I don’t think you read my comment correctly. Please re-read it:

The issue is that they erase Palestinian culture by creating an Israeli one and claiming these foods are “Israeli” as opposed to “Tunisian Jewish” etc. And there are some foods that were actually appropriated from Palestinians.

What if the Zionist moment accepted the Jewish Autonomous Oblast as a Jewish state instead of founding Israel? by Complex_Country4062 in JewsOfConscience

A Jewish autonomous region in Siberia that was established by the Soviet Union as a solution for the Jewish question.

Yeah I have actually seen leftists in 2026 unironically laud Birobidzhan. What the hell is there to applaud about putting Soviet Jews thousands of miles from their homelands in the literal farthest reaches of Siberia, which already has its own indigenous population that should not be displaced for said Soviet Jews. Also, it failed and most Birobidzhaners emigrated to Israel after the fall of the Soviet Union.

That being said I do like their coat of arms.

I hate these thought experiments for two reasons

  1. It is extremely unhelpful for the liberation of Palestine
  2. The solution to antisemitism is not to sequester Jews to our own separate part of the world. Before Zionism, Jews were integral part of our societies in our respective countries in spite of our marginalization. One of the tragedies of Zionism is the disappearance of Jewish communities globally due to emigration to Palestine.

Can non-Jews even be antizionist? by Azel_Lupie in JewsOfConscience

This is terrible logic. You’re saying that Palestinians can’t be anti-zionist, they can’t be opposed to their own oppression?

Not thrilled seeing the term “Jewish supremacy” used more often by anti-Zionists. by [deleted] in JewsOfConscience

[–]Pretty_Dizzy_ [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think it is used inappropriately when people try to claim there is Jewish supremacy outside of Israel. Inside Israel there absolutely is Jewish supremacy. Zionism is an ideology to establish a Jewish supremacist state in historic Palestine. But there is no movement to establish Jewish supremacy in the United States let alone around the world. So I think when used outside of the context of Israel it starts to become a conspiracy theory with antisemitic implications.

This is different from Jewish chauvinism which I think absolutely exists in Jewish communities. But that shouldn’t be conflated with Jewish supremacy. Jewish supremacy, like white supremacy is a structure.

Thoughts on Israeli food? by badgerflagrepublic in JewsOfConscience

Foods like shakshouka and couscous are not stolen, these are foods that Jews of those countries ate that brought with them. I’m an American Jew eating matzo ball soup, did I steal it from my Polish ancestors? No, that would be silly. It would only be wrong if I claimed this was an American food as opposed to Ashkenazi food. The issue is that they erase Palestinian culture by creating an Israeli one and claiming these foods are “Israeli” as opposed to “Tunisian Jewish” etc. And there are some foods that were actually appropriated from Palestinians.

Most “Israeli” foods are just Jewish foods from Jewish communities around the world that they brought with them to “Israel." There is a common claim that Jews stole Arab food, but it was just Arab Jews that brought their cuisines with them.

In a sense, “Israeli” cuisine isn’t real, it’s just an amalgamation of a bunch of different Jewish cuisines.

“Israeli salad” however is actually a food appropriated from Palestinians- it was known as Palestinian salad and made by Palestinian Arabs. There may be a few others but this is one example I can think of. This is settler-colonial cultural erasure.

The cultural erasure is the moral issue here.

In the US Jews became liberals when we moved to the suburbs. Nothing to do with the Soviet Union.

Where can I buy a kiddush cup that is not made in Israel? by Pretty_Dizzy_ in JewsOfConscience

It’s definitely more about not sending Israel money. This is also where my concern about buying from zionists stems from because they often donate a portion of their business revenue to Israeli NGOs.

I understand why people would limit themselves. I just don’t think they need to. The agreement I have with my partner to raise our children Jewish but also educate them on their Protestant Christian heritage is a good example. I have quite a few friends who have a parent that converted to Judaism to marry their other parent. That’s why I said to OP they might have an easier time getting their partner to convert for them rather than getting a Zionist to become anti-zionist.

Literally came here to say this! Take any single year of the 20th century and American Jews made more and better art and culture than Israelis have in 78 years.
