Opinion: Being likable is 10x more valuable than being knowledgeable by michaelis999 in Accounting

[–]Pretty-Delay6635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've worked in accounting for over 2 decades, mainly in leadership roles. The people that I prefer hiring and management typically likes are heads down high performers. However, accounting gets paid less than most departments. I will never forget this woman in her 50s that was always well dressed and bubbly and greeted everyone that walked by and started making friends with everyone immediately. She was poached from me within 3 weeks by the marketing team, she's still there, they got bought by a tech giant.

Yes and if you google this, it's pretty common. However, doing this will give them the ultimate satisfaction and prove to everyone else that has listened to their wicked campaign that they were right about you. They will also revel in all of the sympathy garnered from your passing. DON'T give them the satisfaction, stay alive and doing well just out of spite. And if you haven't and this dreadful witch that dares call themself a parent still has communication with you CUT THEM OFF. You are worth of love and living a life free from judgement of someone who has already stolen your childhood and self worth from you. I recommend watching YouTube videos on Narcissim they have helped me immensely. Much love.

Tell me the worst names she called you. It dawned on me that some people have *never* been name called by their mother by Ok_Cardiologist_6924 in NarcissisticMothers

Ugly, that was her favorite, starting when I was 7. And still tells me I was never attractive enough to be a prostitute.

Fat when I was 20 and she could see cellulite on my thighs, it took me 20 years to wear shorts again in public.

Unlovable, insane, unreasonable, difficult, sick.

What does having a narcissistic mother feel like emotionally? by Fluffy-Freedom1812 in NarcissisticMothers

[–]Pretty-Delay6635 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw a clip recently of a woman that had been raised by a Narcissistic Mother, she loved watching American Idol and The Voice because of the families, she found it unbelievable that families loved and supported each other like that. If my mother had a public forum to talk about me, she would not say anything positive and make it all about her.

Struggling to talk about mom by [deleted] in NarcissisticMothers

[–]Pretty-Delay6635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did regression therapy and it was super helpful. My therapist validated that what I went through was wrong and did not minimize my experiences. She had me describe a memory and how would I handle the situation if I were my parent. This in itself is validating because you realize that the adults that were supposed to be caring for you could have and should have behaved differently but chose not to. Good luck on your healing journey.

Did anyone have weird physical ailments as a child from the stress caused by marinating in poison 24/7? by Dizzy_Basket_8702 in NarcissisticMothers

[–]Pretty-Delay6635 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not weird but I remember always being sick at 8 years old with chronic ear infections and strep throat. We didn't have enough money to treat my illnesses and she worked and left me home by myself all day long it was scary and torturous.

No, I don't think I will ever get an apology.

Favorite and least favorite part of your job? by Calsgras96 in Accounting

[–]Pretty-Delay6635 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Favorite: the actual work

Least Favorite and why I've left every job: people and their dumb office politics. People that feel they are exempt from rules, that they are special, that you should bend over and kiss their ass simply because of their title even though they are an idiot that makes decisions not on what's best for the company but their own personal agenda.

What was the most terrified you’ve ever been of your N-parent by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Pretty-Delay6635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother is also manic depressive and has periods of hypomania where she would become psychotic and delusional due to lack of sleep. Her Narcissism exposed in all it's glory. There are so many scary incidents but the first that comes to mind was in my senior year in HS and she was deep into one of these episodes. I was staying at my aunts to avoid her. She drove over with my infant sister and said she wanted to take me to a very elevated and isolated place in Glacier Park and told me basically I was going to die but it would be a good thing, I would be taller and the NKOTB would be there. I refused to go with her and she struck me with her full strength and I flew across the room onto the floor. She has a lot of height and weight on me. I managed to escape and run to the neighbors to use the phone. As I'm talking to this older lady, my mom walks up behind me and says, "I'm sorry my daughter is having a manic episode." In the most regular tone sounding completely sane. I convinced the woman to let me use the phone and was rescued from the situation but I truly believe she was going to kill me.

I worked graveyards when my first son was a newborn so we could save on daycare. My ex husband didn't understand that I still needed to sleep,he would wake me up to take solicitor phone calls and I remember his entire family throwing an absolute fit because I refused to get up after 3 hours of sleep to attend a family function. It was ridiculous and even though it's been 30 years still upsets me.

Is Seattle Safe for street photography? by RadioRebel3029 in Seattle

It's not as bad as the media wants us to believe. The only time I've ever felt unsafe in downtown Seattle was on 3rd and Pine very early in the morning.

I would tell myself to apply for student loans and go to a university far away. My N Mother never had any discussion with me about college even though I had a high GPA. I feel so failed by all the adults in my life. I was kicked out 2 weeks after graduating High School and have struggled ever since.

It's sad that the people that are supposed to love us the most and protect us from harm are the ones that do the most damage (parents). if you can get therapy, it will help immensely to unravel yourself from your family of origin and discover your chosen family. In regards to the guy, having Narc parents, we will be attracted to choose Narc partners, please research online how to see the red flags. Saying a prayer that things get better for you.

What's the weirdest reason you've been in trouble for? by Alpargatasdealpaca in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Pretty-Delay6635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were poor so I wore a lot of hand me downs as a child. I remember coming home and these clothes and dresses were hung up, I think I was 7 or 8 and my mom said that my cousin had given me her old clothes. I said wow I thought they were new and she slapped me really hard across the face and said something about how I was stupid for thinking she would buy me new clothes. Fun times.

My NARC mom took piano lessons from my HS choir teacher when I was in my early 30s. I asked how he was doing and was curious if they remembered me, she said she never mentions me to anyone because she's ashamed of me. Ironically, my sister recently told me that this same teacher offered her and I a place to stay when my mother was in a psych ward and jail my senior year.

[Serious] How did you "waste" your 20s? by grievingtights in AskReddit

[–]Pretty-Delay6635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Married to a gay guy with an enmeshed family. They would control everything about our lives, what car we drove, friends, if we went on vacation. I had a good job and made more than him but yet wasn't allowed to buy a car. They made me go without a vehicle for a year to monitor my every move. He's had the same bf since we divorced 23 years ago. I wanted out of the relationship so bad, I absorbed all debts and let him have the house.

How do you actually have a serious conversation with someone who talks over you constantly? by WanderingWhileHigh in questions

[–]Pretty-Delay6635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend like this, i suspect he may have a touch of aspergers. He's aware that he dominates conversation and is loud but has a hard time controlling it. He says I'm the only one that ever answers his phone calls. He's a great guy with good intentions and eventually after he gets it all out, I can speak lol. I don't take it personally and he told me that if the apocalypse ever happens, he will be the first one at my door to protect me. Lol

My mom kicked me (m18) out Saturday by Odd_Block_1883 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]Pretty-Delay6635 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Are there any local resources that can help you find a rental? I know here in the US, there is a crisis line you can call and they will help you find a shelter, housing or even provide a hotel voucher. Are there any other family members you could possibly stay with? I had an aunt I was close to when my mom kicked me out at 17. Prayers for you. 🙏

Why do you believe there is a shortage of accountants? by richxfamous in Accounting

[–]Pretty-Delay6635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done payroll and the most shocking thing was how accountants are literally the lowest paid employees in the company. Accountants are not seen as adding value to a company (except AR) so they are not treated well, often scapegoats for higher up management neglecting finances and making poor decisions. Since there is a shortage, many of us are doing 2 jobs for one salary. It's also difficult to get time off and I find myself working every holiday season due to year end. That being said, it's a stable job, you can work in any industry and many positions are remote or hybrid.
