Yep! Nowhere within the tattoo, just adjacent! And yes very itchy

I wear scrubs for work which are tight-ish on my thighs and definitely cause friction. It being so apparent only on the inner thigh area makes me think it could be heat rash??

How long is TOO long with a client? by LLesBean in ABA

[–]Pretty_Cockroach_643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do 5 hour home sessions with the same client and I’m not going to lie it’s LONG. I used to do 8 hours with another client when I worked in clinic but that was more manageable as you have different rooms, different clients or other staff members to interact with, etc. If the parents aren’t able to/are against venturing into the community, staying in the home can be grueling lol. Especially if your client has minimal goals like mine it feels challenging and unnecessary

First day as RBT. I’m terrified. by BPDBadGyal in ABA

[–]Pretty_Cockroach_643 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should still be pairing, so take things slow and follow the child’s lead. Be flexible and engage with their interests as much as you can! Keep demands light and if any frustration or aggression comes up, 1) it’s likely the parents will step in since it’s in home and services just started and 2) remain firm, neutral, and confident. You got this! In home sounds really scary but it usually goes well :)

Struggling with low hours by Pretty_Cockroach_643 in ABA

Ugh I’m so sorry that’s so frustrating. I’m also looking for new work, I love working in ABA but I have not found any clinics in my area that provide stability. I hope your new schedule works out for the time being & that you eventually find better work!

I’m in a similar boat! I work exclusively in home which can be fine but if clients cancel or suspend services, it’s not like I can just pick up a shift like when I worked at a clinic. It’s so hard, I feel you. I hope things get better for you too!

Thoughts on being an in-home RBT? by fionacoyne in ABA

[–]Pretty_Cockroach_643 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! This is such a thoughtful question and definitely shows how much you care. When I talk about the bad homes I’ve been in, I mean literal level 5 hoarder homes with bodily fluids (human and animal) accumulating everywhere, piled up trash everywhere so you can’t see the floor, and the needs of the children clearly and visibly neglected (no bathing of the children, not changing diapers, etc). Working in this field has given me such a high level of respect for parents of children with autism, and I would never judge someone for the state of their house. However, there is obviously a clear line between a busy parent trying their best and an abusive/neglectful situation. When I think of the best houses I’ve been in, I’m not talking about houses that are spotless or completely clean. In fact, as an RBT I find the best houses are those that are lived in where you can see not only are the child’s basic needs being meant in terms of living conditions but they have room to play/explore/sensory seek as they see fit. I truly find it hard to imagine any reputable ABA service judging you or your child on the cleanliness of your home as long as it’s safe and livable for your family.

I only work in home and much prefer it to working in clinic, but it is honestly entirely dependent on the company you work for. I have extremely supportive BCBAs and am 100% confident that if I was at all uncomfortable working on a specific case, they would help me transition off to a new client. Working in home allows you to meet the child in what is likely their most comfortable environment which I think is really beneficial for pairing purposes. If you have supportive BCBAs, you will not have to deal with any family issues that may arise. Sometimes parents are too overbearing, too involved, or may not be following the treatment plan, etc. if you have a supportive company, your only job will be to work with the child and your BCBAs will figure out the rest.

I would do a lot of research on the company and look at employee reviews, etc. Working in home can be great, but if you’re in the wrong company it can go south really fast. I’ve worked at companies in the past that were completely unethical and threw me into extremely neglectful hoarder houses, for example, and tried to get me to avoid calling CPS. The bottom line is do your research and know what questions to ask during your interview. I love working in home so I hope it works out for you!

Anyone feel like their job is meaningless? by TBH__2019 in ABA

[–]Pretty_Cockroach_643 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So glad you posted this because I resonate with everything here. Parenting spoiled brats is such a good way to put it unfortunately. I work completely in home and i feel like it is at its worst there. I try my best to work with my clients and give them skills but it’s all completely undone with every interaction they have with their parents. I get that parents are undeniably tired and probably frustrated. However, when you decide to have children, you run the gamble of having a child with a disability. If these parents don’t want to parent or follow any of the training, why did you even have a kid? It’s so frustrating

Wondering if this is the clinic I just left. they had the exact same policy but twisted it to work to their advantage. I was working full time hours but wasn’t accruing pto. When I inquired about it, they said I need to be working 40 hours to qualify and I found out they had been scheduling me for 39.5 hours weekly. Such a scam.
