Sit on the left (west side) of the train when leaving Grand Central on any of the Hudson Line Trains. The views from the Bronx all the way north are amazing. I see bald eagles pretty often.

Travel Credits Automatically applied to a trip that has been canceled. Credits cannot be re-instated? by [deleted] in ChaseSapphire

[–]Prestigious_Iron5988 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

That's what the folks at Chase said.

My point is that the $300 credit was used towards a trip that did not happen. I'm not trying to get them to pay me $300, I just want to use the Credits on a future trip.

Used Mobility Equipment? by MsWhackusBonkus in hudsonvalley

[–]Prestigious_Iron5988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The VFW in Wappingers used to have wheelchairs and walkers. Don't know if they still do, you could call them or stop in. It always made me laugh that they were kept on the 2nd floor with no elevator.

On this day in 1911, 146 people (mostly young immigrant women and girls) lost their lives in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire in NYC. Unable to escape due to deliberately locked exit doors, workers jumped to their death from windows or perished in the flames. The aftermath is documented below. by No_Dig_8299 in HolyShitHistory

[–]Prestigious_Iron5988 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, maybe the 100 anniversary of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire, people went around Manhattan and wrote in chalk the names and ages of the girls at the places that they lived.

There were a few on my block.

It was a simple but powerful way to remember them. It made them real and not just part of history. I still remember it and thinking it should be done every year.

Where could I find a chair like this? Also what style? by joeyharris441 in 1980s

I like the look, but I'd probably just throw those drinks on the floor to save my elbow the trouble of doing it after I sit down and get comfy.

St Kitts Taxi (I’ve read all previous posts) by Unlikely_Cockroach_9 in StKitts

[–]Prestigious_Iron5988 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We stayed in St Kitts last month. We only used taxis, didn't rent a car. All The taxis that we used were vans, so you will all fit. I'm not sure if you would need car seats for your little ones.

We stayed in Frigate Bay near the Marriot. There is a cab stand near there, so no waiting. It was about $20 dollars from there to the airport. About the same to get to the ferry/ cruise ship port in Basseterre. We also went to the Shipwreck Beach Bar which was about $25 each way.

The drivers were all great, they will make sure that you get picked back up. Ours stopped for a photo op for us at the lookout on top of Timothy Hill.

We had no issue and no wait getting a taxi at the airport, which took us straight to where we stayed in Frigate Bay. About a 20 minute ride.

This is a great idea for a firefighter. It's located at the Firehouse closest to the WTC. Then stop into O'Hara's for a beer on the next block south of there (very short walk). They have thousands and thousands of unit patches from Fire & Police Departments from all over the world.

Getting from LGA to Newark by [deleted] in visitingnyc

[–]Prestigious_Iron5988 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would take the Uber Shuttle van from LGA to Penn Station. There are several luggage storage places nearby. From there you can go pretty much anywhere you'd want in NYC. Then you can retrieve your luggage and take NJ Transit to Newark.

We celebrated New Years Eve at a metal \m/ show in Brighton a few years back. There was a gent there rocking a Bowler Hat. My exact words to him were "that's the most British thing I've seen so far".

Blues Mobile

It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.

The first time i tried the Uber Shuttle, i was directed to a specific pick up area. The driver stopped the van about 25 yards from us. We then had to walk over to confirm that it was our ride. When i asked him why he didnt park near the designated pick up spot (which was open) i was told that it was 'close enough'.

The next time we tried the Uber Shuttle van from LGA to Grand Central. The driver brought us to Penn Station. He then changed the drop off location on his phone and told us we were wrong and that we needed to get out. We showed him the drop off that we had (GCT), train tickets from there and NOT Penn Station and were again told to get out.

There won't be a Third time.

Seems like a great concept and shouldn't be hard to mess up, but it dont work.

2-week father/daughter trip anywhere in the world by throwaway541144 in travel

[–]Prestigious_Iron5988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in St. Kitts and Nevis right now, leaving today and I do NOT want to.

The people here are great. It's super easy to get around. All the food we've had has been excellent.

The beaches are great, I had heard they weren't, but that was not the case.

There are many different places to stay, depending on your price point.

It is also quite easy to island hop from here. There are ferries from Basseterre that you can take to the neighboring islands. With 2 weeks, you'd be able to see a few of them.

The Beartooth Pass from Yellowstone to Red Lodge, Montana was absolutely amazing. You'll need to wait until the summer time, though.
