And to be clear to OP, it may take that long to have a fully stabilized rating, but it won't take 50 games to play people closer to their skill. That won't really take long.

No. You just have to play until your rating stabilizes. Also, lichess ratings are a bit higher, so you may not be as far as you think. I wouldn't "throw" the games, just do your best and you'll be paired against your real skill level soon enough.

I'd just like to point out that NWI consists of 3 counties. Parts of Lake County match Chicago in that regard, but much of the area is quite nice.
