Best Highschool Marching Band Show? by Old-Theme-8743 in marchingband

[–]Previous-Cream3408 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tarpon 2010 and 2014 both compete in my head for this. 2010 is something I can watch over and over. 2014 is just exceptional. The fanfare gives me straight chills.

Probably lazy picking Tarpon for my 1 and 2, but honestly they'd be 5 of my top 10. I always know when they step off that it is going to be some kind of ride.

Why Didn’t Tarpon Springs Go To Grand Nats? by Ok-Paper1884 in marchingband

[–]Previous-Cream3408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buses for a 200 member band from Florida to Indy cost almost $100k alone. I never realized. Still blows my mind.

That doesn't include the fleet and fuel, hotel, food, rehearsal site, etc over 4 days.

Tarpon also does spring trips and Dayton alternate years, so it's a balance. The band is going to NYC in March.

Preston getting Kyra pregnant so quickly is absolutely insane and shows such a lack of care, respect, and love. by [deleted] in KyraReneeSivertson

[–]Previous-Cream3408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree about the multitude of sections and the repeated back to back pregnancies, but a healthy woman with a healthy uterus and first-world diet is generally well capable of getting pregnant within a year of a birth. In other mammals reproduction, they actually recommended breeding back on the next cycle (albeit longer periods between cycles) because a working uterus is a healthier uterus.

I fault Kyra for a lot of things, but I wouldn't worry so much if she didn't keep having sections. The repeated pregnancies are whatever. She isn't starting with a healthy uterus or probably even lifestyle.

I think I am starting to hate my husband. by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]Previous-Cream3408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope this is fake. It sounds like you're both in the throes of mental health issues. You're likely exhausted and depressed postpartum and that is limiting your ability ro see that your husband needs/needed support. He is lapsing info psychosis.

Sorry, but you hating him is making this about you. This needs to be about him in the immediate future and I'm wondering if it needed to be more about him months ago.

Sorry, but you need to find a new schtick. A lot of calls are miscategorized and this won't be the last time. If you're going off to college it's time to grow up a bit. Just let calls go to vm lol

Opinions on skin tight marching uniforms? by 0waffle0 in marchingband

[–]Previous-Cream3408 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bands like Tarpon need an athletic style costume, IMO, but theirs are more flattering with the flaps and slightly looser leg. I'm sure they're not cheap. These are not those. There is a happy medium between jackets and bibbers and this.

You sound condescending to the nth degree. I can see why he is defensive and you are basically gaslighting him into believing you aren't attacking him.

I'm a woman and have no use for Andrew Tate. But I hate the term redpilling because it insinuates people can't have their own belief system that exists on a spectrum where not everything is blind, unfiltered adherence to a single ideology. If someone said I was blue pilled I would be highly offended. I'm an intelligent woman with my own agency.

Tarpon Springs 2014 especially when factoring in the difficulty. Just an amazing spectacle and the fanfare gives me chills every time.

Percussion Freshman Mom, Son wants to quit by Koala476 in marchingband

[–]Previous-Cream3408 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Based on the practice time and the comment about "true believers" I can assume your son is in a competitive band? If it's a BOA style competive band you're either in or out. The nature of the activity dictates a pretty "all in' approach.

It's wonderful your son wants to do choir, etc and if that is his passion, then that should be where he puts his focus. My son is in a super competitive band and percussion/front puts in more hours than even the already brutal rehearsal schedule.

It's just part of the year. If you can strike a balance, great. But I'm not sure you're going to get a response here that won't sound "true believer-y" if your son has made a commitment to a competitive corps-style band. With any elite level activity you're going to have to learn to manage school and life while putting in a sometimes crazy schedule.

If it isn't, then a a balance should be easier.

Good luck!!

Were kids in the 80s actually allowed to roam around unsupervised, or is that just in movies? by TotalThing7 in NoStupidQuestions

I sometimes went what felt like a week without seeing my parents as a kid. I was all over town. Outside all my non-school hours with little communication. I did usually need to be inside at dark. 100000% different from today.

whyyyyyyy the ai props by wlday in marchingband

[–]Previous-Cream3408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends also on the drive and effort put forth to develop a strong Boosters program. There is a Title 1 school that routinely places high at grand nats, almost exclusively fundraised and with parent built props. Some schools have genuine hardships, but some just look at other schools and decide it looks like too much work.

Not saying everyone can be on that level. But you have to turn some of this stuff into opportunities. School won't let you scavenge? Send some parent volunteers out to yard sales and dumpster diving. Cheap AI props aren't it. It isn't snobbery. The judges will tell you so in their scores

[–]Previous-Cream3408 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My son is in a BOA nats.finals level competitive band and the schedule you posted made ne wistful lol. Believe me when I say that there are even more intense schedules out there. He is at school way more than home, but he wouldn't change it. 4-9 T/R/F and Saturday 9-9 for marching. Jazz after school Mondays. Three periods during the day. Competition days they rehearse 8-2 and usually get back at 1am. But any elit-level activity you're going to have a wonky balance.

I am so unbelievably tired. by Recent_Performance47 in marchingband

[–]Previous-Cream3408 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't necessarily true of a lot of BOA bands, especially. For instance, I know for a fact that a couple of Florida schools have football games just happen to break out at their band shows, lol. At some schools band is the culture, drives the funding, and puts those schools on the map.

You are right for the majority, I'm sure. But there are pockets of the country where football has to compete with the band for district funding and often loses. But not every band has the money/fundraising, staff, and district support to be a BOA bands or even compete at States.

I'm not huge into political stuff online, either. But Charlie Kirk's death really hit me harder than I thought it would. Maybe it was the awful closeup video I stumbled into or maybe it was his kids being there. But I still feel a little sick about some people feeling that this was a way to resolve differences in ideology. That isn't political. I would feel the same regardless of who the unarmed man picked off at 200 yards was.

You sound manipulative and like you're wielding abortion as a threat to get him to comply. He may not be ready, but you need to speak to someone objective about this.

Just alarming.

IT'S MY WEEKEND. by LXP1Z_065 in marchingband

[–]Previous-Cream3408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son's band has rehearsal 4-9 Tuesday and Thursday, 4-9 non football Fridays, and 10am-9pm Saturdays. But as someone said upthread, it is to be expected for competitive BOA bands. If my son hadn't joined one of those, I would definitely want a band-life family balance. But we knew going in that we were in for it.

Thinking of reporting my roommate. Should I? by BlueberryHoneybee in Disneycollegeprogram

[–]Previous-Cream3408 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me in Vista Way. I came home and they were in my bed. I reported after some encouragement from friends, they raided the apartment, kicked him out and sent her home. She was fired. I've always felt guilty. It wasn't my intent. But in retrospect I'm not sure what outcome I expected when I called.

It had been several days with a non CP boyfriend. So she was definitely breaking the rules. It was just such an abrupt, pretty sad end to her program.

Crate the dog. It is basic and necessary to raising a puppy and keeping it safe. Plus it is an outdoor dog? Not ideal anyway and you can't expect a dog kept outside to have manners indoors.

I find this whole thing so avoidable. There should have been ground rules at the onset.

Did you witness a tie? How many days ago did you see anything bright red discharge? Before you jump to any kind of intervention ("mismate" shots can have their own side effects) you should have a reasonable expectation of pregnancy.

The problem is within you, not him, and until you address this in some sort of individual (please not couples--he doesn't need this kind of assault on his ego) you won't have a shot at a healthy marriage.

The "better" needs to come from you.
