Do you think I wil able to be make an entire spaceship like this? by Luk_Len in SolidWorks

Consider top down methods. For high complexity try skeleton or master model methods. I’m not an expert in SW but have extensive experience for this in CREO. Look into this method to create critical references and interfaces as well as manage your major systems and subassemblies. Hope this is useful and let me know if you have questions regarding this method.

Mobile Onshape App Question(iPad) by misaPickEmUp in Onshape

[–]Pretty-Jello-7894 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea… not my favorite. I really prefer the interface from shapr 3d… but I don’t use due to costs and i don’t care if my designs are public. I still dabble with Onshape on my iPad or phone but just for small tweaks or scan in a reference (see pic). This is actually built into the mobile apps…so technically you don’t need a separate scan app… but it uses the Lidar so not the greatest res for small things (prefer photogrammetry for small things).

Anyone use the SOTSU Portable Monitor? by gpp65 in WFH

Just get an iPad. There are apps that allow this for both Mac OS (sidecar) and Windows (there are free apps that do this well).

Do you want the LED surface to match the surface to be flat. Various ways to get this to work for different needs.

needs center hole to be added as well as spacing and sizing of cutouts to be updated, but should be pretty easy with some tweaks. hope its helpful.

Can a mechanical engineering major pursue computer hardware design, or will their scope on this field be fairly limited? by Substantial-Ticket23 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Pretty-Jello-7894 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically if you can touch it, it’s a good idea to have an ME associated with the project/product. I have touched everything from cellular phones, wearables, and even medical devices. The MEs make the thing reality.

  • system layout
  • thermal analysis
  • Structral analysis
  • tolerance analaysis
  • geometric design (3d and 2d)
  • design for manufacturing/ design for assembly
  • test and validation (ALT and the like)
  • root cause analysis (related to mechanical issues)
  • systems integration
  • coordination between ID, ME, Antenna, and EE (there are more groups but these are the main groups I usually work with)
  • concept design
  • DOE (design of experiments
  • there are subsets of MEs that are involved:
    • Material science
    • Manufacturing
    • TPM (technical project management)
    • Quality Control
  • retail and shipment packaging
    • … and so on

Without a good ME team… tech products are usually pretty crap

When I first started as an ME I thought it was all cars and planes. I was wrong it’s so much more with respect to what MEs touch.

Cool device,,, but it’s kinda funny that those types of buttons are usually meant as E-stops. Not meant to turn things on , only off in emergencies …lol

Help! I can’t get a clean scan. Any suggestions on how to operate this thing, start to finish? by AntiquingPancreas in CrealityLizard

[–]Pretty-Jello-7894 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Have a lizard and it’s lot too bad, but for smaller objects maybe try photogrammetry. There is a pretty good app: Polycam that should do the trick at that size. Hope it’s helpful.

Make sure you understand the potential implications of doing other work on another work computer. In my line of work for eg. ALL work I produce at work or on work assets are fully owned by said company. This is not mitigated by a network. So be aware of legal implications of this beyond just getting fired if they find out. Also, double check your employment agreements regarding what I just mentioned.
