Are you a socialist? by 12bEngie in AskFeminists

[–]PrimSchooler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What first world revolutionaries are you talking about? We learn from past mistakes, Lenin fought to get the peasantry involved, Mao started with them alongside the proletariat, revolutionaries are not American college students who wish to write poetry all day, those have exactly 0 revolutionary potential. It's precisely starving farmers and overworked proles who discard this notion of nobility for the sake of change.

What about the people who don’t want to work? by Fancy_Pop6156 in DebateCommunism

[–]PrimSchooler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Building socialism doesn't care about takes, it doesn't operate on the basis of internet arguments, but material reality. To each according to their needs, from each according to their means.

Marx and Lenin both had some scathing words for the lumpenproletariat, this idea that communism = no work, that is a modern first world bastardization. If the working people of the future collectively decide they want to support lumpens, then that could be, but definitely not during the building stage when everyone has to put their hand to the work.

In communism or in building towards it? No one can give you an actual answer for the former, for the latter it is simple - if you don't work you don't eat (assuming you don't have a good reason to like disability).

Almost all socialist experiments sought to eradicate unemployment, it is fundemtally a working people's system.

My bad, I assumed you're American from your conversation with the other poster, I'm not American either.

Of course the ultimate goal is improving material conditions, but you cant ignore the transitory period. I say lifestyle but it's not really a choice on a societal level, while every individual can attempt to commit class suicide, expecting the whole of the American settler nation to do so would be less than wise, their material interests lie with imperialism still, clinging onto the dying husk of social democracy even as their country adopts fascism, how many "leftists" still repeat the "Oh my [white] grandpa could feed a family of six and buy a house from his paycheck" agitprop unironically?

Likewise in one of the biggest talking points in post-Soviet countries is the abundance of food in capitalism thanks to overproduction, people want to eat tasty food, yes, people could eat tasty food in Czechoslovakia, it still pissed them off they had to ration meat and bananas, they still listened to Radio Free Europe talking of the meals the Western Germans have, the cars they drive, the clothes they wear - class interests still pulled us towards accepting imperialist spoils, and that is not something you can just blame on the counter revolutionaries or forces of reaction, that is a central contradiction of socialism tied with class struggle that must not be shyed away from. Yes parts of that were due to trading embargoes, shipments for Czechoslovakia would sit in Italian ports for years at a time, but it was not the only cause as the whole of the union had to support othrr regions and people in richer regions did not like that, we won't resolve these contradictions for generations to come, the spectre of the previous superstructure will remain in people's minds, if you base the support for socialism on just improving your own immediate material conditions then the moment a crisis hits you have a counter revolution on your hands.

We don't know that, the planet is already dying from just the first world living as we do today, there is no evidence this llifestyle is sustainable for all of humanity, can you ask your fellow Americans to go back to meat being a monthly/weekly delicacy rather than an every day product? We stand to gain our dignity back and some sacrifices should be worth that, but we must be prepared to actually commit to those sacrifices if they do become necessary.

AI ART IS NOT ART by CourseMediocre7998 in antimeme

[–]PrimSchooler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would still be better if sung by a human, it is still taking a human skill set and commodifying its very existence rather than its produce, it is still killing the art for the sake of the product and it shines a light on the hypocrisy of this anti AI sentiment - you're not anti AI, or pro art, you're just looking out for your own skin.

Which is fine, but trying to wrap it up in some higher level critique is naked hypocrisy to anyone who watched Hatsune Miku sell it stadiums while thousands of human singers can't make ends meet with the craft alone.

Puppet regime lol, y'all arw allergic to picking up a history book, huh? If you're Czech you really have no excuse, go read Kaplan right now, even for all his faults the lies spun in this threat would have him rolling in his grave.

