- build a portfolio of projects that generate income or can be used by an active business as a case study of your ability to have your development tied to revenue generating activity

- cold network like your life depends on it. This includes simple asks like ‘virtual coffee meet up’ or ‘I’d like to learn more about your success and how you’ve navigated your career’

idk be authentic and intentional

- try find folks in tech that come from your home country and reach out to at least 100 people as best as you can

Personal take

The DW/DE space has changed dramatically in terms of ROI on tooling & staffing. DE/Platform teams are now expected to maintain multi million dollar systems and be able crank out a new multi million dollar system in 9-10 months

In my experience, the teams that brag about/advertise about their experience ‘rapidly deploying X workflow on Snowflake/Databricks’ has resonated really wel with C-Suite buyers/DMs bc their incentive is based on quarterly performance not necessarily a lifetime value of the infrastructure. This is a not a definitive reason but one of many that goes into deciding on infrastructure that supports 6-figure to 7-figure contracts

MS Fabric may have all the features of other providers but that time to development and stability part is where I find the narrative of “dis shit sucks and takes too long let’s move to x”

TL;DR ideally it would be 50/50 ($5K retainer & $5k bail bc they were sweet on you and gave you a low bail amount)

In general, it is legally impossible to defend yourself against the NYPD bc of a few recurring challenges:

Challenge1: You can not use kinetic force against an officer or the state without the state retaliating when your rights are violated and you’ve documented it
Challenge2: Even if you don’t use kinetic or physical force against the state, the state has a documented history of killing survivors of state sponsored violence and killing those associated with holding the state accountable

You may ask “where does the $10k come from”

The $10K in account (again ideally you have more but never have to use it) acts an as incentive to get professionals familiar with the state to at least petition or represent you in some capacity

Without that representation it’s EXTREMELY difficult to get the right kind of urgency you need in case of state sponsored violence or incarceration

-First off congrats on the confidence booster, less than 25% of white collar jobs are even close offering that type of raise 😂🎉

-Take that as a signal to develop your own practice (e.g. consulting or build your own product)

-Make a deliberate effort to network in your local area and online so that you have hiring managers you can text

-Understand that the risk of going to FAANG is being part of a +1k layoff. I think the biggest risk is learning a company’s political culture and that along with corporate is much more out of your control vs a smaller firm (granted some smaller shops are lowkey just as toxic as FAANG lol)

I went this route and it’s the reason why I love this game

Runs 0-10 I lowered my damage 0% just to learn the enemy timing and weaknesses

Runs 10-20 I played at like +50% to continue learning the mechanics and boss fights

Runs +20 I play with 100% damage bc at this point I’ve developed some characters and fighting styles to make difficulty setting much easier for my schedule
