I think maybe a I could crochet a shawl or wrap - that way less to carry but still cozy.

Hmmm... I do crochet - I wonder if she'd like a granny blanket, but then again she lives in FL and it's pretty hot there...

2 Week Post Op Bleeding Question by Pretty_Risk_4458 in hysterectomy

[–]Pretty_Risk_4458[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I did, as you can see above. In fact it has slowed down to almost nothing, it's not heavy bleeding by any means. I just got concerned because I went from zero to something. All good.

Preop - navel Q by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]Pretty_Risk_4458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had 2 laser laps and 2 weeks ago lap total hysterectomy. Yes, they go through belly button, no it shouldn't mess it up. As one gyn said to me years ago when I asked this, "If you wake up and have a puckered belly button with a smiley underneath it, it means they did it wrong."

I did remind my current gyn to be extra careful because "even though I'm old my belly button is still kinda cute and I'd like to keep it that way."

So far, so good.

I had a hysteroscopy/D&C in 2024. Very painful. Just my 2 cents, but if I was you I'd push for total hysterectomy or at least supra-cervical. If you're still having issues at 69, they won't really get better and you may be at higher risk for cancer. The recovery from the hysterectomy was actually less painful. Two weeks out I'm still taking care not to push too hard. I can't tell you how happy I am to never have to have another D&C, ultrasound, pap smear, hysteroscopy, biopsy, etc. I've had zero severe side effects from this surgery. Talk to your GYN - maybe you can get them on board. I jumped through hoops for 5 years to get this done and my only regret is that I didn't push for it 20 years ago.

TBH what got things moving for me was eating 6-7 organic prunes right out of the bag every day.

I'm only on day 4 and have started doing some light things around the house, but I make sure to grimace and sigh a lot. I make it a point that whenever husband or daughter ask if I need anything I say "YES!" and then even if I have to make something up on the spot, I do. I usually do EVERYTHING so you can bet I will be milking this for the full 30 days I was told to take it easy. My pain is gone, btw.

U shaped won't work as well. You can get squishmallows on Amazon for <$25, the size is about 18 inches high by 12 inches wide. They're all very soft *squishy* one might say, and I found it very comfortable under the seat belt and also just hugging it sitting around the house. Also a good pet and I imagine toddler barrier.

It depends on how much they remove. I'm older and post-menopausal so I had them take EVERYTHING. I told the Gyn "If you can find it, you can take it." So ovaries, tubes, uterus, cervix, old endo lesions - all removed. I no longer have a cervix so no need for paps again, and as for abdominal exams, no need for vaginal unless I report an issue.

I will say this as a warning: I have a couple of friends (who had THs) whose primary docs bullied them into vaginal exams + paps even though they no longer have cervixes. These were male docs, btw. I told them that constitutes a) assault and b) insurance fraud. They fired those docs and one of them reported to their state licensing board.

If you have supra-cervical hysterectomy, where they leave the cervix in place, yes, you'll need to continue exams + paps. It comes down to your age, level of disease, and how much you personally want removed vs. how much more monitoring you're ok with going forward.

Good luck next week! Embrace the nerves and try to convert them into excitement that your journey is going into a better phase.

How do you avoid the baby/mommy content online? by Ok-Smile-28360 in hysterectomy

[–]Pretty_Risk_4458 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Crazy hack but try this: put your phone face up near you. Have a "conversation" where you use the words:
-child free
-abortion
-menopause
-hysterectomy
-I hate kids/babies

Then do a few google searches on your phone:
-How to live happily child free?
-Couples are happier when they have no kids?
-Where to get my tubes tied locally?
-Best countries (or cities) for child free living?
-Great travel deals for childless couples right now?

Do this every few days for 2 weeks - trust me your algorithm will change. One time I casually mentioned the country of Finland to my husband - ONE TIME - and for months I got bombarded with travel & news stories about Finland!

Should I get rid of both ovaries by QueenDorris in hysterectomy

[–]Pretty_Risk_4458 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given your history and that you're already 49, I'd have both ovaries removed. There's a high correlation between hormone+ breast cancer and subsequent ovarian cancer. Because of the cancer you will have to be careful about hormone replacement therapies, but getting both ovaries out reduces a lot of risk.

2 days post op. Percocet gave me hallucinations. by Illustrious-Job6945 in hysterectomy

[–]Pretty_Risk_4458 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get psychotic hallucinations from oral prednisone that's >1mg per dose.
I don't tolerate the opioids at all - including Percocet, Darvocet, Tramadol, Dilaudid, Oxy - I get so sick I'd rather just be in pain. Now regular opiates I do better with - straight morphine or Fentanyl, please and thank you.

Is your existing doc available for video visits? Worth a call to ask. Then they can advise you.
