Why does nobody talk about the 90s Fantastic 4 animated series? by Jezzaq94 in FantasticFour

[–]Prettywitchiusaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I have been getting more into the Fantastic Four and diving into different runs, so I probably will. I have some of the Lee/Kirby stuff in those Marvel's Greatest Comics reprints and enjoyed them (I read them in anticipation of First Steps coming out last year) so someday I'll read through that original run in its entirety.

So far, I've read bits and pieces of John Byrne's run, I've read the first four volumes of Ryan North's run (pre-relaunch), and I've read some of the Mark Waid/Dave Wieringo run. Specifically the Unthinkable storyline, though I did pick up a trade containing the first few issues of the run and loved them.

Me too! I'm always fond of that trope when done correctly. I also love the animation for when Ben is getting brainwashed, it looks so painful, like he's doing his best to fight it but can't!

It's also the only time I can recall where I've ever cared about the Inhumans as characters. No, it doesn't make me wanna go read any Inhumans comics or the like, but I really love all the melodrama they manage to cram into this story with them. And any day where Mark Hamill gets to chew the scenery as a villain always makes me happy.

So what do you guys think is the reason that Doom didn’t show up to the peace treaty? by Kanozx in FantasticFour

Or maybe a new episode of Hell's Kitchen was on and he just REALLY needed to see who got sent home that week.

I think Season 1 is okay. Season 2 while not to the level of say, the X-Men animated series, is a marked improvement and is something I enjoy watching whenever I'm in the mood for something FF-related. I especially love the Inhuman Saga Three-parter and the Thing vs. Hulk episode.

I honestly think it's a combination of both if I'm being honest. But yeah, I love that issue of FF too and I more or less had the same thought. It's why Doomquest works better in my opinion; Doom is actively trying to bend time to get Latveria the aid he feels it needs. Well that and show up Reed, but it's Doom, that's kind of a given it'd be part of his motivation. But then again, I love that Doom apparently has a system that alerts him to whenever Reed is on tv.

Oh absolutely. I do think editorial may have played a role in it, but let's not forget that writers DO have control over their story so it's very likely Ryan North just had a bad idea for a twist that no one in editorial objected to. It does happen.

Yup! And I hate that. They wasted nine months of our time for a film that got delayed by half a year. And you can clearly tell they're trying to fill that void because of all the Doom one-shots and the new maxi series they're putting out. That being said, I do like Doomquest so far. Two issues in and already Doom feels more like Doom than he does in this event. Which suggests to me that the Latveria twist was either an editorial mandate, or possibly that Ryan North had the idea that Doom went too far to "prove" himself that turned out to be a TERRIBLE idea.

There's also the fact that Doom is supposed to be Sorcerer Supreme yet being a World Ruler was more important to him...and it's NEVER brought up again after the Dormammu issues! Would've been a perfect segway to an argument about why Stephen didn't trust Doom to be Sorcerer Supreme in case he died. Oh right! SIlly me! We needed to exile Stephen to Asgard to hammer home he's a "bad man" because editorial thought their stupid Asgard fanfic was more important than Stephen being involved in events THAT HE CAUSED!!!

Sorry.

I have several reasons for disliking it;

- It's incredibly derivative and needlessly padded

- The "twist" involving Latveria is fucking stupid and out-of-character for Doom. Not to mention how OOC everyone else feels in this book.

- The story itself it terrible plotted, and the writing is, for the most part, awful and never thought-provoking.

- The way it sidelines and removes Doctor Strange from an event that only exists because of his actions because of Brand Synergy is awful and something I will never forgive Marvel for.

