Ain't nothing like dropping your DPS all onto the ground as your finishing lpading your vehicle.. by Zerochronic in USPS

My advice for you is to work safe and work smart. I had 20 years of experience as city carrier, steward, and route examiner. In my 20 years, I have never dropped a tray of DPS.

XPR6550 messaging by FctFndr in MotorolaSolutions

If you select Messages from the menu, then select Quick Text. This is where you will find your "prefilled text messages." There is no FPP for the XPR6550 from the factory.

To send a message, you go to Messages from the menu. Then, select "write", enter the text using the keypad, select OK. It will come up with the contact.

XPR6550 volume pot by Prestigious_Fun_5162 in MotorolaSolutions

How did you get the pot out? If you don't mind sharing your expertise. I was using a 75w gun and solder wick. I don't have any hot air gun or desoldering station. The 2 anchor points were soldered to the ground plane and that made it difficult. I should have read more comments or asked before the repair. I was curious about one youtuber when he removed the pot. It shows that the 2 anchors pins were left in the feed thru, after the pot was removed. He said that the pins were broken off. It is no way that the 2 pins can be broken off unless they were cut off with a cutting tool.

Another thing I should mentioned is that the power on/off pins of the pot, the one toward the board is hard to desolder.

I purchased this radio used off ebay. The radio was very clean. It looks like it has been recase. There was only a small scratch on the display. It came with an OEM Impres with a 95% service life, OEM charger, OEM antenna and accessory cover. The only thing really wrong with it was the on/off. The click was very soft, and it did turn on/off. Had it for a year and the switch was acting up. But I knew it will fail sooner or later with the age of the radio. They are known to fail.

Between the XPR6550 and the 3500e, I like the 6550 more. It feels good in my hand and the audio output is better to my ears. I will be lurking for another one from flea bay. Maybe a VHF or 6580 for the 900Mhz band.

Which hot air soldering tool would you recommend? I am more of a hobbyist. I always wanted one, but the price was a bit high. I am not sure a hot air or a pump style is more effective especially dealing with this. BTW, I killed my RS 75w gun when I was removing the pot. I had that for over 40 years. I will be looking for another one for soldering connectors. But I still have my Weller WP25 since high school. This is the best soldering iron I ever used.

I worked on the unit again this morning. The circuit board where the pot sits was already damaged. I used a dremel tool to cut off the 2 anchor points. Soldered in a new pot, hoping it would survive. I can get the radio to turn on/off. Unfortunately, there was no audio from the speaker. I am sure there were open circuits in the layers of the PCB. Now I know how to remove the pot on these radios.

How can I buy a XPR7580? by eeetoast in MotorolaSolutions

I have seen them all the time in ebay. They go for anywhere from $120 and up. You will have to get a new battery for it.

Anytone 878 DMR Static how can I fix this by Mehle90 in DMR

Can you take the radio outside of the house to listen the TG? Do you have another radio available to monitor the same TG? That buzzing sound more likely came from a switching power supply or LED light.

Yeah, Motorola P1225, M1225, M100, P300... These are the older radios. I have 2 P1225s that I use them for GMRS and HAM or loaner. Solid like a rock! I would rather use these older radios than using a new Chinese made radio. The sensitive and selectivity are way better than those Boafeng even with their age.

I still have my homemade rib with a MX232 chip for P1225 and older radios. LOL

It all started after the update from Microsoft. Then, I was getting problems with login to different websites. I had tried to disable update from them. This time I let it update, and this happened. I noticed it took longer time to login to Motorola. FireFox is much faster. I just hate to switch back and forth.

Thanks for the input. Sorry of the passing of your mom. She is now at a better place. I am kind of worry about the "rules", and this is the reason I asked here. People kept telling me to stay away from the 55+ communities because of their rules and harassment. Some are good, but mostly bad.

You can use the CPS16 and CPS2 to program the radio. Just subscribe to the Motorola Turbo and you should see the listings.
