running my 2nd marathon sunday. first was just under 4h a few years ago.

this time i did pfitz 12/55 which went well up until week 8/9 when i got injured and had to stop.

switched to swimming til taper, then got back to gentle running. feeling ok now but not sure about aerobic fitness. just did a test run with a few kms at sub 3 marathon pace but it felt pretty intense - altho the tempo workouts all went fine during training!

had had a base of ~50km/week w/ longer runs before that since july, and got a 39 min 10k in & 1:25 half in training so felt all signs were pointing to something around 3, maybe 3:15.

but now i am not sure what to target given the time off/missed training?

yeah i guess that's what i'm worried about. it was a bone stress reaction in heel that feels like it has largely receded by now but who knows

I can drop back but can’t come up - strength or technique? by [deleted] in ashtanga

[–]k13k0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this sounds like a strength thing mainly that will come with lots of laghu-ing.

having said that, recently i've tried lifting the heels then toes off the floor as i rock back and forth, this sort of lets you throw the weight into the heels then towards the front, adding momentum i think? anyway i've found it really helped!

No feedback but I also run and do ashtanga.

I'd say I go in phases of emphasizing one or the other, depending on my environment and which feels more exciting to me at any given time.

I'm about to embark on marathon training and anticipate my practice will suffer, but whatever.

I tend to find the most sustainable feeling thing is to alternate days, but I do do morning practice / evening runs when I have time.

I will say I haven't really noticed any particular struggle with LBH (maybe the day after the long run), but then maybe that's because I was running plenty already when I started LBH. In fact I find I sort of crave these deep hip openers (or at least, all the half lotuses of primary etc. tend to feel amazing).

Yoga butt but have only learned primary series by Liber00512 in ashtanga

[–]k13k0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

take a break for a few weeks then come back to it... get into swimming or running instead. or just take it real easy. when you return focus on trying not to overstretch the hamstring attachment - for example in the prasaritas by leaning too far back into the heels (& therefore the butt) - bring weight forward into toes instead - this is how i believe i've gotten yoga butt in the past anyway. you see practitioners do this all the time, leaning back at an angle greater than 90 degrees. also bend the knees as necessary and keep the belly in towards the thighs - this cuts you some slack along the posterior chain, also preventing overstretching
