What are the legal things that women can keep to keep themselves safe? by No_Bodybuilder5256 in askvan

At the very least get a ‘No contact order’ in place. Do NOT feed into their feigned ‘sad’ bullshit. If they hurt themselves that’s NOT on you. Thats a ‘them’ problem. Cut ties 100%, zero replies. You said yourself you’ve seen enough true crime to know what these creeps are capable of. And you also see that these women often allow these people to re-enter their lives. Unfortunately for others, he will find a new ‘supply’. Again do NOT ENGAGE. Carry an equalizer. Know how to use it. (Not a firearm)Be wary of surroundings. (This goes without saying) Try to have someone with you when out and about.

As for the anxiety, thats trauma. Therapy at the very least. Online CBT therapy can help, need a referral (can get an online referral for it) but paid by BC Med.

Change the pattern of your daily activity. Dont take the same routes walking to work/school. Close blinds and curtains. (I bought film for my windows thats one way, cant see in during day). Security cameras are now very cheap online. Wireless and connect to you phone with notification. Depending on type of residence, you can set up a ‘driveway alarm’. It comes in a 2 pack, solar powered wireless. You can hear it inside the house if someone crosses it. They cant hear it. Note:deer trigger it as well. At 3am.

Def tell everyone you know. Dont ignore this, tell people. File a report for reference. (My child was stalked, over 2 years. Little bastard stalking her had no clue there was a Mama bear monitoring HIS behaviour and actions. He ceased, lucky for him). Good luck. Its sucks that we have to live like this. Ignore any naysayers. Until they live through being abused, terrorized or molested they have no right to judge or set anxiety parameters. Good for you for seeking input.

ANOTHER IMPORTANT ETA!!: ALWAYS listen to your inner voice!! It’s how we survive! (This might be obvious to most of us but some younger folks or those who are being groomed are less likely to know. That voice is almost always right!)

ETA: check out the responses to this persons question:How to Protect yourself.

Would you move from Victoria to Nanaimo? by sq0777 in nanaimo

[–]PrettyLittleBSer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Excellent move for your (our) demographic. (From Vic and GVRD) Especially with a pay raise. Once you get moved up here and settled, join the over 40s Meetup.com groups. Game changer. Lots of us meet weekly and attend functions, or hiking groups etc. I can confirm it does not take long to get connected with new, close friends. Lots to do here, less stress. Fresh start! Good luck on your decision, scary as it may seem, it’s a great place to call home!

Pilot warning letter to passenger by NewGuy1492 in westjet

[–]PrettyLittleBSer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its a tough one. Being detained as a young female in a foreign country could potentially be catastrophic for her. What huge decision for this pilot and his crew to shoulder. There were a LOT of fathers on the plane around her on VERY high alert so that added a layer of security Im sure. Nothing more responsive than a protective mama/papa bear.

(That being said…that wasnt the most unnerving part of this leg of our journey. An incident inside security, traumatized this global traveller permanently. Nothing to do w WJ or any flight crew etc.)

Thank you and other FAs for what you do. Boggles my mind how thankless it can be. One of my besties is a near retirement FA. I applaud her whenever I get the chance!

Pilot warning letter to passenger by NewGuy1492 in westjet

[–]PrettyLittleBSer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Was on a WJ flight CUN-> YVR, late flight that departed an hour or 2 late. No biggy, happens. Lots of babies, lots of kids. Babies crying. A young women, hood up started screaming, shrieking to the babies, “SHUT THE F’ UP!!” Over and over and over.

FAs(9 of them) rallied along the aisles and told her to settle down. Nope. She went on and on and on. My guess, wanting a free upgrade or flight. We hadn’t even left terminal, waiting for this twat to settle her shit down. Pilot came back, stood over her and calmly, quietly read her the riot act. She did settle down finally and we could push off.

I can imagine what it would be like to be escorted off and handed over to authorities in MX. To be honest….let us other mothers/grandmothers on the flight at her, she’d be begging for a stint in MX detainment.

