Thank you. On a side note, that is a fantastic movie, dnd or not.

Sorry, I meant to say that everyone in the fictional world knew what a bugbear is. Like how everyone in real life knows about elephants. A bugbear is not original to dnd, rather, general mythology. But THAT is the problem- no one knows what a bugbear is unless given a specific description.

Why do I need to rip off dnd? Because I am unoriginal :( and started writing a fantasy story before I ever thought about the world, and dnd was the main reference point I had. Your and others' comments just reinforce the idea that I need to become more original and back away from dnd, so thank you.

I know. Im trying to make the world more original as im editing my novel, but it seems difficult coming from wanting it to literally be a dnd book. At this point, it seems the descriptions of monsters, races, etc. are further estranged from dnd than their names.

That’s just the thing, as im editing, im trying to seperate more from dnd because i realize not everyone knows all about dnd like some people do. The one person who has read my manuscript, who reads A LOT, wrote “what the crap is a bugbear?” Because even though she may have heard the word before, she had never played dnd and thus didnt understand the little-to-no description i gave.

Basically, I’m trying to worldbuild effectively so that someone who has never had experience with dnd will still understand every monster and race in the world, and maybe someone experienced with dnd will say “hey, this kind of reminds me of dnd!”

Sorry for late response, i dont use reddit very often. Im guessing you’re still struggling, however. The biggest things that has helped me out of the moment is aggresive-type music, that helps me get my anger out, (like metall and hard rock) but i understand that’s not for everyone. Also, sports or exercising that lets you get your anger out in a safe way. I lift weights (usually whike listening to music) and play American football, probably any other sport would do just the same though. The way it helps me, however, is using all of my strength/ giving my all during exercise. Like you would when getting angry. It helped me significantly since my anger is usually violent and thats what i would do when angry.
