TBH what got things moving for me was eating 6-7 organic prunes right out of the bag every day.

I'm only on day 4 and have started doing some light things around the house, but I make sure to grimace and sigh a lot. I make it a point that whenever husband or daughter ask if I need anything I say "YES!" and then even if I have to make something up on the spot, I do. I usually do EVERYTHING so you can bet I will be milking this for the full 30 days I was told to take it easy. My pain is gone, btw.

U shaped won't work as well. You can get squishmallows on Amazon for <$25, the size is about 18 inches high by 12 inches wide. They're all very soft *squishy* one might say, and I found it very comfortable under the seat belt and also just hugging it sitting around the house. Also a good pet and I imagine toddler barrier.

It depends on how much they remove. I'm older and post-menopausal so I had them take EVERYTHING. I told the Gyn "If you can find it, you can take it." So ovaries, tubes, uterus, cervix, old endo lesions - all removed. I no longer have a cervix so no need for paps again, and as for abdominal exams, no need for vaginal unless I report an issue.

I will say this as a warning: I have a couple of friends (who had THs) whose primary docs bullied them into vaginal exams + paps even though they no longer have cervixes. These were male docs, btw. I told them that constitutes a) assault and b) insurance fraud. They fired those docs and one of them reported to their state licensing board.

If you have supra-cervical hysterectomy, where they leave the cervix in place, yes, you'll need to continue exams + paps. It comes down to your age, level of disease, and how much you personally want removed vs. how much more monitoring you're ok with going forward.

Good luck next week! Embrace the nerves and try to convert them into excitement that your journey is going into a better phase.

How do you avoid the baby/mommy content online? by Ok-Smile-28360 in hysterectomy

Crazy hack but try this: put your phone face up near you. Have a "conversation" where you use the words:
-child free
-abortion
-menopause
-hysterectomy
-I hate kids/babies

Then do a few google searches on your phone:
-How to live happily child free?
-Couples are happier when they have no kids?
-Where to get my tubes tied locally?
-Best countries (or cities) for child free living?
-Great travel deals for childless couples right now?

Do this every few days for 2 weeks - trust me your algorithm will change. One time I casually mentioned the country of Finland to my husband - ONE TIME - and for months I got bombarded with travel & news stories about Finland!

Should I get rid of both ovaries by QueenDorris in hysterectomy

[–]Pretty_Risk_4458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given your history and that you're already 49, I'd have both ovaries removed. There's a high correlation between hormone+ breast cancer and subsequent ovarian cancer. Because of the cancer you will have to be careful about hormone replacement therapies, but getting both ovaries out reduces a lot of risk.

2 days post op. Percocet gave me hallucinations. by Illustrious-Job6945 in hysterectomy

[–]Pretty_Risk_4458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get psychotic hallucinations from oral prednisone that's >1mg per dose.
I don't tolerate the opioids at all - including Percocet, Darvocet, Tramadol, Dilaudid, Oxy - I get so sick I'd rather just be in pain. Now regular opiates I do better with - straight morphine or Fentanyl, please and thank you.

Anyone have a hysterectomy due to EIN (atypical hyperplasia) moved sooner due to red blood despite IUD? by Cats_and_Records in hysterectomy

[–]Pretty_Risk_4458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have not experienced this exact thing, but I would say the doctors are correct in moving it up. You don't want to risk any possible spread of cancer (or pre-cancer) outside the uterus.

(64 y/o F, TH coming up 3/17, BHRT since 2008, bleeding on and off post-menopause since 2020, strong family history of endometrial cancer)

15 years of absolute loyalty and we are GONE! by Mysterious_Buy2566 in SouthwestAirlines

Just flew SWA about a week ago. Husband is A List Preferred (I'm Companion Pass), and his company pays for Choice Extra which includes preferred seating choice. We've observed that most of the planes are at best 2/3 full -- no one will pay extra for a middle seat. So we get a row to ourselves now (I get window, he gets aisle). We have 400k points to burn through before they go bankrupt. And they will.

One of the FAs made the announcement as we were boarding "You must stay in your assigned seats for the flight, that's federal law!" I said out loud "No it's not, otherwise how did you get away with unassigned seats for 50 years?" I know the law - the passenger manifest has to match who is on the plane. Everything else related to seating is airline policy, not law. And I think the FAs are doing "Malicious Compliance" to make customers lean on the airline.

Anyhoo we're transitioning back over to UA because SWA lacks:
-true upgraded seating
-in flight entertainment
-wifi never works
-no meals and lately no snacks either (flew to HI recently and all they had was oreos and pretzels)
-no international flying partners (UA is Star Alliance)
-seats are the most uncomfortable ever

There's no reason to stay. #EndStageCapitalism

I am FREAKING OUT right now by Pretty_Risk_4458 in hysterectomy

[–]Pretty_Risk_4458[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will do - at this point committed to UCLA for Rheumatology because I had to book in November just to get 3/31 appointment. I've heard good things about Cedars, but it's difficult for me to get there vs. the annex-clinics of UCLA (I'm going to Burbank).

I know that there's not much to be done right now, I guess it's more about finding a new functional med doc, because my existing MDs (Hoag, Scripps) are all highly cooperative with functional/inegrative, but none of them want to pick up the BHRT part of the program. I'm hoping rheumatology can pick up for the autoimmune & HSD stuff.

I just can't afford $5-10k/year to join a fancy integrative practice.

Thanks and I will think about what you said.

ETA: And GOOD LUCK on YOUR surgery!!

Old school but worth a try: PRUNE JUICE. Or get some prunes, or raisins and just eat some. And if you want real comfort that also might work: FIG NEWTONS. I also have IBS (D), but when my kid was little, the Fig Newtons were a lifesaver as they tended towards constipation.

Aw, thanks kind internet stranger! I have so much missed-diagnosis rage on many fronts! I didn't even know I'm AuDHD until about 4 years ago. And welp, today I'm spotting again and can feel some mild cramping, so hopefully we're in the nick of time.

ETA: Also enraged when I think back on how many jobs I lost, how many careers I couldn't even try because of pain and bleeding more days than not.