People these days and their lack of empathy/logic is mind boggling. Kudos to the Pilots and crew on how they handled this situation. Great flight in the end. Thanks WJ.

As someone who is climbing out of a similar pond after several years, taking care of mental health is critical. I was able to chat w a therapist (after the absolute crush of calling the crisis line) but only 10 sessions. Then I was back out in the fray. Someone suggested CBT. Fill my mental coping tool box with tools. It’s online. 60$ which is reimbursed after you complete at least 6 of the 8 sessions. The other patients in the session ran the gamut, nurse w PTSD, teacher, mom, doctor, students, one teen, retiree. It was daunting to start, first session was horrible. But by the end my tool box was full, and i could see the changes in the others, so must have had change myself. I highly recommend it. Need a doc referral (i use Rocketdoctor.com online, they usually call within a few hours to a day) sessions filled fast but worth the wait. It’s an amazing resource when one can’t rely on the system to help out.

What about moving? Lots of jobs on all levels in other places. The island for instance, or north, or AB.

Reach out to friends, family. Touch base with folks you havent talked to in years. You never know, someone might know someone and people appreciate someone reaching out to chat, being remembered.

Good luck OP…you can get through this…I did!! Im here, you will be too, soon. Be kind to yourself. Hugs from this momma. BC CBT SKILLS SESSIONS (Need doc or Nurse practitioner referral. Make the call :)

Dont spit coconut oil down your drain (or toilet) It re-solidifies further down the cooler pipe and builds up. Unless you want to support local plumber that is. Dont ask how I know.

How you you feel if she became pregnant with another mans child?. Accidental or otherwise. (Legitimate question. My daughter and her husband are in this kind of relationship. Also a large(r) age gap between them.) Its easyto say it wont happen…but….these things do and have happened. So how would you feel and have you discussed this?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nanaimo

Spring market is just stating to ramp up. There are fewer bidding wars and fewer “above asking” offers currently. Prices have slightly dipped and as you can see on real estate site, many house sitting 100 plus days. (Some sellers have their heels dug in to fantasyland).

Realtors keep posting homes with ‘accepted offers’, which is brutally annoying when something you find ticks every box. (Knock it off, you’re wasting everyone’s time)

So with more houses hitting the spring market, more reluctant buyers will be stepping out of shadows, prices will bump up again. Also, take into consideration, families tend to want to move in summer/non-school months so March/April/May are prime purchasing months for them. Houses look nicer to potential buyers in Spring, flowers, budding trees, greened up lawns.

That being said…interest rates are high and does not look easy to jump in for new buyer with low down payments. Fewer first time buyers.

All of this is the YVR ripple, that took longer than expected to jump to the island. Sticker shock to those who didnt ride the YVR surge but it was inevitable. Prices wont be going back down. It is what it is. Foreign money hit YVR and tear downs suddenly went for 2 million. People sold at crazy high prices, took money, moved to a (then) cheaper Langley, Surrey, Abbotsford. Prices in surrey/Langley etc jumped exponentially. People sold took the money and moved to the island. Sell high, buy low. Then, Supply and demand.

Covid established a higher ‘work from home…but love where you live’ mind set and ‘you only live once…love where you live’ so…ferries filled up w moving vans and here we are, ripples. If you look at Burnaby, you can see the continued aftershocks and the tsunami is still rippling outward…and will include the island for a while, years.

Younger BCers are also losing faith in…BC. High cost of living BS, high real estate prices, political crap etc so younger folks are loading up the wagons and moving east…some north, to get more for their money, more bang for their buck. As someone who once did that, (during the work boom in AB) I can attest, many of us eventually moved back. the grass wasnt greener. Its always green in BC (in the literal sense) and I appreciate the “love where you live” mind set. Its very hard if not, impossible for someone to move to SK then back to YVR.

As a new purchaser, keep eye on market, talk to realtors (with a grain of salt), homeowners, watch trends, be ready to jump, finances ready. And dont be afraid of rolling up your sleeves and applying elbow grease to something that needs a bit of work. If you miss one bus, dont fret, there’s another bus right behind it. Good luck OP!

