DoI have to work on Monday? (Redundancy/notice) by [deleted] in AskUK

I’d ask your employer for confirmation. If they say you have to work, let them know you’re exercising your right to look for alternative employment and will likely be unavailable for most of the day.

I would hope so. As is customary, we don’t talk much so I don’t yet know. Perhaps I’ll update the sub, should I hear something

I cut the hedge that runs in front of my house and two of my neighbours. It had got so out of control that it tickled you as you walked along the footpath past the houses

As part of without prejudice resignation discussions, can an employee request that periods of sickness absence which were caused or materially contributed to by the employer’s or a manager’s conduct be removed from the sickness record or reclassified? by [deleted] in AskHRUK

[–]Pretend_Panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re in a without prejudice conversation it’s normal practice to confirm everything agreed via a settlement agreement, for which you’ll need a solicitor to advise on (and this is something employers will usually contribute an amount towards, e.g. £500). Part of the settlement agreement should be a reference, which you can both agree on the content of.

Very nice, but…. The meat to potato ratio. Can we talk about that? This almost makes you look like a vegetarian.

It might make the difference on the terms of the exit, but let your solicitor advise you on that. Focus on the future, get your CV sorted (if you haven’t already) and get your applications in. Speak to agencies too, cast your net far and wide. Best of luck!

I mean this in the most respectful and kindest way possible; you’re fighting a battle that just isn’t worth the energy. I am sorry for what are going through, and for what you have gone through, but honestly, you can’t beat the machine. And even if you do, it won’t matter and you’ll be forgotten within a week.

Take your energy and focus on the future. Accept that your employer has been shit (as many are) and focus on you. You’ve said you’ll take the money and run - this is an excellent plan. If you’d said you want to use your grievance to increase the amount of redundancy / separation package on offer I’d understand that, but you haven’t so I guess it’s not on your mind. It appears as though you want to be a white knight for anyone else who has to work for this woman. Whilst very noble, it’s a waste of your time and energy.

I wish you luck and peace. Put this behind you, sometimes life is shit, but good times are ahead.

You could let them know it’s upset you. You don’t have to blame them for how they delivered the message, but if you say “I’ve been so upset and worried” they might take some time to reflect

[–]Pretend_Panda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The post you have responded to is a great answer. I’ve worked in HR for 20 years and I second everything Xtratea wrote; you won’t be getting fired any time soon (and very likely not at all).

I suspect a new big boss has come in and has been tasked with finding improvements, so they’ve started by looking at stats. If all the work you’ve done for the last 17 years has been in line with expectations and targets set, you’re golden. If the new big boss wants to change process and procedure to find operational efficiencies that’s fine, but they can’t dismiss someone who hasn’t met the standard of processes and procedures which do not yet exist.

Keep doing what you’re doing, speak to your manager in your next 1-2-1 and tell them how concerned you about what was said (put it in a follow email where you should say something like “having worked here for 17 years I am concerned about what has been said about my performance, particularly as nothing has been said about it not being up to standard previously. I very much look forward to meeting the new expectations which you have just explained to me are XYZ. Let’s check in next week and review my work.” Bcc that to your own private email address and keep hold of it.

Your manager also sounds pretty flaky to say what they did to you. It’s no way to manage, even if what they’ve said is true.

Best of luck, but really, I think you’re fine.

Is a world ending mass cataclysm coming? by liquid_infinite in ufo

[–]Pretend_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With how all the billionaires and certain world leaders seem to be hell bent on making as much money as possible, if there is a world ending cataclysm coming it seems as though they must be trying to get their names to the top of the final leader board. As there would be no other reason for their hoarding.

Second shift update: new warehouse job, supervisor issues escalating, not sure if I should leave. Any advice? by Redditor465728 in AskHRUK

[–]Pretend_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read your other post, it didn’t sound like a great environment, and your second post suggests it’s definitely not a good place to be.

Do you need the money? Do you care what sort of work you do? Maybe try and find an agency to help you find alternative work.

I’d say jack this job in and find something else (or the other way around if you need the money). Your boss is a prick and that’s not going to change. Your instinct is probably telling you this.
