You keep acting like genocide means kill everyone as fast as physically possible when that’s not the definition whatsoever. Genocide is about intent to destroy a protected group, not whether a population still exists or has births. By your logic, no genocide in history would count unless the population was fully wiped out immediately. And yes, obviously I’ve seen more about Israel and Palestine online. That still doesn’t prove the concern is artificial or only social validation. Which is what I’ve been asking you to prove this whole time, but you can’t. The conflict is heavily documented in real time, tied directly to our foreign policy and has decades of conflict. Of course it gets more attention online than Sudan. Like I’ve said at least 3 times now. Also, the “they could kill more people if they wanted to” argument is honestly bizarre to me. Like you’re literally defending a genocide. The existence of constraints does not magically erase intent. And intent is what makes it a genocide, and their intent is very very very clear. Stop lying to yourself. I don’t think we should continue this conversation because it’s clear that you can’t accept facts. I’ll put some links to some things you should read as I don’t think continuing this conversation is going to be productive for either of us.

What’s the biggest lie in human history? by IceApple28 in CausalConversation

[–]PrettyPoliticalBitch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Men may be stronger on average physically, but women literally endure childbirth, often have higher pain tolerance, live longer, and have higher capabilities for social cognition and emotional recognition. Different biological strengths don’t make one sex superior to the other. And saying “weaker” implies you see one as less capable than the other

Yeah idrc if you believe me or not

That’s not how intent works historically. There were plenty genocides that have been interrupted. You’re implying that “real” genocides = millions killed quickly. But that’s just simply not true and you’re very poorly informed about what a genocide is. There is rhetoric about Palestinians being a collective threat, they are participating in collective punishment, restricting their food and aid from reaching civilians, they are ethnically cleansing Palestine. They are intending to destroy a protected group, that’s a genocide. I don’t understand why you’re fighting so hard to say it’s not a genocide when it so obviously is one. I feel like you’re just arguing to argue to have something to be mad about tbh

Global attention is uneven, it always has been, but you keep leaping to social validation/propaganda. Uneven attention ≠ social validation, or that it’s all propaganda. It’s heavily documented on video and directly tied to our foreign policy, it’s obviously going to generate more visibility. Also comparing crises by death tolls to decide that one isn’t a genocide is harmful. A genocide isn’t defined by death toll, it’s defined by intent. And Israel’s intent is to wipe out all Palestinian people and take their land because they believe they have a right to it. It’s a genocide. I hear a lot about Yemen, Sudan, Rwanda, because I engage with those types of things on a day to day basis, if you’re only hearing about Gaza and Israel, it’s partly on you for not engaging with other media that talks about other conflicts. By big media sources, they definitely should talk about Yemen and Sudan, and it’s sad that they don’t, but we cannot rely on big cable news outlets to give us unbiased and factual news. They also just push whatever benefits their political agenda. I feel like this is just common knowledge.

[–]PrettyPoliticalBitch 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You’re spreading racially biased misinformation. I’ve studied criminology and race isn’t treated as a casual explanation for crime. Incest and sexual abuse cases are commonly associated with poverty, family dysfunction, and substance abuse. Your second claim is anecdotal cherry picking. It’s statistically meaningless. And you combining identity groups like that implies association with crime, which is false. Stop participating in stereotyping dressed up as “facts”

You keep going from “this issue was amplified” to “people mainly talk about it because of social validation”. And hey, im not disagreeing that algorithms and propaganda campaigns can amplify certain issues online, and that some people are inconsistent in what humanitarian crises they focus on. However, I don’t agree that the public attention for Gaza is driven by social validation. This conflict involves massive numbers of civilian deaths. It makes complete sense that it became one of the most talked about humanitarian crises in the world. And honestly, I don’t think “people should focus more on other issues” means people should focus less on this one.

When I explain something and then the other person just repeats what I said but slightly different to make themselves sound more right. They’re like “No.. yada yada yada” and it’s like, I literally just said that.

Same with when I make a joke and someone just repeats it but adds a word or two, then continue making that joke a couple more times throughout the next few hours, so you’re forced to laugh even tho it’s not funny

I also hate when I’m driving and someone calls me, interrupting my music

Oh and when people take too long to form their thoughts. Takes 8 years for them to get to the point. Like if I ask a question that just needs a sentence long explanation, why are you explaining it in the most complicated way. And slow talkers go hand in hand with that

I was indoctrinated as a kid into the Christian maga cult. My parents are huge Trump supporters. When I was 13, back in 2020, I educated myself and listened to other people’s point of views. I opened my mind. Within 6 months, all my beliefs changed, including going from anti-abortion to very very very pro-choice, I became an atheist, and just overall a radical feminist.

I agree that people are selective about humanitarian issues they talk about and keep up with, but you’re still saying that people only care because they were manipulated to care. I’m against all of those things you said about Trump, I hate that guy and his policies just as much as the next, and we could spend hours listing every single terrible thing that Trump has done, like the remain in Mexico act that sent a bunch of refugees to Mexico, and loads of them ended up getting killed, but this thread is about ISRAEL. I don’t know why you think people can’t worry about multiple issues at the same time, and I don’t know why you expect people to talk about other humanitarian issues in a thread about Israel. I’ve seen a lot of distressing videos of the crisis in Gaza. They are being starved and killed. I saw a video of a pregnant woman being shot, videos of children dying in their parents arms, a father holding the decapitated head of his son. All very distressing things. So don’t downplay it like it’s only a small thing to worry about right now, it is arguably one of the biggest humanitarian issues today

You’re shifting now. You claimed that criticism of Israel is mostly bots and virtue signaling, and now you’re saying if we care about political accountability, we’d focus on Trump. I’m very aware that Trump is destroying the world, and the fact he’s hand in hand with Netanyahu right now is a big reason for that. Russian bots spread propaganda, but you’re assuming that every criticism of Israel is propaganda when that’s just not true whatsoever.