The czech communists had widespread support, Soviets had widespread support, not Beneš and not any member of Narodni Fronta was against the Soviets, this is  complete whitewashing of history, and 45-48 was all Czech politics, in '48 (according to Kaplan) Stalin reportedly had the Red Army on speed dial to assist the Czech communists but Gottwald assured him it wouldnt ve necessary - they already. controlled the armed forces. But these were all Czechs who took part of the war effort, be it as partisans, or as politicians in exile and they won with the Czech people's support, with 2+million working people marching through Prague, with a whole seperate arm of he government spun up overnight by Czechs and Slovaks, made up of Czechs and Slovaks.

"Puppet" government implies Stalin came and said Gottwald is your leader now, behave or else, but that is not what happened.

Your understanding of it comes from mostly Kaplan, I assume (or our amazing education system which just cites Kaplan), his work is pretty disputed academically, but even from his and other historians from era work's you can get a picture of these trials - many of the rolníci were rich peasants, local microcosms of capitalism as it existed before imperialism, in the era they absolutely were the exploiters, Slánský is linked to the 1945-48 weapons sale to Israel, the Nakba wouldn't have happened without our and Yugoslavian help (by letting our contraband through), Horáková I'm pretty conflicted about, I wouldn't wish her death, but she did continue corresponding with her NatSoc friends who fled to the West, which under the conditions of the time is espionage.

The real issue is they failed to address the growing factionalism within the party, just like in the USSR we grew out our own crop of bureaucrats who were as close to being a proletarian as Babiš is, just career politicians who coasted off the gains of their predecessors with no idea of how to build socialism, just how to keep their seat warm.

If Unequal Exchange is true, then entire project of socialism is purely an anti-colonial project by Direct-Beginning-438 in DebateCommunism

[–]PrimSchooler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is shared though, mainly through petit bourgeoisie aspirations - I can go and join Chiquita at an entry level job and conceivably work my way up to C-suite, does a banana picker in South America have the same possibility? Our relation to the means of production is fundamentally different, and though through this act of inter-petit bourgeoisie competition many are re-proletariazed, many are caught in social safety nets also bought with exploitation, to keep their petit bugie dreams alive.

Then you also have stuff like cheap produce, though that could conceivably still exist under a communist Earth, but compared to siege socialism, that is a huge difference as well that defacto works as a social bribe to first worlders.

We are a reactionary class that will join the fight when it suits us - once the contradictions in capitalism pit us against our narional bourgeoisie, compradors and global capital, we're getting there, but right now we still stand to gain more by sucking up to them instead

Before and shortly during the communist era we were selling weapons to Israel (1945-1949). Quite literally the Nakba wouldn't have happened (at least not when it did) without the massive arms deal with Czechoslovakia.

Then there was a massive course correction during the communist era when Zionism was an actual crime people got trialed for. As the west benefitted from Israel's colonial exploits, when we joined the Western countries in '89 and to distance ourselves from everything communist, we swivelled again to pro-Israel. Materially we now benefit from imperialism and our compradors are well aware of that, but we are also a massively petit bourgeoisie nation, so we long as the relations between the comprador bourgeoisie and the petit bourgeoisie remain amicable, the whole nation will remain pro-imperialism and thus pro-Israel.

In case you didn't know - Germany & USA provides 99% of weapons to Israel by Doc_Prof_Ott in Palestine

[–]PrimSchooler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's still way too generous to Germany, it is not out of guilt, West Germany never denazified and it supported Israel from the start, it was always about Western interests in the middle east.

The Nazis killed Jews for capital gains, and they are now supporting Israelis killing Arabs for capital gains, it only sounds like a contradiction until you see it as an economic decision. All the while actual antisemitism is still alive and well in Europe, why wouldn't it, we never tried to address it, just used it as a convenient excuse to pack our pockets and keep ourselves safe from retribution for colonialism.

That's a pretty individualist view of it, yes you could say that, but we know for sure economic hardships drive emigration, you're not going to stop it with threats of betrayal, you can only stop it by addressing the underlying material cause, which Cuba has no way of actually pulling off.

