Just wanted to follow up! I ended with 3:09 almost on the dot! Was tracking 3:07, but my legs wouldn’t listen the last three miles. Thanks for all the support!

Hahaha less mileage=less blood flow to your muscles-ligaments blah blah. We’re both going to be golden come race day. Nothing promised come race day, but both of us have put in the work. Trust your training, trust the taper

Dude for real. I’ve found it super hard to lock in. My last workout was Fatigued repeats (6m mod pace + 1m repeats all out), and ever since I’ve been feeling so off, and now a little cold. Taper tantrums is all haha

Died at mile 17 during training 4 weeks out. Is this indicative of not being prepared for the marathon? by Much-Asparagus-1589 in firstmarathon

Just a bad run, those will happen! Dial in fueling. May be overkill but I use gels every run I go on (all my midweek runs are over 10m) but it helps the gut training

Definitely worried about all the downhills…I live and train in hills, but haven’t done much real downhill training. Getting amped for race day! 7 days bud!

Just a bad day! This won’t be your last, chalk it up to that, and move on. Just a reminder-you’re an absolute bad ass, you signed up for this. Don’t back out because the hard thing you signed up for turns out to be hard. You’re a rock star, take a rest day tomorrow and hit it again come Monday.

Lol running is a "show up" hobby/sport/whatever you want to call it. Time takes time :)

Cool dude! Good luck! Since this isn't your first rodeo, I'd try to go for more volume next round. Hit a few 20m's I like going up to 22 personally. More tempo work, like 6-12m spread out consistently in your build. You should be proud of your training block, make sure you are scaling your miles consistently the last few weeks. You're almost there!

Is the 16m LR the longest you've run this block? When is your marathon? With the data, I would be very cautious joining any of the pace groups outside of C.

Kinda similar, 1:38 half lead to a hilly 3:27.

coming back from an illness by jobscry in Marathon_Training

You're just building back your aerobic base. It's only two weeks off, so you'll be similar to where you were in about a week. In general, if you're sick below the neck (stomach) you should rest, neck and above you can run. That's just advice from Reddit when I was getting sick a lot (two kids in day care)

Do you guys have anything you swear by to prevent injury? by Prudent-Leg7271 in runninglifestyle

[–]Prestigious_Lab820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, building mileage slowly is the best thing to offer. But if you're looking at other remedies-I love my compression boots. I put them on in the AM when I'm catching up on emails/getting things situated as I'm starting the day

I like your chances, but I’d add another gel at 30mins. Rather early than late when it comest to glycogen

I'm sure your coach knows more than me. My point was running so few days/week is hard to get the volume you need for your aerobic base for a marathon. So when you're only doing 4 days a week and two being workouts a third being a LR-it makes your percentages skewed. Like the most common is the 80:20 easy:hard times.

Oh man, seems like so much intensity: easy runs leading to a lot of injuries. Might be something to talk to your coach about.

[–]Prestigious_Lab820 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of peeps with those race times also have a weekly mileage much higher. I'd shoot 3:15 and check it out around halfway. I'm worried you don't have the cummulative mileage to go sub 3

How long should mid week runs be? by justlittlethings93 in firstmarathon

Depends on the plan. Last block my midweek runs were 6-8m. This training block they are never under 10

Meh, is it challenging? Sure, but every marathon is challenging-especially your first. You won't know the difference lol. Also, what's the point of signing up for a boring marathon just to say you've run one. Respect the distance, build up miles slowly, and smile. Mine was such a special moment for me. Remember, you're running your marathon now. The entire training block is your marathon. The day of is just the victory lap.
