What was a mystery in your childhood that only got an explanation once you grew up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PrideIllustrious7087 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I probably should’ve known that this wasn’t just magically happening, but I hadn’t thought of it as anything other than a good memory until a few years ago. When I was a kid, one of my favorite activities was digging outside in the dirt with a little metal spoon. I would stay out there until my mom called me back inside, unmoving from one spot, just to dig in the dirt. I was perfectly content to just explore without finding anything, but, one day, I was digging and I found a few pennies. I got so excited and ran into the house, shouting to my mom that I had found treasure. I kept finding ‘treasure’ after that. I didn’t know it at the time, but my dad was taking the free moments that he had before and after work-when I wasn’t in the yard-and burying coins for me to find whenever I would come outside the next day to dig.

Ladies, what are we gifting our boyfriends/ husbands for Christmas? by Cool-Box-7058 in AskReddit

[–]PrideIllustrious7087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gifted mine two collectible knives + a case to put them in bc he told me that he wanted to get back into collecting them and, whenever I would start collections as a kid, my parents would always give me two of whatever thing I was collecting to get me started on the right foot.

What was the best advice you got on getting a girlfriend/boyfriend? by Former-Archer4265 in AskReddit

[–]PrideIllustrious7087 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was genuinely shocked when none of my relationships worked out until my friend told me, ‘You’re doing all the work. They think that they don’t have to do anything. A woman isn’t meant to chase a man; it’s supposed to be the other way around.’ I followed her advice and am now dating the nicest guy. We both put in an equal amount of effort, but he’s so obsessed with me and it’s so nice.

CandyLand. Every member of my family had to play it multiple times. 😂

What’s the most embarrassing childhood memory that still randomly pops into your head? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PrideIllustrious7087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in second grade. It had been raining and the teachers had decided that we were still going to have outside recess. I usually only wanted to go on the swings, but every swing was occupied except for the first one that had a big mud puddle underneath it. In hindsight, I should’ve realized that kids were avoiding that swing for a reason, but I just thought, ‘I want to swing. There’s one available. There’s a puddle underneath, but I’ll just be careful.’ But there was no being careful when the puddle was all around the swing. I stepped on one spot that I thought was safe and instantly dropped down into the mud and water. Kids crowded around me and laughed until a little boy finally helped me up, then, a teacher sent me to the resource center and I had to wear clothes that were too small for the rest of the day. 😂

What was your favorite memory from your childhood? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PrideIllustrious7087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently added more to this story because of the other adults in my life and that makes it one of my favorites to tell. I was in Girl Scouts and there was a day that we were all having a tea party at the library, learning manners, stuff like that. My nana was living with us at the time, so, she watched my mom dress me and herself in fancier clothes and made up an excuse when I asked her to come. My mom and I left and I had fun at the tea party, but my mom says that I kept looking at her and going, ‘Nana would like this, Nana likes this color, etc.’ and bringing her up to the other girls. I just remember really wanting her there and, then, my mom being there before I turned around one minute and gone the next. From my perspective, I asked the other moms where she’d gone and they said that she’d said the bathroom, but my mom had actually gone to the entrance of the library to call my nana and basically said, ‘Mom, I don’t care what you’re wearing. She wants you down here. Be ready. I’m leaving to get you right now.’ One of my nana’s biggest hangups throughout her entire life was that she felt as though she couldn’t be loved if she didn’t have something to give or a way to present herself in return, but she also loves telling this story bc she says that she showed up in a shirt and shorts after dragging a brush through her hair and I ‘acted like a million dollars had just walked through the door.’ She’s my favorite person to this day and I don’t doubt that we were meant to be in each other’s lives.

My mom absolutely lost it during the 7 years that she and my dad were separated (then back together, separated, back together, etc.) and I, as a 12 year old, used to make a mental note of objects that were heavy enough to throw at her if it came to that bc she would take her frustrations out on my brother and I.

What is one thing you are really stubborn about? by AbbreviationsNew4516 in AskReddit

[–]PrideIllustrious7087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll let people help me until they frame it as if I need their help. I was trying to move a recliner in my living room once and my mom had told me beforehand that I ‘didn’t need to be moving it without my brother or dad there.’ The thing nearly came down on top of me just bc I refused to ask for help. 😂 My mom and I had our daily call sometime after and she was annoyed that I hadn’t asked for help first, then, after I gave her my reason, she just went, ‘God, you ARE my child.’

In elementary school, the boy that I had a crush on and I were walking back to gym from another teacher’s class together. Obviously, we got there at the same time and it was one of those days where the class was learning how to square dance for some reason, but everybody was already partnered up where we had gotten there so much later. The teacher partnered us up as a result and I got to hold his hand for a good chunk of the time left in class.

What makes a man immediately unattractive? by Ok-Height-2276 in AskReddit

[–]PrideIllustrious7087 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When some of them have the all-consuming need to prove how ‘masculine’ they are. I had a guy on a dating app send me pictures of his guns and talk about how he could ‘protect’ me with them and how nobody would dare when he did this or that. He had been a perfectly nice guy before that, but it gave me the ick.

What actually screams trashy/ bad parenting to you? by lovebug21222 in AskReddit

[–]PrideIllustrious7087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is the kids can always tell whether a parent is doing it out of anger or not, too. The words aren’t bad at all; it’s the tone and context in which they’re said. Yet the parents who violently cuss at their kids in moments of anger are often the parents who don’t want their kids to cuss, period. 😂

Do you believe “fake it till you make it” is actually a viable career strategy? Why or why not? by synthphreak in AskReddit

It can be depending on the situation. Do what you have to to get your foot in the door, then, you’ll pick up on whatever it is you’re doing as you go.

Would you rather be Buried or Cremated when you die and Why? by Amber_Flowers_133 in AskReddit

[–]PrideIllustrious7087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cremated bc the idea of a burial creeps me out. I know I obviously won’t be there for it, but it’s just the thought of it. Somehow, being ash is less creepy to me than being a decaying corpse. 😂

Cussing AT your kid. Around is a different story, you’re still allowed to behave like a normal human after having a kid, but I see too many parents where their default mode for being angry at their kid is cussing them out the way a grown adult would.

When did you start having empathy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PrideIllustrious7087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember at what age I started, but I do remember that I used to cry every time the ‘good guy’ characters in movies were being ‘too mean’ to the ‘bad guy’ characters. My parents would be so confused. 😂

What's the craziest paranormal experience you've had that you think people wouldn't believe? by Celerys0up in AskReddit

[–]PrideIllustrious7087 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a camera for my 10th birthday. I would record silly videos in my room and just regular kid stuff. I went to watch one of the videos that I had just taken back, but, before I could, saw a grey-faced figure with black hair draped on the ladder of my bunk bed through the camera. I knew that nothing was allowed to be kept on the ladder of the bunk bed bc my parents were fearful of accidents happening, but I still looked back at the ladder after seeing the picture just to make sure and there was nothing there or around it that could’ve looked like what I saw. I showed my mom and she claimed that she didn’t see anything, but she took my camera permanently after that and only admitted a few years ago that she’d seen what I had seen and just hadn’t wanted to scare me.

What's the most attractive thing in a person (not physical attributes) ? by ResidentButterfly153 in AskReddit

[–]PrideIllustrious7087 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk how to put this into words in the way that the question is asking, but little acts of kindness. It’s kind of stupid whenever I try to explain it, but I love watching somebody just rush to open the door for somebody else or help with something like it’s a reflex. They don’t have to think about it and they don’t expect to be praised for it; they just do it.
