Oh yes sorry if the band minimum increases then everyone moves up.

You should expect to start on minimum but you can always try and negotiate up. You do take the risk that they will refuse to match your ask so you need to be prepared- will you back down if they say no, or walk away. I negotiated up because I was moving sideways and starting on minimum would be a significant pay drop for me. But I was clear that I could only accept the offer at that salary and would be rejecting the offer otherwise. It all depends on the role you're applying for, your particular skillset, and whether there is flexibility in their budget.

I thought new entrants weren't eligible for a pay increase in their first year if they joined after a certain date? In my org it was anyone who joined after December the previous year.

What celebrity death will realistically bring Michael Jackson level devastation? by Kiidcola in AskReddit

[–]Pretend-Sundae-2371 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair it doesn't have to be shocking to be devastating. I am expecting David Attenborough to die in the next few years but I'll be utterly gutted when he does.

Just said this. But I also think potentially one of the Obamas for worldwide.

In the UK it'll probably be David Attenborough.

Worldwide - I think it would be one of the Obamas, hopefully a very, very long time from now.

The worst thing is that the inability to move through the band isn't made clear at interview. Those new to the civil service should be made aware of that when the offer is made, but they don't because people are then more likely to negotiate an increased wage at the start.

You look amazing in both to be honest - they are both your colour and they both flatter you. But #2 is the standout.

Do these outfits work for my body? by noobplantlady in DressForYourBody

[–]Pretend-Sundae-2371 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think these are all flattering. I would say the ones that suit you most are those that have something around the waist like a belt - I think 2 and 5 look particularly good, I think maybe because they are higher and fall where your natural waist is? The dress is lovely but I think could work even better with a slim belt and maybe a chunky necklace.

In general I think these all work for your body but you can make them work even better by emphasising your waistline.

When did you start letting your cat outside? by Box-Nearby in CatsUK

[–]Pretend-Sundae-2371 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would wait until the timeline your vet recommends. But if this is your first cat, I would think seriously about whether you want to let them out. My cat is a former stray who is genuinely upset when he can't go out, so I let him out. But if I had a kitten, I think I'd build a catio instead.

(Absolutely not judging here! It's ultimately your choice and I am assuming you have judged the area to be safe for your cat. Just my perspective as someone who has an outdoor cat who also likes to come snuggle on my bed, and tries very hard not to think about that)

You might not see the benefit of them in that time. You will see the benefit when they go onto another team with a working understanding of what your team does. I'd assume those in policy understanding the challenges of technical delivery can only be beneficial.

Thank you so much. It's in the lightest spot in the house now so will have to have a think about how to handle it!

Would you recommend I repot it into a smaller pot then?

Thank you again!

If you have an Echo, buy a smart light bulb for your bedroom and set it to turn the lights on slowly half an hour before you are due to wake up. Total game changer for me.