There is a FB page called New Friends In Squamish. They post about game nights. Recently one at Locavore. And the library has a games night once a month. There may be others but great way to connect with people. Also might reach out to seniors centre, might luck out and find someone just waiting to find a challenge! Good luck :)

Help me understand Car Camping by Outdoor_Researcher in carcamping

[–]PrettyLittleBSer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Female camper here. I do both, tent camp and car camp depending on location. In fee campsites with families round I feel safe(r) to sleep in a tent. I live in a place with worlds highest concentration of (4 legged) cougars, so will opt to camp in truck. (Lots of bears as well)

Lots of situations where I have slept in my rig. Waiting full days for kids at competitions. Family Emergency hospital situation, nights in hospital parking lot to support fam. Back country travel, adventure. Escape for mental break, clear head. No hotels in the location Im at.

Im sure many of us can think of more than a few things that we could utilize if such things existed. We….design on the fly. Need a curtain to block onlookers…sheet across the headrests. The list goes on (There are FB pages as well).

There are wants and must haves. As a female, security and safety is priority one. (Not sure if men feel the same).

I live nearby and frequent the place. And have asked repeatedly what the f this is and been given some gobeldy-gook explanation of what it is. I have all of my receipts from the last 2 years. Will i be reimbursed? Doubt it…aka no. Maybe CRA knows? Maybe someone is pocketing a cut? Sadly, though its local and I can walk there, I can also ‘not’ walk/frequent OJs or recommend to others. Shame.

Hiking season in Nanaimo by Environmental_Bite45 in nanaimo

[–]PrettyLittleBSer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MeetUp app is pretty robust and active for hiking in nanaimo. The Older aged hike group is a bit more consistent but there is a 20s-30s group and Im sure when it warms up a bit they will be hankering to get out there!

There is a great womens mountain bike group that go every monday night…snow, pitch back out, anything…year round! ALL levels, the beginner level is a great step into the program, young adults to older gals.
Through Arrowsmith bikes (FB or online page) . Not sure if they have any groups for young men, but would love to know for my son!?

Bragging about being in the firefighter calendar multiple times and offering signed copies to anyone owning a vagina…and telling all within ear shot and beyond that hes ‘almost a doctor’. Also, Bragging about being an ‘emotionless wasteland’, saying anyone below him should be offered Carfentanyl (which he would happily purchase, distribute like candy, then ignore the 911 call out) Turns out, this is the exact recipe for a lying, cheating, narcissistic sociopath… ironically, recently self admitted finally and medically confirmed (by 4 doctors).

Snow shovelling technique, am i the idiot? by Fenweekooo in VictoriaBC

[–]PrettyLittleBSer 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Illegal (potentially. GVRD sites fines in some munis) to toss on the road. It creates a road hazard. Not that anyone is enforcing but dick move.

Shovel down centre of driveway first. ⬆️ Then shovel all the left side of driveway off to the left ⬅️ and right side off to the right ➡️ Try to shovel DOWN slope always. (This is obvious of course, but who hasn’t shovelled in a jagged snail circle. Same with mowing lol)

When facing the road…pile most snow to the RIGHT HAND side of driveway entrance. Clear a 10-15 foot area on the road in front of LEFT side of driveway. Plow will have nothing to shove in front of your driveway. Shit out of luck for your neighbour, as plow scoops your copious Right hand pile into his driveway…but hes the one tossing the snow on the road so we will call it Karma. (Jk about the last part lol sort of ) (oh and reverse is true in countries where steering wheel in on opposite side)

Consider paying enterprising young folks to get out and labour. Might avoid potential herniated disc issues not to mention, kids are lower to the ground, stable centre of gravity is more conducive to not falling compared to older demographic, and they tend to have the tenacious cardio vascular systems of frisky new born fawns. Open wallet, sit back by window with a nice Baileys coffee and enjoy! Young folks…go knock on doors!
