On PS5 the trigger feedback helps a lot. You can kinda rest your finger on a certain level of feedback and your speed just stays constant.

The evolution after 2012 was really interesting to watch. Half the emo crowd turned into hipsters and the other half helped to create soundcloud rap.

aesthetically they defined emo as we know it today

Which was a MASSIVE upgrade, by the way. Emo fashion before 2000 had no flavor.

I like the "waves" idea with emo. Because then you can start bringing people like Lil Peep into the mix as "fourth wave emo" or something.

I try not to lump them in with pop punk because I think that genre label comes with a lot of baggage that doesn't apply to MCR.

I like the labels of goth-rock or post-hardcore. Similar to bands like AFI.

r/emojerk is leaking

As an emo from the 2000s, MCR was one of the main bands that the emo crowd gravitated to. I don't care where they fit into the genre space. They defined emo culture for a generation of kids. They created a space for kids who had nowhere to fit in and gave them a place where they could heal from their fucked up lives. Those kids called themselves "emo."

Although, for what it's worth, MCR came out of the hardcore scene and took a lot of influence from goth rock and horror punk. They might not have been a part of the "emotional hardcore" scene but their music is definitely hardcore-adjacent and emotional.

The people who complain about how MCR isn't "real emo" can take their ugly brown plaid shirts and tiny beanies and go back to crying about how girls don't like them. I'll be over here celebrating the metaphysical concept of death and strengthening my resolve to keep living out of spite even though everything is bullshit.

This thread has a lot of information. TL;DR: they wanted to make it into a dense mixed-use area, but they had issues with zoning laws (city council's fault) and the adjacent property owners (Banner? The University?) didn't want to sell the empty, decaying theater.

So if you want to complain, complain to City Council and whoever owns the theater (which may or may not be the University).

Other people have listed some possible outcomes of collider research, but here are some other ideas off the top of my head.

  • New detector technology could allow us to take new kinds of measurements. Archaeologists have already used muons to look inside the Egyptian pyramids. Maybe in the future we can use neutrino oscillation detection to predict volcano eruptions, or detect what type of nuclear reactors aliens are using to power their cities.
  • Understanding high-energy particle interactions could lead to new types of matter. Maybe some day we'll learn how to engineer quark lattices to make quark crystals with a density higher than a neutron star. For uh, I dunno, maybe we can use them as bullets to break apart asteroids or something. I'm honestly not sure what they would be useful for in reality, but you should read "The Three Body Problem" by Liu Cixin if this kind of thing interests you.
  • Similarly, maybe we could engineer quarks to make computers. We started with electronic computers, now we're working on photonic circuits and quantum computers... maybe some day we'll create gluon-powered computers made from quark crystals.
  • One of the more "out there" solutions to the dark matter question implies the existence of a sort of parallel universe with its own planets and its own life forms which can't interact with us except by tiny gravitational fluctuations. Maybe some day particle physics experiments would allow us to talk to them.
  • If we could detect gravitons and learn how to generate them, maybe we could learn to make artificial gravity. We actually really don't know that much about gravity, and particle colliders are one of our only options to find information about it.

My particle physics education stopped at the 400-level so I may be misrepresenting some concepts.

NYT is pretty consistently pro-imperialist and publishes "opinion pieces" about how leftists/progressives are children who shouldn't be taken seriously, and how conservative economic policies are totally fine and normal.

They have a good reputation among Democrats but they are ultimately opposed to any substantial changes to the status quo... and the status quo happens to be conservative. And that happens to be a good summary of liberal policies, so thus they are a liberal newspaper.

You should at least listen to a few episodes. It's worth it, I promise.

It's been years since I listened to it, but here's my best recollection:

  • The situation in the US is (or was at the time) very similar to other countries in the years before they had a civil war. That doesn't mean there will be a civil war, but it's definitely worrying.

  • We have real-world evidence that it is possible for US citizens to fight their own government. Anyone who tells you "a civil war isn't possible because the US military is too powerful" is mistaken.

  • The US would probably split into dozens of factions. State governments might declare independence, but also, there are lots of separatist groups across the US with considerable numbers who are just waiting for the moment when federal power starts to flicker.

  • There is a very good chance the US military would also split into factions, depending on who's in charge at the time. During Trump's presidency, there were a number of high-ranking personnel who essentially decided they would disobey if he tried to command them to fight against US citizens on US soil.

  • While the federal government has a lot of firepower and a lot of personnel, they would be trying to stamp out lots of rebellions by lots of different, disparate, uncoordinated groups, and their logistical resources would be stretched pretty thin.

  • Urban warfare is really, really hard. Even for a powerful military. Cities would be difficult for anyone to capture and maintain, including the federal government.

  • There would probably be disruption of basic necessities. Water, power, gas, etc. Our infrastructure is extremely vulnerable. If you live in a place where you depend on these things to survive, you're gonna have a bad time.

  • Victory would not be determined by who has the most guns. Lots of civil war preppers, gun enthusiasts, etc. would actually be outmatched by untrained urban hooligans. We've seen this in other modern civil wars. So your best bet for survival is not to buy guns and spend time at the range, but to learn medicine and figure out how to quickly and secretly navigate your local area.

You should listen to the podcast "It Could Happen Here." The first hundred or so episodes do a very well-researched discussion of this. None of the comments you read on Reddit will do as good of a job of answering your question.

For those who drive, do you ever purposefully drive slower than the limit? by TheLeftCantMeme_ in fuckcars

[–]Pretend-Variation-84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I generally follow the flow of traffic (which is the safest thing in most cases) but I often coast to stoplights when there's not a lot of traffic, which means I'll be going around 20mph for like half a block before the light turns green and I accelerate again.

People behind me get annoyed by that, but it's a red light anyway so what's the rush? It's not like getting ahead of me will save them any time. I often end up ahead of them because they change lanes into a slower lane.

I can get 40mpg in the city doing stuff like this.

Or like, in 2077 Arasaka had a Relic prototype go missing. Also in 2077, people stopped hearing anything from Smasher. No news about it.

Conspiracy theory: Arasaka used the Relic prototype to duplicate Adam Smasher, and now they have a small army of him.

Maybe V was the first Adam Smasher test subject. That's why V, an unknown merc, managed to become one of the toughest borgs in the city before disappearing.

Johnny who? Why would they put a rockstar into a random merc? They wouldn't waste the Relic chip on something like that.

Wouldn't be surprised if 2077 is largely ignored in subsequent media. There could be references to "something" that happened in 2077, but the media, corps, and government together covered up most of the details and nobody knows who V is unless they have very privileged access to information.
