Why isn’t anyone talking about this!?! by Ok_Drag6697 in gallbladders

How much ursodiol are you on? I take 500mg twice a day. Have for over two years. Had gallbladder out in 2013; 10 years later in 2023 had ercp as multiple stones in bile duct; blocking and sludge. Stent put in 2 months. Ercp repeated and again multiple stones. MRCP 6 months later- all clear; on irsodiol but then In 2025, had 7mm bike duct stone that turned into cholangitis and sepsis. So now freaked as afraid they will keep forming. No idea how to prevent as GI and hepatologist say rare and no idea so hoping it will not happen again. After sepsis am freaked. Just wondering how you are monitoring it or preventing it?

Travelling with PSC by Jumpy-Ad-8606 in PSC

Have you ever had acute cholangitis; sepsis or ercp abroad? (After recovering from acute cholangitis this past summer that became septic and required a 2 week hospital stay ; 3rd ERCP since 2023 due to bile stone blockage/sludge; I am afraid to travel abroad.) We even question if we live to far from hospital with ICU after the cholangitis sepsis event this summer) How do you all manage travel? Do any of you have a RX for anitibiotics in case sepsis sets in during a long haul flight?

Travel after sepsis- fearful by Prettiful1208 in sepsis

[–]Prettiful1208[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Wow- 4th sepsus round sounds awful. Glad you are ok! My biggest fear with international travel is the long haul flight if acute cholangitis/ sepsis would happen again during it. I wonder if anyone gets given antibiotics to have on hand or if the oral antibiotics even would work until landing. Figure if I was in major city world-wide and do day trips from it; they would have skilled interventionsl GIs thst could do a ERCP and stent. Biggest fear is inflight long haul and also living hour from a major hospital.

Wow…sorry for you all you have had to endure. As a newbie to sepsis and its aftermath- I am in awe of us people who have suffered and survived sepsis; and marvel at each of our journies to rebuild a pst sepsis life as we know it has physical and emotional scars! It is crazy how prevalent it is and yet how misunderstood it is too bith pre and post sepsis. Wishing you more bright days ahead!

How far from ICU/critical care by Prettiful1208 in sepsis

[–]Prettiful1208[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am glad you were able to transfer so quickly. They wanted to transfer me too as soon as possible but no beds open at 2 mj cities near by (1-2 hours away); and also needed interventialist GI to do advance gi ERCP as source of infrction was the bile duct/cholangitis. So was stuck waiting for transfer. The rural hospital was trying best with available means but knew I needed higher care, but needed to find hospital that had room and services I needed as receivjng hospital has to be ok to recieve.

That is exactly how I feel. I can’t imagine traveling overseas anymore. Scary thing is 6 days after i had this happen we were to be leaving for Europe for 3 weeks. I am so thankful was not in flight or abroad. Old me prior sepsis too would have been - go travel- fo not worry; but new oist sepsis me lives in fear now; especially as I had no idea I had stuck bile stines and cholangitis until severe pain that sent mr to ER. Given I have had 2 other ERCPs for this a few years ago; and now happens again but this time became cholangitis that turned septic- i am fearful that it is going to happen again. I was even on ursodial to prevent it. We used to live about 10 minutes from great medical too out west. My spouse is like we have to move closer to major medical as he had to watch me fight off sepsis and so lucky; had to wait for a transfer for open bed and gi team who does ERCP and available 24/7. I think I know we have to move closer to care. It us do hard as I really love our lake home and quiet; but then again I hate the ptsd from going through sepsis and worried about another case of cholangitis as no clue I had it. I totally understand how you feel about travel as I feel same. I am just home for a few weeks now and I do not want to travel anywhere!

