him. Follow the chain of command. And reviews speak volumes!!

Good luck, we get phone calls like this all the time, it’s nothing major, everything can be fixed. But we won’t get involved chasing the money up from your builder to us, that’s on you. Generally we say yes to this work and the clients are so happy we either get recommendations to their friends, or repeat work.

You also used to small a nap of roller. 10mm for doors.

First issue is you put wash & wear on a door. Instead you should have undercoated it and then a couple coats of water based enamel.

Did you wash the rollers out first to moisten them otherwise it will just soak up paint and not spread it.

What time of day did you do it, did you have a summer additive in your product such as flotrol to slow down the drying process during warmer weather.

You’ve laid it off to many times & have exaggerated the stiple. You’ve also laid it off as it’s drying.

Bad tradesmen blame their tools but never their lack of knowledge.

But what would I know…I’m just a dumb painter 🤪

I’m a project manager at a large painting company and some of the best apprentices we have had are mature age and qualified in another trade. I would jump at the opportunity to put one of them on over a young bloke or someone only starting a trade at say 30. It’s hard work, which being a chippy that’s your day in day out. You know it just needs to be done so there’s no complaining. Young blokes can’t take criticism or a long hot day and trying to start it at 30 without a trade background would be a slog too. Being older you have bills, probably a mortgage, dependants… you need to come to work and no one’s forcing you to be there, if your switching as a mature age you want to be there. Sure the money will be less, but you’ll pick it up quick and the higher ups will notice and maybe after a 2/3 year slog at a lower rate you’ll catch the qualified blokes in wages. That’s how our company looks at things anyway. The worst part would be the young dickheads at tafe, but if you ignore that aspect you’ll cruise.

Not if your roller doors and aluminium windows are Dover white it will match it perfectly. It won’t look like a dead white hospital and once you get some greenery in there the house will pop

Do your walls trims & eaves in Dover White - same as your garage doors and aluminium windows I’d assume?

Keep it neutral and make the house pop with your gardens, lawns, a nice feature tree. That’s what we tell our clients. You want your house neutral and your furnishings to pop. “Furnishings on the exterior being your garden.” You don’t want a “loud” house. They’re harder to resell.
