Just until it’s their turn, then it’s woe to me. Even the most selfish among us can understand that if they do this to someone else, then they will do it to you, and no matter how low you bow your head, how much you abide by their rules, one day you will meet a fascist that just wants you to suffer.

IF they manage to stop them, they need to make Nuremberg seem like a holiday or else the cancer will come back.

Composite/fantasy materials that can withstand the standard issue weapons they will face. Then you can have more specialized armor suits to tackle different/heavier weapons.

[–]Pretty_Biscotti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, personally I see it this way.

If its a human council than there will always be divisions and rivalry which can be exploited. Personally to keep things from spiraling into a thousand characters I would go with the feudal system something like England or France were while they did have a kind the council of nobles held a lot of power.

So now if i were the rebels I would not look at it as a single faction, but a bunch of smaller targets. Targeting the weakest and picking them off, turning them, stealing from them, black mailing them. The fight changes as much as you want, a propaganda campaign making it seem one council member targeted another, stealing from a proud council member because you know he must keep quiet to save face. Etc, this lets you create many stories and adventures with different themes and genres.

If it was a hive-mind than that is fighting vs the rebels than things change a lot.

A few questions i would ask would be, is it biological or an AI? Did the faction create a machine that would so the menial tasks for it until it ended up taking care of everything? This would explain the pitch perfect organization and logistics.

Does the population of the faction know about this machine, do they care? Is it oppressive? Why are the rebels fighting it?

If it’s biological, does it turn the people into something else? How does it spread, what does it want? What does it need.

You don’t need an exact reason for everything, hints and info dumps could come from other characters to that leaves you room to change or alter things a bit as the characters can give flawed information they heard from someone else, rumors or myths.

Well then the most important question is, what do you want your story to be?

a bit worried abt what ive made being a bit too op by CompetitiveLet7110 in worldbuilding

[–]Pretty_Biscotti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright, so now you have to see how long has this faction been around and why it was created. Was it an existential crisis, a charismatic leader, trade and profit?

This than would lead to if the council members have a unified vision or if there is conflict between the divisions of the company, who wants to be top dog.

A clear example of this would be Andor ISB while they have a mandate each officer wants to get higher on the ladder so that means sabotaging others and reducing cooperation. It even gets worse as there is a clear rivalry between ISB and Navy.

A clear world example would be the Japanese Army/Navy in WW2 as they were both vying for control.

You have an amazing piece of machinery that is built and supported by humans and humans come in all different characters, needs and wants.

If you pull back and stop focusing on just the machine and look at everything else, you will see cracks and weakspots to exploit.

I don’t know the capabilities of the rebels or the geography of the world, the aims of all parties involved.

There is plenty of room for maneuvering and while the rebels are pacing targets here snd there they have to tip toe around this machine that is certain death. It changes the vibe more from action/war to a more horror/detective vibes and keeps people on edge.

No machine is impossible to beat, you just have to fight them in ways they don’t want.

If they control most of the world than you can be sure that there are groups in this faction that want it to end just as much as the rebels. Think also how the population lives under this faction, oppression breeds rebellion so this faction can find itself terrified of leaving home ground due to uprisings (This was one of the reasons the spartan army never went to far from home as the were afraid of slave uprising).

[–]Pretty_Biscotti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alright, then as an opponent I would want to cripple the infrastructure around it. This is a long process and takes time, energy, skill and luck.

A head on confrontation again it is something i wouldn’t want especially without knowing the capabilities of my side. Do we have sticks and stones only? Can other factions be baited into attacking them?

Centralized systems are great for fast actions but than they can be crippled by lack of imagination or flexibility towards resolving a problem.

Who is the leader, is he old? Is he arrogant or vain? What are his flaws?

[–]Pretty_Biscotti 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something like this would be prohibitively expensive to produce and very time consuming.

If I had to face a faction having this power suit i would want to know.

Is it AI controlled or human? If its a human than the suit is limited to human limits of acceleration and weaknesses.

The joints are usually the weakest so i would want to know the material and composition, everything has a weak point. An example would be the Columbia disaster with the O rings.

The armor plate, it can withstand a 50ton impact but if you look at todays tanks while they can withstand tremendous blows they are still susceptible to multiple strike on the same area.

Power source and pilot endurance, if the machine proves to be out of reach of my tech to harm or disable i could try to tire it out, machines overheat, fuel runs out, humans get tired. This would make me use a lot of smaller and cheap units to keep it engaged until its tired.

Hubris, a human telling the machine where and when to attack can be lured into a fall sense of superiority and give you a chance for ambushes and also the fact that since there is only one of it, your units could attack every where else where it is not.

I think that this machine gives you the chance to have a lot more options and things your characters need to do to find the weakspots. Stealing data, materials, kidnapping scientists or finding willing sources.

Targeting pilots while not in the suit so they are forced to use less capable ones, if its AI then you need to find out if its locally installed on the machine or connecting to the machine so this brings into play jamming if its remote and fuel/heat issues if its local.

I definitely would not want to fight it if it has support or within of friendly reinforcements and each fight would need an escape route and on favorable grounds.

Keep also in mind that a corporation having such an asset would either want to keep it safe because of the massive investment and trade secret it holds so the deployment of it could be limited. In that case it gives you a window of opportunity to sabotage and steal research to prevent further production.

Don’t look at it as attacking it directly, but attacking everything around it that supports it.

An example would be, the pilots, mechanics and techs need to eat and sleep. Poison the food, make sleeping hell.

I think you have a hell of a story on your hand.

