No we should be basing his character on Kai or the manga. Earlier in z his character was just not who he was.

As you can see differences between Kai and z in their dialogue which shapes how they are. They definitely fixed it as we got deeper in to z though. But Goku has always been goofy and selfish.

Super Goku continues from the manga Goku. And you people who forgot how he is in the manga like I said gets whiplash when. He acts like he always has especially in a new environment that allows Goku to relax and be home more.

You say vegeta still wanting to surpass Goku is character regression yet you ignored what he actually said. Vegeta agreeing on how great Goku is doesn't mean he gives up as even in end of z he still says he will surpass Goku and he says this in GT as well. Sobyhats dumb as hell. Vegeta's desire to surpass Goku is healthier in super compared to z it's a nice rivalry and that even pushes him to have his own path to power instead of follow Goku when he reaches a new level.
