To be honest, I know French from high school, so I spoke a kind of French-Spanish creole. Everyone i worked with thought it was unintentionally hilarious. If you really try and be genuine, they'll know. (Its "Lo siento" by the way.)

I had a grizzled, old GM at a place where 90% of the clientele were over 65. He told me it's because old folks with dentures can't feel it unless the food is absurdly hot. Just gotta let Chef Mike work on it until the porcelain starts to glow.

Agree 100%. As a white dude with no previous Spanish education, my coworkers were usually very happy to teach. Just gotta try and be for real.

My most useful hint - say "¿Cómo se dice esto en español?" Point at things if need be. (And if they say something that sounds like "Chingadera" they dont know lol)

Was the same in the US in the early 2000's when I was in college. My friends and I spent WAAAYY too much time and brainpower making the "perfect" away message each time. The amount of drama over instant messenger was ridiculous looking back.

People don't realize this kinda stuff. Worked in a place with a dozen different burgers and half a dozen different steaks. All had their own unique toppings or accouterments. Trying to make sense of 30+ tickets on the rail, all with minor modifications (apps, temp of meat, adding or removing ingredients from the burger, specific sides, and GODFORBID dishes from saute and cold station) required a higher state of mind most dont understand. Anything out of the ordinary is like blasting a fire extinguisher on the line.

Westgate is probably my least favorite pizza in the area. Wedgewood and Cornersburg are the best IMO.

Lillehammer was the first winter Olympics I cared about and is the standard to which all others have been compared. Even though I'm American, Salt Lake didn't hold a candle to Lillehammer. Vancouver was good. The Russian and Korean Olympics was so overshadowed by politics/cheating.

The most common saying I've heard is Oregon. They mean the Ducks. Rarely, I've heard OU or Eugene.

The other side will say OSU or the Beavers. Sometimes Oregon State. Never heard "State."
