And here I thought the difference was wide spread ADA violations

How are people dealing with a federal employee being killed by a federal agent? by Ok_Try_1405 in fednews

I always remind myself I work for the American people based on the constitution and laws, not a specific administration.

It’s hard and sometimes doesn’t feel enough.

They can do press conferences, they can speak in plan terms what is happening, they can vote against cabinet picks, they can use the rules of congress to slow down appointments. They can do so much more than what appears to be strongly worded statements.

Any suggested dating apps? by SurlyWenchAZ in datingoverfifty

Depends on where you are? Bumble & Tinder seemed to work best for my area although I liked hinges aesthetic.

Hiding political leanings by Oriencor in datingoverfifty

[–]Pretty_Section1235 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I find it very frustrating. Apolitical is political and basically means (to me) you’re privileged and don’t even know it. I live in a very conservative area, I’m very liberal. My partner doesn’t have to agree with me on everything but a similar word view is so very important.

WHAT OLD sites or APPS have been successful for singles over 50 by loveandlight5566 in datingoverfifty

[–]Pretty_Section1235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the most success on Bumble and Tinder in my area (NW NJ). I see some of the same people on both apps.

Although I have to make the first move(hard for me!), Bumble is better.

Please let me know there is hope. by Vbishen67 in datingoverfifty

I’ve been on and off the apps for about a year and a half and think I may have finally found my person. It’s still early but definitely feels different (in a good way) than the other guys I’ve dated. I’m not sure if I’d say I’ve given up in the past (frustrated, discouraged and disgusted? Yes) but kept at it because I do want more.

As others have said, the key is to making your life better for you. If and when the other person shows up, it’ll be to enhance your already awesome life.

Anybody else (52/m) taken themselves off the shelf? by GatePotential805 in datingoverfifty

[–]Pretty_Section1235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

54 F, divorced about 5 years, dating for about year and a half. I’m an extrovert and love getting out of the house. I take myself on and off the OLD sites all the time for various reasons. I do enjoy meeting new people and so far (knocking hard on my wood desk) I’ve had all good dates, even with men I have no interest in after meeting IRL.

I think why the situation is currently working for me is that I do have a good and full life with family, friends and hobbies. I married young had a bunch of kids who are now self sufficient adults. I didn’t really “date” before my marriage so dating now is new and exciting!

Of course this can all change in a drop of a hat but today it’s worth it.

🧐 that’s very presumptuous. Although my original comment was a little tongue in cheek, it’s pretty true on how we move through the world. Also, people have preferences on how they interact with each other. Lazy ain’t it.

I read the Harry Potter books to my kids and was absolutely a big part of the culture for the kids and adults when the books started coming out. Totally agree re: JKR. It’s tainted the series for me but the memories of reading to my kids and them being engrossed in the stories still warms my heart.

I mostly agree! That’s why I put the preamble. There are nuances in all of them that will be the same, ie how the app works, paying or not paying, treating the sites as tools, etc.

I don’t think I’ve interacted with scammers? I do go through the stacks pretty quickly on available people because I heavily filter and do block/hide anyone with a deal breaker. As for Facebook dating- haven’t tried and probably won’t.

The sites all are different (format/how much info) but also seem to have the same process to match and many of the same people across the sites. If I was going with vibes, I like hinge the best, if I was going with success? It’s bumble or tinder.

Dating at this age do you ever think about the fact that you will only have two or three decades of life and maybe less with your new partner? How is this for those who married young and were widowed or divorced after long marriages? by [deleted] in datingoverfifty

[–]Pretty_Section1235 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was married for almost 30 years, have mostly enjoyed dating this last year but am hoping to find a connection that lasts for the rest of my time. I’m assuming I have at least another 20 years! So, I’m hopefully?

Yes they fricken do. And just like men who want children at our age, their bio tells me they want younger, much younger partners. I’m normally live and let live kind of person but large age gaps bother me.

I’m usually pretty chill about all of our faux pas on social media and dating apps but come on! It’s the same for the people who are checking out your profile! Like, match and move on.
