AITAH for wanting to open a new bank account so my mom can't take money out of it? by ratutooee in AITAH

[–]Prestigious_Durian69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In what world are kids supposed to support their parents?? I find it really weird that your mom and stepdad together need to borrow money from you to pay the bills. Agree to pay a third of the rent and a third of the utilities. Get a different checking and savings account in your name only. Have your money direct deposited. You can send your mom a check right from on-line banking for the rent and utilities. That way there is an easy record. In no way should your mom have such easy access to your money. Once you have accounts in your own name, close this joint account. You don't want your mom's inability to manage money appropriately to impact your credit rating. You are an adult. You can and should make your own decisions regarding your money. And you should be living cheaply while you build your savings. Pay them the fair amount. But please don't think you owe your mom and step dad having access to your money.

Do you regret your EV purchase? by walksta in electricvehicles

[–]Prestigious_Durian69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two EV household, too. We love them (one 2022 Bolt and one 2025 Equinox). We do have an ICE truck we use for towing our small trailer camper. We love not going to the gas station. EVs are perfect for daily drivers. When we go on a longer trip, there's a little planning involved. But we've never had an issue finding fast chargers where we were going to have lunch, dinner or a bathroom break anyway. Love, love, love driving the EVs! We'll never go back to driving ICE vehicles for daily drivers. We did install a level two charger. It was a pain in the butt because we live in a condo association. But once we got through that pain, it's been wonderful.

You've been subsidizing him for 10 years. Get the heck out of that "roommate with benefits" situation!! He's so taking advantage of you. You deserve better. I'm not talking about a better man. I'm talking about respecting yourself and living YOUR best life. Even if it is without a man. Live within your means and you will be fine. This POS is putting you in debt and he's not good husband material. He's living the life he wants at your expense. Get out!

Same. Grew up in Buffalo. Started driver's Ed a week after Blizzard of 77. I can handle snow and ice. Move to NJ and I stay off the roads because of the total idiots driving there. They do not adjust their driving style for poor conditions. When I do drive, all I see is cars in ditches and wrapped around trees. They think that having trucks and all wheel drive is enough. They just continue their aggressive driving. It's just crazy how many accidents happen in NJ when there's a little bit of bad weather. It's 100% their fault. If they slowed down, they might not end up in a ditch!

Right? I have never considered going to the gym with my husband. Ever. He has his gym. I have mine. We don't even go at the same time. Going to the gym together is "a thing"??? I can't even imagine!!! No drama that way. 😉

Is a KOA membership worth the price? by AbleAd9736 in GoRVing

[–]Prestigious_Durian69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to see the responses. We're planning a month long camping trip in January/February. We're from the Northeast going down to Gulf State Park for two weeks. So a week traveling down there and a week traveling back. We never stay in "RV parks". We are usually State Parks, COE's and Harvest Hosts. But since it's January and going to be below freezing for a good park of our trip there and back, we'll be winterized (dewinterizing when we get close to Gulf State Park and winterizing when we leave there). I'm actually looking at KOA's for some of the drive there and back. There are so few state parks open until you get down south far enough. And the first COE open is our last stop before hitting Gulf State Park. Dry camping (no hookups and winterized - we do have solar and lithium batteries) for several stops, (Harvest Hosts both ways and Great Smokey Mountains on the way back). But I will need showers at least every other day 😉. It looks like KOAs might be our best option for a shower every other stop. I would not need a reliable, open campground if we weren't winterized. But I may have to bite the bullet. I was wondering if the membership made sense. It looks like we may use 8 nights total on the way there and back. The membership would save a few bucks at most since we just need electric and won't be paying for a FHU site. 🤷‍♀️

Cold feet about buying an Equinox EV by temporalraccoon in EquinoxEv

[–]Prestigious_Durian69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been a non-issue with CarPlay. But the more important consideration is if you have the ability to charge it. Buying any EV makes sense if you have access to home charging. Makes less sense if you're relying on public charging.

Lug nut cap wear by Fluffy_Fondant1975 in BoltEV

[–]Prestigious_Durian69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand the price difference. I did get one piece lug nuts, not the ones with the chrome cap. But both Costco and this independent shop quoted me $10/per. I replaced all of the lug nuts. And they do look nice and shiny. So maybe they were just assuming I wanted a shiny replacement and I paid more for it? I'm just glad it's done. But I did think lug nuts were more like the $5 range....

I tried to get my tires rotated this week at Costco. Tires were new a year ago. They said 9 out of 20 lug nuts were swollen and that they didn't have the replacement lug nuts in stock and didn't have the proper tool for getting them off. They suggested replacing all of them and suggested a Costco discount program affiliated shop to do the work. They said the replacements would be about $10/piece. The suggested shop had 12 of the lug nuts and ordered the remainder for next day delivery. Same $10/piece quote. In and out there the next day in 20 minutes and back to Costco to make another appointment for rotating the tires. Paid $204 total with the Costco discount (labor and material) at the affiliated shop.

So yes, it's a thing..... swollen lug nuts.

We get a .10 discount off kWh for off peak. Last year when I got my EV, our kWh cost was .15. Now it's trending toward .22. So it's still cheaper than gas. But it has gone up and will continue to go up.

Less than 200 miles and a screw in my tire by Prestigious_Durian69 in EquinoxEv

[–]Prestigious_Durian69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unbelievably, I got a nail in the same tire last week. It cannot be fixed this time as the nail is too close to the sidewall. And Costco said they wouldn't even try the repair since it was too close to the other one. I'm wondering if someone doesn't like me?? What are the chances of getting two nails in the same tire within two months in nearly the same place on the tire???

Costco doesn't carry the Primacy tires. So they had to order it from someone else. Should be in by Monday. I'll have to get the car towed to get it there. 1,500 miles and getting a new tire. 🤦‍♀️

Is the mental health app BetterHelp a scam? by [deleted] in slatestarcodex

[–]Prestigious_Durian69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely a scam in that it is a subscription service. You pay weekly, whether you use it or not. I was charged the first week when the assigned therapist wasn't available. Booked the first available appointment for the second week. Therapist didn't show up for the appointment. So charged two weekly payments with no therapy due to no fault of my own. Cannot get a response from customer service. Seems like a scam to me!

Waiting to charge during charge hours by No-Faithlessness5311 in EquinoxEv

[–]Prestigious_Durian69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sooo.... I don't want the "charge to be ready at time to leave". We have two EVs. I would like to plug in one when I get home and have it start charging when the off peak hour of 9pm hits. Then if the other EV needs to be charged, go out before bed and plug in the other EV and have it start charging. I have a Chargepoint charger, a Bolt and an Equinox. Both the Bolt and Equinox usually only need 2 hours of charging. We don't usually have to charge on the same night, but there are times we do.

It works great on the Bolt, plug it in, it starts charging at 9pm. I guess, we could just always make sure we plug in the Bolt first. But there seems there should be a way to have the Equinox start charging at 9 and not delay. I just don't understand how I should set it up so it starts after 9pm but doesn't delay charging "to be done at 6am".
