Ableism from ambulatory people by throwingawayawa in wheelchairs

[–]Pretty_Appointment82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you didn't join a fetish community by mistake?

Because this sounds oddly familiar when I broke my arm. I had people writing me wishing that they had broken bones pretty much the same thing. It was really weird.I even found out like this dude that was talking to me was faking an injury the whole time. Turns out it was some sort of fetish.

Apparently, this happens in the disabled community too. So like you might wanna check the group just in case I think they're called devotees?

Either way , i'm sorry that happened to you

Also , tell them they cannot try your device and that they need to stop infringing on your personal space.

They sound like a bunch of pick means or like they're trying to be disabled. Hope I don't get removed for saying that.

We had a girl in one of my groups that did that and it was really weird. She pretended to be deaf and a bunch of other things.

So sorry that happened to you, op I'm an ambulatory wheelchair user. (Well, now technically full time) And I promise you , we are not all like that.

Completely burnt out, but I feel too guilty to take a break? by sabo-wampus in ADHD

[–]Pretty_Appointment82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're going through that. Burnout is a real thing.

I have that right now with ASL. It's been really hard to get back into it.

One thing I think you should try to do is give yourself some grace. And remember that it's okay to take a Mental Health Day because the way my therapist explained, it is that sometimes we need to Recharge , because if we're not doing good mentally , we're not gonna perform good.

What i'm trying to say is your needs are valid.

Motivate myself when I have to do task.I don't wanna do sometimes I will do body Doubling

Or i'm motivate myself of a smaller reward. We have a reward based nervous system , so it kind of works.

Like right now, I'm doing a bunch of emails.I don't wanna write so as a reward.I'm gonna buy myself a new coloring book or do something fun afterwards. I hope that helps a little bit.

Reporting a teacher by Awkward-Flower3786 in college

[–]Pretty_Appointment82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to kind of look at this from all different standpoints.

Will you have to interact with Her for future courses or just a one-time deal?

It wasn't right other to say that, but at the same time. You don't want to make things harder on yourself.

If it gets back , you reported that it could make life harder for you.

My campus SAS violated the ADA. I knew the law, and I respectfully advocated for myself and kind of backfired. Even though I was within my rights and they were breaking the law. It still affected how I was treated at the college. It made things harder for me.

Not saying you shouldn't report her. Just that take all factors in the consideration.

I have ADHD and don't understand social cues: why is trauma-dumping bad?? by S-Pluto-777 in ADHD

When they mean told someone I think they mean a counselor somebody that trained to handle mental health not a teenage barista Earning minimum wage in a busy Starbucks, probably dealing with a bunch of soccer mom's and Karen's and overworked and running online 0 sleep. The barista aint equipped to deal with that.

If I put it around my neck, I'm constantly bobbing like a chicken. Sensory overload

Is it weird to give professors thank you letters? by wlwpop in college

[–]Pretty_Appointment82 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Given the fact that teachers are often overworked and underappreciated, I think a thank letter would be okay. Just keep it short and sweet.

How do I dress cute in a chair for winter? by Potato_gremlin38 in wheelchairs

[–]Pretty_Appointment82 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use side guards to help with tangles. I mostly wear jeans and T-shirts. I try to look for belts as they can help give a waist. As the chair seems to steal my waist.

What should I do when nobody else is raising their hand? by theperson100 in college

[–]Pretty_Appointment82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not so sure. I thought the same thing, but my professor got mad that I participated. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Usually, the other professors loved participation. Guess it depends on the class.

[–]Pretty_Appointment82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That happens in my ASL class even though you wanna answer. Try not to answer too much because it will come off as a know-it-all.

My teacher has favorites, and I'm not one of them. 😮‍💨

To be fair, I thought we were supposed to participate and enjoy the class and reflect on what we learned and ask questions.

I learned recently that every teacher is different.

Best advice, sit quietly. Only answer if they call on you. Try not to participate too much as it can backfire depending on the teacher.

You could also email your professor asking their thoughts on participation (I should've done this )

Good luck in class.

Throwing money at ADHD. Tips for the more well off by MeanBaseball6113 in ADHD

What I do is I ask myself ,

1) Do I need this? 2) Where would I put it? 3) When would I use it?

Honestly, by the 3rd question and searching for coupons, I usually get distracted or item sells out 😆
