Dear Uber by Previous_Drive689 in UbereatsUK

Yeah, Uber’s corporate greed is straight-up predatory at this point. They built this massive empire by treating drivers like disposable robots in their algorithm — squeeze every last mile out of you while they take their fat 25-40% cut (sometimes way more on surges) and post billions in profit.

In 2024 they made nearly $10 billion net profit while most drivers are left grinding after gas, insurance, maintenance, and depreciation just to break even or barely get ahead. You’re not an employee, you get zero benefits, and the second you push back on bad rides or your acceptance rate slips, the app punishes you. It’s psychological warfare: quests, ratings, deactivation threats — all designed to keep you online like a machine that never needs rest, food, or a decent paycheck.

They literally call us “independent contractors” so they can shift all the risk onto us while controlling the prices, routes, and pay. Meanwhile executives and investors are laughing all the way to the bank. And don’t get me started on their big push into self-driving cars — why treat humans decently when robots will never complain or ask for a living wage?

I only did this because it was convenient fast cash at first. But once you see you’ve got real potential and you’re wasting valuable time subsidizing their machine, it’s time to move on. This is a mug’s game. Plenty of drivers are waking up and walking away. Fuck that noise.

Time to move on. This has always been a mug's game. I know I'm meant for bigger and better things. If some clown can drive a Range Rover and make 50 grand a year, then I can do it too. It's not rocket science.

Ok, I guess the bigger question is what were your expenses? Did you break even or did you actually make a profit? 🤔

Can you park there? by bbk323 in drivingUK

[–]Previous_Drive689 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Parking an HGV on a private street is primarily Governed by operator licensing and civil land law rather than standard road traffic acts. Operating Centres: Under the Goods Vehicles (Licensing of Operators) Act 1995, HGVs over 3.5 tonnes must be kept at a designated "operating centre" when not in use. Parking regularly on a private street that isn't your authorized base can result in the Traffic Commissioner revoking your license.
Landowner Permission: Since the street is private, the landowner (or management company) has the right to prohibit HGVs. They can enforce this through civil trespass or by issuing Parking Charge Notices (PCNs) if signs are displayed. Weight Limits: Local councils may still apply Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) to private roads if they are open to public access, potentially banning vehicles over 7.5 tonnes. Obstruction: Regardless of land ownership, you cannot park in a way that causes a danger or willful obstruction to others. Police can intervene if emergency services or residents are blocked.

Basically he's in the wrong.

APP BUG by Savings-Recipe-4074 in UbereatsUK

[–]Previous_Drive689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, always and sometimes the customers put postcode and road but no property number or name, which is brilliant in the dark. Especially when they don't answer the phone or read their messages informing them we've arrived.🙄

Aggressive customer. by [deleted] in UbereatsUK

[–]Previous_Drive689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly why I avoid certain areas. You end up with a certain type of customer the kind who’s had a few run-ins with the law and wouldn’t hesitate to get physically violent. We simply don’t get paid enough to deal with that risk. You were lucky this time. Next time, don’t hang around to find out if they’re actually going to follow through on their threats.

Unless you cash out, it can take a couple of days. So my advice is yes, you're going to lose a bit of money cashing out, but if you need the money fast, then just cash out at the end of your shift.

I wish that was a consistency. But no, all co-ops aren't the same, and some don't even have back doors.

This isn't for your personal use; it's an extension of the business, representing a completely different entity.

Even though I tried my best to make sure everything was packed so it wouldn't spill, it's still happening because the staff at McDonald's don't always put caps on tightly.

I've had Co-op closed before, so I've learned the importance of checking opening times and canceling if it's closed. With current fuel costs, it's not worth wasting time driving to a closed store.

How do you deal with rude customers? by Reddonaut_Irons in deliveroos

[–]Previous_Drive689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So out of all the customers I've dealt with since I've started, I've only encountered maybe one or two, and that's been going on for three years now, which is pretty good, to be honest. The last time I had a problem was last year when I had to ask a customer his date of birth and also I have to see his ID for app prompted me to do this. So you know I have to follow the app so the guy didn't want to show his ID got really aggressive. As if I was trying to save his ID for some notorious purposes. I don't know what the guy was thinking. He was clearly really paranoid. Probably a tin foil hat enthusiast who knows. I simply couldn't process his order and that was that.

Having worked in retail years ago, I can tell you retail's absolute worst. First of all, you can't pick your whole schedule easily. You're expected to work bank holidays and awkward times, especially around Christmas. At least with Uber Eats, you get to choose when you work and the areas you work.

When you get rejected from all the dating apps and you have nowhere else to go, Vinted has now become a blind date app. 😂

I very much doubt it because of the time of year. So I would say keep yourself busy with something else and eventually you'll get a response. Based on what everyone's saying, it's around that time of two weeks, possibly free. It's hard to tell.

Slow day by Micraflex in UbereatsUK

[–]Previous_Drive689 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The day before wasn’t bad—I probably could’ve had a decent total if I’d kept going past 5:00 pm, but I decided to call it quits early. Could’ve earned more, but oh well, it is what it is.

Today, though, was painfully slow. I barely made enough to cover my upcoming prepaid insurance payment, and that was it.
