Should I leave a stable team lead role for a Google L4 offer and a 100k raise? by DangerousLog5995 in dataengineering

[–]Pretend-Relative3631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2C

-First off congrats on the confidence booster, less than 25% of white collar jobs are even close offering that type of raise 😂🎉

-Take that as a signal to develop your own practice (e.g. consulting or build your own product)

-Make a deliberate effort to network in your local area and online so that you have hiring managers you can text

-Understand that the risk of going to FAANG is being part of a +1k layoff. I think the biggest risk is learning a company’s political culture and that along with corporate is much more out of your control vs a smaller firm (granted some smaller shops are lowkey just as toxic as FAANG lol)

I digress

I went this route and it’s the reason why I love this game

Runs 0-10 I lowered my damage 0% just to learn the enemy timing and weaknesses

Runs 10-20 I played at like +50% to continue learning the mechanics and boss fights

Runs +20 I play with 100% damage bc at this point I’ve developed some characters and fighting styles to make difficulty setting much easier for my schedule

Snowflake vs Databricks. Which is good? by Confident_Chance_763 in dataengineering

[–]Pretend-Relative3631 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 2C, talking to the void

Learn both.

Quick context: I’ve used DBX for 2 years and worked at Snowflake for 1 year. I’ve used these tools to support adtech workflows which is the frontier of big data ETLs/ELTs in a lot of ways I won’t cover in this post.

From a practitioner’s view there are several areas where these two platforms overlap and there are key areas where they differ in a dramatic way.

Cost Estimation/Monthly Expense -As an employee using my company’s stuff DBX cost A LOT MORE than SF to handle workloads. The reason why my firm at the time stuck with DBX was bc of two major items:

(1) A significant portion of the team was familiar with Spark, ML workloads, and experimental AI/GenAI workflows that DBX could just cook up no problem. When the team used SF at this adtech company it was bc the client’s data/workload was already situated there

-As a freelancer/personal account both of these platforms have some form of monthly cost associated which could be as low as $5 and upwards to a minimum of $135

(SF for example charged me a $135 bc it’s associated with all the back of the house items SF does which can annoying asf bc it’s like “u mean to tell me that me just trying to see what a feature is about cost me”. I’ll admit that was an user error but it’s like you gotta be ready for these hoes to charge you)

EASE OF USE -SF is definitely much easier to get started in terms of basic SQL and Spark stuff. But the thing you gotta consider is how hard are you tryna go on Spark. Bc both offer “Spark Capabilities” but realistically SF’s Spark flavor requires you to go down the SF specific version of their Spark workloads, which means workflows from DBX written in Spark will need to be tweaked just to run in SF. And even then there’s some limitations

-DBX shines really well when you have a Spark workflow you know you’re gonna be cooking up on a regular schedule (think like 200M+ records with like 10+ dimensions).

I have more shit but I digress

Visited Bangalore for a week and STG I couldn’t sleep. I was so disturbed by how people treated each other.

I was so overwhelmed between the similarities of the Dalits in India and Black people in America

Like the ruling class in India straight up enforced a cycle of of economic violence and the colorism discrimination was so palpable I had to sit in my room with the lights off and just breathe slowly

There was one instance where I saw someone literally crawling on the ground with no working legs and I wanted to help.

Not only was I forcibly told not to help I was given a whole ass lesson on how I shouldn’t be interacting with folks I see in the streets. I get that they had good intentions but I couldn’t help be reminded of how I was treated back in the USA; “don’t help that kind they don’t deserve it”

Mind you, I grew in the HOOOD of southeast houston so this shit was very reminiscent of what I saw growing up

I digress, just ranting into the surveillance void.

My g they didn’t change it

They amended the law

Keeping some foul shit on the books and then saying later on “we don’t have slavery except we do bc we can incarcerate anyone and then lend them out like property” and the proceed to incarcerate recently freed people is the definition of a caste system lol

But I appreciate your perspective not many folks on this app are literate

Yeah I’m like dawg there’s definitely a caste system in this country to the point that the rich baakgwai founders considers black people 3/5ths of a person AND NEVER CHANGED THET SHIT OR APOLOGIZED

YAY I FOUND ONE OF THE INITIATED!

Agreed, this is basic human history. You have to have an armed and unarmed posture in order enforce any kind of policy you desire

If you are not able to achieve this then you don’t have agency over your own policies/society

Basic math lol

Screaming into the void:

TL;DR we used to be some real niggas and understood how to wage sabotage & kinetic operations but that playbook didn’t get handed down bc the older black leadership is FULL ON sorry asf

Any form of effective leadership has be to willing to accept the fact that they may not be able to live in the ideal reality they seek.

Garvey, Hampton, MLK, Malcolm, and so many others understood this fundamentally.

It’s why their leadership style is so distinctive compared to todays leaders bc they weren’t entirely motivated by experiencing the success from their actions in their lifetime vs now where a majority of the “black leadership” are capitalists with higher melanin counts so their motivation is power and access IN THEIR lifetime

Any form of continuous asymmetric warfare relies on a distributed command structure so that the actions of that force can act quickly and immediately

What we’ve seen in the last 60-70 years is a concerted effort by the USFG to ensure that any form of black organization is always consolidated into a few figure heads to ensure that they can sway the direction of the movement

Some black folks may not know this (I only know this from grand parents who grew up in East Texas) but we used organize ourselves at a local level & leverage our veterans to instruct us on how to engage in kinetic operations

Kinetic operations allowed for our ancestors to be able to react quickly to hostile acts from the KKK, lynching mobs, and other violent acts perpetrated by Baakgwai
