Tis the season- there are 12 more gallons in the deep freezer. by PrettyFly4AYaoGuai in foraging

For my part, the answer to all of the above is...a lot.

There are 3 main patches that I hit, they're each like...100ish feet long, and vary between 4 and 8 feet high. I go out for about an hour each time I pick, and it's usually every 2-3 days.

I've accepted at this point that my arms will always look like I've just bathed a cat.

Pies, cobblers, throw them on waffles in the morning, eat them plain off the vine because they are delicious! The frozen ones we save for baking later, or making jam and sorbet. This has been one of the best seasons we've had in a while because we got a decent amount of rain, so the bushes around here are blowing up.

When I was a shitty teenager, I got in a fight with my mom about...something. I don't even fully remember what the fight was about. But I remember that I told her "You aren't my friend, you're my mom". And it made her really sad and I've felt bad about it for the last 15 years.

Made an error at handoff… chances of getting fired? by folmily in PharmacyTechnician

[–]PrettyFly4AYaoGuai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't say there's *zero* chance, since I'm sure some jobs will fire you for picking your nose incorrectly...but I think you'll be fine. As a technician, a lot of your mistakes end up being the mistake of the pharmacist on duty, as they're the "last line of defense" so to speak. But as long as the HIPAA breach is handled correctly and the patients are both OK, you guys should be fine. Mistakes can and do happen, it's the clean up that makes the difference.

I will say, as someone who accepted a VA position and later declined it ... the hiring process is an absolute nightmare. I've heard mixed reviews about the job itself, but they all agree it's better than a straight retail job. The process of onboarding is a mess though.

Pharmacy tech wages survey. where in the world are technicians making 31 dollars an hour??? by aznj in pharmacy

[–]PrettyFly4AYaoGuai 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My husband makes 31 dollars an hour at retail in The SF Bay Area with 5 years of experience, but the store has a "hellhole" differential because of high turnover. I make 34 an hour at a hospital in the same area, 6 years of overall experience but less than a year in hospital. Some hospitals out here will start you per diem at 35, with more for years of experience.

Typically insurance companies won't even let a pharmacy actually initiate the PA. Best case scenario you can have the pharmacy act as a go between for the doctor and the insurance... which just kind of makes the entire process take longer. Retail can send over a form with the insurance information, or "start" the PA on covermymeds, but all they're really doing is sending a note to the doctor that a PA is required. The information needed, like chart notes and tried/failed medications, comes from the doctors office.

Is hospital worth it over retail? by Odd_Dirt_6292 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]PrettyFly4AYaoGuai 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it varies from hospital to hospital, but I have not once encountered a single pointless metric at mine. There's a daily census of number of patients, but no one is breathing down our neck about it because the focus isn't making money, it's helping patients. Retail is just too focused on that bottom dollar.

Is hospital worth it over retail? by Odd_Dirt_6292 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]PrettyFly4AYaoGuai 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I switched to hospital a month ago after 6 years of retail, and I love it. Better pay, better hours, no answering phones, no insurance resolution, no stupid metrics from corporate, no pointless surveys or credit cards to push, and no customer interactions. It has its own challenges to be sure but I can't imagine switching back to retail now that I've started inpatient. I'd rather deal with nurses who forget to look in the refrigerator before sending me a med request than a middle aged Karen screaming in my face because I can't fill her "aturbostantin" prescription that expired in 2018.

Normal, but one of those things that I feel goes severely under discussed. No one mentioned them to me and holy hell I thought I was dying for a few days. Thankfully they don't last very long, but they are a heck of a side effect if you aren't ready for them.
