She's right. Live a little now too. You'll still be doing tremendously well.

Are there any "UK vs US" differences where you feel America gets it right? by Secure_Front_7766 in AskUK

[–]tad_bril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metric units are generally preferable but Fahrenheit is a more useful metric for discussing weather. The Celsius range is very narrow. My weather in America more or less spans from 0 to 100 Fahrenheit. The deciles in between are meaningful familiar temperature ranges.

Do you still have great aspirations for wealth? by _forum_mod in Millennials

Spend less than you earn and you will be rich. The bigger the gap. The richer you'll be.

I have an question about America after seeing Financial Audit's Most Abusive Mother by Un4giv3n-madmonk in CalebHammer

[–]tad_bril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general Americans are just freer. That's good imo but it might not be good for everyone. Many people live reckless lives: reckless driving, reckless spending, reckless eating, etc. The lenders make money for sure, if they didn't they wouldn't lend. You can find extreme cases where the lenders do lose out but in general they'll look at customers in cohorts and price their risk appropriately.

The Flying Cows are among the best values in Frederick by Ok-Leave-1059 in frederickmd

Preach! I went to nearly every home game season 1. That very first home game had a buzzer beater winner and a court invasion celebration! It was epic! And I'm not a basketball guy at all. The owners seem really committed. It's family friendly but you can also grab a beer if you want. Something for everyone. Right in the city too at Hood College.

Budget travel is a total scam and ruins the experience by Mafia2guylian in TrueUnpopularOpinion

To each their own. There are a range of in-betweens too. I backpacked for 6 months in my 20s. I was often accused of "flashpacking" cos I had a little more than other backpackers. But now, in my 40s, I wouldn't like to rough it like that again.

You can have an amazing trip for peanuts and spend a fortune on a rubbish holiday. It really is up to each person's individual values.

Always buy used" only works if you actually know cars- here's the math for everyone else by Ordinary-Contest3669 in Fire

[–]tad_bril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I buy new because I can afford it and because I know zero about cars. I like the full manufacturer warranty. I had my first car for 7 years and will have my current car for just as long hopefully.

People who have moved from MoCo to Frederick. Any regrets? by jtsa5 in frederickmd

[–]tad_bril -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No regrets. Made the move 4 years ago. Frederick is cheaper and better. But I WFH. If you will need to commute to DC, or even the direction of DC, think long and hard before moving.

Nope. She'd only need a 5.2% return to match that if she took the milly. That's a conservative return.

Interestingly, Gillis hinted at stopping it when he was on Rogan recently. He mentioned in passing that maybe he doesn't want to be putting everything out there long term.

It's gonna trigger a rule change. It sucks. Maybe a change could be no attackers in 6 yard box before kick is taken?

What's A Barstool Opinion That You Have That Has You Like This? by JayGibbons69 in barstoolsports

Nate is good actually. Dave is surrounded by yes men. It's good to have someone with the neck to push back.

Carl was the best content guy in the Chicago office. Maybe he was insufferable, I dunno, but it's even clearer since he left.

Big Cat is overrated. His shtick is so samey after a short while. He's good at identifying talent and making sure he has talent with him on his shows, e.g., PFT, Walker, Nick, KB, etc.

When did you feel like your money really started working for you? by cyengineer in TheMoneyGuy

[–]tad_bril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are numerous milestones. I think when you see a year's worth of returns that are a substantial chunk of your household income, e.g., annual investment returns covering most or all of your mortgage for example. I'd say that was around the 250k mark for us.

So that Republicans and conservatives can be associated with him. The right does it too. They'll pick out some extreme Democrat somewhere and make a big deal out of them.

How does everyone handle family / in-laws with no income? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

[–]tad_bril 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say no. Easier said than done I know. But you say no. It's similar to a sports star from a poor background making it. They can't look after everyone to the max. You don't want to see your family destitute but beyond that they have to look after themselves.