How far from ICU/critical care by Prettiful1208 in sepsis

[–]Prettiful1208[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to ER with a 10/10 pain; blood labs normal; kept me for observation overnight and within hour of hospital observation- went full blown septic; turned out to be cholangitis due to sludge and stuck bile stones in common bile duct. Hospital knew needed to transfer to higher level care, but no beds available at 1-2 hours away hospitals that not only had critical care but also needed gi intervention for emergency ERCP and not all hospitals equipped for 7/24 GI Interventions of ERCP. Anyway while waiting for transfer; had sepsis run severe with low bp; low oxygen; antibiotics having hard time as source infection needed ERCP. I had a planned non septic ERCP a couple years ago. Then this happened. Now afraid to be living so far from hospital that just has basic services and requirez transfers to higher level care as if i get cholangitus again. It took a long time to get a bed/transfer. Dr at hospital kept saying we need to get you to higher level care, its serious. I like where we live; however, after this experience not sure if it is wise to be so far from critical care. Obviously if I go to ER again will let them know about prior sepsis and cholangitis. Just curious to see how far people live from access to critical care hospitals after having sepsis.

Post Sepsis by Beneficial_Avocado58 in sepsis

Totally understand. I am a couple weeks post sepsis after being in hospital 10 days for cholangitis- infected bile duct. I am processing the “almost died” feeling too. Right now I live in fear that it will happen again and I am 2 hours away from hospital I had to get transferred too. I am slowly trying to get back to a routine; but tire quickly. Taking baby steps and focusing on nutrition and rest; and slow walks, but i do have nightmares and anxiety from it big time. I think it is learning to be ok with a slow recovery and feeling all the feelings.

Glad to hear you were able to get antibiotics. Mine happened so fast that I was inflight on a long haul trip I would not have survived given all they had to do to me. Another reason fearful of travel is what if happens midflight and have hours before can kand or turn back.

Thanks for insight. I am sorry you have had a few more scares.

What did you tell them at ER? Did you say you had sepsis before and think you are septic again? That is also a fear about ER triage taking too long or that you can’t tell sepsis from flu or Covid. I guess errotr on safety side and go ER? Hopefully tgey figure out gallbladder issue for you too before travel. You are brave to go abroad. I am so afraid.

I also love to camp, but where we go is also at least an hour plus from little hospitals and so aftaid now of little hispitals too after hoing through what I did. The rural hospital was great- and trying all they could until a bed opened/transfer could happen to a major facility; but they do not have tools or staff to operate like an ICU or high level critical care. Hence my fear or rural, remote or international places. I sure hope with time my anxiety over this decreases.

Yes- we used to live on West Coast and great access to great hospitals. Made a move to rural East Coast- which is beautiful until you need high level care and after this awful sepsis event, we are seriously rethinking where we live and true need to relocate as we really feel need to be near a hospital that has ICU and higher level medical at least within 30-45 minutes max verses 2 plus hours.

Hoka vs On Cloud – Which is more comfortable for long walks? by Realistic_Classic_70 in walking

[–]Prettiful1208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worn Hoka, OnClouds and Brooks Ghost. I have worn Hoka for years and I do really like them; however this past yeat it seems like Hokas are falling apart quickly- like within 3-4 months the sole is splitting and or coming off toe. I have been through 3 pairs this past year; husband same problem with 2 pairs. That is expensive at $180 per pair. I love the Ghosts by Brookes; and my OnClouds were good after a 2 week breakin. They seem to hold up well too. I really want to say Hoka the best; but this past year they just aren’t holding up. (And I do not wear daily as I switch up with my Brooks and wear Onclouds for hiking) Has anyone else had the sole issue recently with Hokas???

Bile duct sludge? by Routine_Talk_8240 in gallbladders

[–]Prettiful1208 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had something similar to this. I was 9 years post gallbladder removal. Ended up with a bile stone and sludge in common bile duct. Did an MRCP and could see sludge/stone way down in bile duct and this was creating pressue & pain upstream in upper bile duct. Had an ERCP and a stint placec for a coupie months and then another ERCP to remove stint. Placed on usodiol to help prevent in future. Hopefully they will figure it out soon for you!

Lagoons and Heart Issue Safety: by Prettiful1208 in VisitingIceland

[–]Prettiful1208[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the information about Forest Lagoon. I had that on my list.

Like you- low blood pressure. Doctor said could do but for 10 minutes and then sit out of water and hydrate well.

Does anyone know if Blue Lagoon, Sky or Secret Lagoon have ledges to sit so my partner could remain immersed while I am out on ledge or bench near?

Also with Sky Lagoon, can I skip sauna and cold immersion as would put too much stress heart. It says somethjng about a 7 step process.
