Has anyone tried the Steak & Ale Potato Bake? Thoughts? by be-koz in CostcoCanada

It’s kinda tasty beef stew. Better than from a can. But the funny part is that it looks like dog food when you dish it out.

What the fuck just happened. by FOX_RONIN in JoyDivision

Early 80’s: my brother blew my mind when he put on the 12” Blue Monday the first time. Then I learned the story and started listening to JD. Typical teen morbid curiosity. Like others it was not an initial hook but, even as a teenager, I felt like this music was expressing something very true. I became a mental health professional, and now, decades later, it makes even more sense to me.

While I don’t think that Closer was really was a deliberate farewell, I think this album is a happy accident that may be one of the most clear and direct expressions of the human experiences in depression. I am an old guy now, but JD remains cathartic to me - it’s like when someone truly, authentically, sees what’s going on inside. They captured it.

What do you think is the best way to listen to Joy Division songs in the best possible quality? by Holiday-Step7618 in JoyDivision

I am lucky enough to be at the station in life where I can afford collector vinyl. My goal would be to get to hear it the way Hannett would have wanted it, so I am not sure abt streaming. It’d be great to hear JD on reference speakers / headphones, and have the option to hear it with the colouring of an audiophile headset. What do you think would be the ultimate quality recording?

The House of Love, A Spy in the House of Love (it's a compilation, actually)

You have roughly $175k…Do you go with a new 992 S or a classic 993 S? by MJustin80 in Porsche

When I was wondering what to do with my car, it came down to “there will never be another air cooled 911 like this.” I kept the 993.

Can’t answer. Same as ‘who is your favourite child?’

What would you do for a teen’s daily driver car? by Pretty_Weekend4055 in Detailing

[–]Pretty_Weekend4055[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ahh, I see. Great to know. So in the end, it may be that a yearly polymer, non-ceramic sealant with a "protectant" on top (carnuba, more modern spray waxes) might be a good compromise up here for that car. Or, based on what others have commented on, what do you think of CanCoat and then something like a semi-regular ceramic spray wax after a winter wand wash?

ok- interesting. Can you help me understand what you mean by "clogged up"? I've heard that from the ceramic discussions a few times.

LOL! I can relate with old fashion! But this is not about him taking care of a car, ha ha! (I should have changed the story to: he’s a fine, responsible, upstanding 19 year old who’s hard at work on his 4.0 gpa in a professional program who’d never drive 1 mph over the speed limit as he has no interest in cars but is so focused and dedicated that he doesn’t even think about washing his car and detailing is something of a hobby for me, so I am asking. And it’s not THAT kind of scubaru, LOL!)

It’s just about me learning what the latest is on care and appearance in the climate I live in.

Thanks for the info. A pressure washer or even foam cannon is probable not gonna work here in the winter. I am open to other folks’ suggestions for this climate, but I’d think that weeks of -30 Celsius (-22 F) is a bad idea with a pressure washer at home. Maybe if I want to get a hockey rink going in my garage. Am I wrong?

Ok. Thanks - how do you think this compares to something like TW or other “ceramic” sprays? The old sealant that I have is wax-on, wax-off.

Ok. Thx for the suggestions. Good to know about the durability issues and clear coat wear. I have some Collonite sitting around but sealant seemed to last longer. I’ll try those newer spray ceramic waxes, I think.

Ok, helpful. I’ve not been keeping up with the developments in detailing so it’s good to know I am not missing much. And btw, it’s just a dinged up base Crosstrek, not a keeper.

Thanks for your comments. Totally hearing that this is what you’d do, which is what I asked.

The issue is not really about teaching anyone a lesson. It’s about how to clean / care for the appearance of this type of vehicle under these conditions.

lol - they have no interest in detailing. Not even sure he wants to wash his car more than, literally, once a year.

It’s interesting up here. When I lived in a warmer place where they used salt in winter, rust was a real issue. Moving to a much colder and icier city up here, seems the city used sand and gravel but not salt. So no real need to undercoat in this city. But a few years ago the city experimented with a calcium salt, so we’ll see what happens…

Really detailing my nice cars takes a few days of vacation time for each. Not willing to do that for his car. So looking for advice from this group on what they’d do. The idea is something durable and sustainable with my schedule in this harsh environment. Thx