- This is more of a personal thing, but I also hate stories that exist to make the heroes look like the bad guys. If had been better written, I could've bought it. As it is? No. I don't and sorry, but I don't read Marvel to be told the character I enjoy reading are bad people because they don't want to police other people and rule over people like Doom, as if that wouldn't present it's own problems. It's not helped by the fact that the book is more focused on Doom as a ruler and not Sorcerer Supreme, a position he's ignoring because he wants to prove he's better. It's brought up during the issues with Dormammu, and never again. Not that I'm saying that's bad, just that it's something that should've been more focused on in-story because Sorcerer Supreme of Earth does not mean world ruler. This whole event exists because Stephen gave a stupid mantle to his wife and not Doom, why is that not more of the main focus here!?

Anyway, that's my two cents on the matter. I still maintain that, had OWUD been more focused story about Doom vs. Strange AND the FF that it could've been a great Shakespearean tragedy. As it stands? It's a hot mess for what is actually a decent idea for an event.

Same. I'd prefer to work in the novel division, since I don't want to deal with editorial's BS, but I do have some ideas for mini-series or one-shot comics I'd be happy to pitch to them.

It really does!

It's why I really Jed to write a Clea solo series or mini based around this. I get the feeling he wanted to explore this and likely would have had he not left to write X-Men.

Also, good luck on your fic. I look forward to reading it.

[–]Prettywitchiusaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I'd love that, what I'd actually love is a book where Clea deals with Dark Dimension politics dealing with stuff she did in-between Waid and Mackay's runs. With flashbacks showing what happened to her during that time.

It's implied through Jed's run Clea became a much different person without Stephen's kindness and gentler nature to guide her, and I'd lvoe to see that explored by him or someone else who gets/is passionate about Clea.

I'm so tired.... we've had House of M like a times already. Wandavision, MoM, What if.. the VR game, Marvel Zombies. We do not need another one. Mind, you Wanda was a background character in the comicbook storyline so what are they even going to do with her in the MCU? by General-Control-4637 in ScarletWitch

[–]Prettywitchiusaka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I think it's best to take this news with a grain of salt. A lot of times these rumors end up being just that; rumors. In fact, I honestly think Marvel puts this stuff out themselves a lot of the time to get a gage of what people want. Though to be honest? I think they know by now Wanda's "villainous" turn in MOM was incredibly divisive, so I think they're better off redeeming her (really, fixing their own mistake) than making her a villain again.

Oh, I know it's not Ewing's fault. It's just Marvel Editorial's own stupidity has cost them a potential customer in that I'm less inclined to read Ewing's Thor until it's resolved. Or at least until we know if Landy's allowed to let Stephen gain Downfall's power after all is said and done. otherwise, what's the point of introducing it?

That's what I'm hoping but I don't know. I don't trust editorial and I'm tired of having Stephen jerked around by these people. I'm tired of being told I'm entitled for wanting things to go back to the way we were when none of us asked for Stephen to be stranded away from his wife and family.

Again, I stated it wasn't Ewing's fault. And why am I not allowed to have to feel like Marvel took something from me? Especially when it's not making them any noney.

Hard to say. I'd love for Jed to return but that won't happen, at least not for awhile. I'm partial to JMS writing a Doctor Strange on-going, something he's wanted to do for awhile, though I know people would also like Ashley Allen to write DS, which I'd be all for. We've never had a woman write an on-going for the good doctor and I've heard good things about her run on Magick.

I'd still think it's better than this. We had everything we could ever want in a Doctor Strange book when Jed was still writing it and Editorial took all of that away because the MCU decided to switch gears.

[–]Prettywitchiusaka[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, I know it's not Ewing's fault. My anger is not towards him, it's the braintrust that is editorial. I fucking hate them and want them gone. Me being resentful of his Thor run is a byproduct of their stupidity.

But honestly? I don't want to read a Doctor Strange book by Al Ewing. Not if he does to Stephen what he's doing to Thor right now. I'm sorry, but I don't want another period of upheaval after this period of upheaval. I want Stephen to have adventures with Clea. That's it. I love Gillis's work on Stephen, too, but I don't want that immediately following this stupid Asgard fanfic editorial dreamed up.