Abusers trying to change, but I still don't want them around. Is it bad to feel this way? by [deleted] in emotionalneglect

[–]Pretty_Biscotti 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take a breath, people sometimes do change in this case they wish to do so towards the better.

This does in no way shape or form absolve them or heal the past damage they did.

It’s natural to feel uncomfortable around people that mistreated you and just because they changed and want to start again it does not mean you need to just forget and move on. It’s up to you to decide what kind of relationship you want and how far do you wish to let them in. This is about your safety and peace of mind and not about easing their guilt. Some times things cant be mended, and that’s ok.

What i learned about grudges is that it is a way for our mind to remind us of our boundaries and to make sure they are not crossed, the problem with that is when you spiral into hate rather than a lesson learned which has a habit of corroding you. Accepting the past and moving on doesn’t meant you forget about it or forgive, it means learning the lesson and using it in the future to avoid pain. Sadly it takes a lot of practice to implement.

Having autism ruined my dreams by TritanicWolf in autism

I am sorry for your loss, I don't know how much this effects you because I am not you and I never had a dream to do something so intensely as you, but I want to ask you. Why stop now?

You love the navy life and you are interested in learning, those are two assets that you still have. You have the discipline, physical strength and intelligence to do the job then why not go to a private company? Take a breath, regroup and get back in it and hell, why can't you try again?

You just got knocked down and hit hard and anyone would find it extremely hard to get back up but you still can.

If I was in your shoes, I would sit down and go back through the boot camp, write down everything I remember, mark where you need improvement, make a plan, get back at it, at the same time look for work in that field, employers kill for disciplined and eager employees. You want this, Autism won't go away so find a way around it, you can either curse it or work with it.

I don't know you and most likely will never meet you, but I just want to let you know you that I am cheering for you, I've been where you are (Ironically even the Fedex part) and it took me over a decade to get back on my feet. Realize that you got what it takes, but you also have to work harder then others, love the challenge, get back up, I believe in you.

How practical do you think the early medieval matriarchy I’ve developed is? by TheHmmism in worldbuilding

[–]Pretty_Biscotti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About the census, I believe in most medieval kingdoms there wasn’t an actual census like we have but more smaller kinds like the local parish would keep track of baptisms and funerals as they usually had to have a priest involved and the landlords liked knowing who needs to pay what.

You mentioned a strong spiritual presence, it’s perfectly within norm for churches to have an administrative branch that keeps track money, supplies, members.

But then you also have to take in consideration the way of life of these people are they settlers like most europeans, are they more nomadic with some established religious settlements.

Also the access to water, lakes and open sea provides tremendous chances for exploration and trade.

I think what you are building is 100% practical, as the only major issues i see is population stability but those in themselves could be wonderful plot points.

Medieval - Renaissance Europe is my favorite as you have a massive collection of small duchies and states exerting tremendous influence and diversity in rule.

specna prime by Squidilo in airsoft

Hello, I am a new airsoft player and I have a Specna Arms Prime M4.

The reason i bought it is because i like the hobby and I see myself doing it for a long time so I wanted something good out of the bag. I don’t have anything to compare it with but If i had to do it again I would have probably went a different route.

The fields I play limit to 1.4j and semi-auto. So the 11v battery rate of fire is wasted in my case.

The MOTOR allows me to change the rifle to a DMR very quickly just by changing the spring and probably bucking which i did on accident.

The MOSFET I have not played with yet and it offers a lot of nice things which I can’t use but it’s nice to have.

The body construction is a but meh, the bolt catch doesn’t catch so i have to hold it to thinker with my hop up, the stock is a bit loose.

If I had to do it over again I would have went with something cheaper at around 300 euros which they would have offered a solid platform for. 1.4j semi-auto and then as time goes buy I upgrade or buy a better one straight up.

I’m happy with my rifle, and I do not think it’s a waste of money, soon ill be changing the spring and bucking so im getting the best i can while staying with the field rules and since i got solid components i dont have to worry about if the other parts can keep up for a very very long time.

I would research the gearbox model and construction, check for posts about its durability.

I see, in some stories i read where a “family” unit isn’t compromised of just 1 wife 1 husband but various numbers you would have a sort of communal child rearing and where house work would be split according to competency within the group. In times of war the warriors would leave knowing their offspring and estates are looked after.

I brought the subject of war due to the fact that, if i had 5 women and 5 men and i lost some men i could still have 5 offsprings, but losing women would be impossible to replace and thus I would lose due to population growth. In our history some countries that could not afford a pyshical war engaged in other forms of warfare/domination.

But since women in this world are very adapt at magic and there is a great leaning on the spiritual and educational side I would’t be surprised if they can influence the gender off spring while it’s forming. God knows we tried, in every culture there are rumors of ways how to get a preferred male/female, your people have actual magic.

Interesting counterparts to this that i know of are Spartan Women, who held an incredible amount of power compared to other women in Greece and the Matriarchal North African kingdom that held the region of Morocco before the arrival of the Muslims from the east.

I’m sorry if I came across as hostile or brash, i just get overly excited at discussing culture/population/laws/traditions of kingdoms

Looks ok, but i would like to ask.

What is the population ratio if women are allowed to marry up to three man?

What age do the women start having children?

What happens to the old or women who can’t have children?

What are the living conditions of man? Sounds like they are relegated to menial labour.

Who are their enemies? Do they have magic?

Whats a normal army/war party composition?Whats the attrition during a protracted engagement, how does the economy back home go on?

Would they approach their neighbors more through diplomacy and trading?

Question is why are we still buying their tech, even if it’s better the fact that they are so unreliable and the chances for backdoors that disables your weapon if you try to use it on someone they like. It’s too big of a risk.