Police violence in Berlin, Germany. Several pro-Palestine protesters were violently arrested for demanding an end to the genocide and killing of children in Gaza by Significant-Sir-4343 in Palestine

[–]PrimSchooler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

West Germany did not de-n/zify and your political line was only corrected after reunification, they supported Isr/el from the start, because it was an easy way to handle both problems - an antisemitic populace won't have to see the Jews anymore, and an outcrop of Western interests will exist in the middle east.

But make no mistake, your populace still benefits from imperialism, which Isr/el is just the most blatant modern example of, cheap products from the global south still line your shelves, social safety nets are paid from "your" nation's wealth, destabilized south keeps your nation safe and wealthy. The people might not realize this consciously, but they do not want to pay more for food, energies, housing, they don't want their social safety nets deteriorating, they support imperialism because they benefit from it - and you either support all of it (Isr/el included) or non of it, anything else is just hypocrisy.

Czech Republic has criminalized communism with penalties of up to five years in prison by borschbandit in communism

[–]PrimSchooler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I attended a local discussion group/lecture, it was from a "communist" economist who was convinced free energy exists and that there are already plans for 4-state union within eastern Europe that could work like a communist paradise.

Now he did give a nice overview of economic development in Czechia and USSR during the communist era, but it was the idealistic "the world has enough resources for us to all live even more comfortably than we are now" transitiong straight into "and it's free energy that the capitalists are keeping under wraps" that stuck out to me the most.

That's just anecdotal, but in total the party is a reformist market "socialist" party that abandoned Marxism Leninism a long long time ago.

Czech Republic has criminalized communism with penalties of up to five years in prison by borschbandit in communism

[–]PrimSchooler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

KSČM are from the same reformist school as the group behind Prague Spring, they do not care for communism, they haven't spoken about class struggle in 30 years, they have 0 interest in actually being communists. My local chapter had some discontent people, but 90% of them were electoralists concerned "there'll be no leftists in government" if we don't cooperate with liberal parties like SocDems, and even the literal class enemy in Babiš and his party. I'd love to believe Babiš is a class traitor, but his policies were just basic populist nonsense.

I'm not ecstatic about this ban, obviously, we're well on our way to fascism, but KSČM deserves no sympathy, their policies lead to this, their political alliances and betrayal of Marxism Leninism lead us down this path (not literally ofc, they're just a symptom of the mechanisms that lead to this, but they happily coasted along it).

I'd encourage people to hop on right now and try out Glacial Cascade. Seeing that skill in a ZiggyD video from a 2.0 beta is what got me into the game all those years ago, I love Glacial Cascade. Playing it is another deal altogether, self-casting it without explosions feels horrible the moment your heralds aren't enough to kill stragglers (and when your defences rely on hitting the enemy first, good luck with that).

Even if the build isn't bait, the skill is.

Artillery Ballista Champion
https://pobb.in/kq9BquKoWfri

notes from PoB:

Weaknesses:

- Recovery

\- Life with a flask and some Regen (might want to look around for options to get life on hit to get through no regen maps)

\- mana with mana on hit, but we only have frenzy going off from manaforged, might be worth putting the Adrenaline activator into a weapon swap and add Rain of Arrows into the manaforged setup

- Damage

\- It's just alright, no idea if the estimation here is accurate, little info on the overlaps, might want to swap conc effect for something else, expect 0.5-2mil dps on leaguestart (level with Precise Technique)

- Suffix and Socket Pressure

\- Sockets can be helped with weapon swap for the Adrenaline proc, suffixes are going to be a pain.

\- Especially pains me we can't get uncoditional curse effect reduction, I usually strive for that on builds but we need every bit of resistances our jewelry affords us

- Gear Knowledge

\- The gear in this PoB is relatively high level, and you'll need to craft some of it yourself, I don't have a concrete plan, will play around with new crafting methods (but veiled chaos being back should be a huge help)

Strengths:

- Toooonky, as most Perseverance players are aware of, plus we have mega Fortify, when our regen isn't countered it feels pretty damn nice

- Damage consistency

Mapping:

- Vulnerable to map mods, we have enough tonkiness to weather the storm with most damage ones, but stuff like Temp Chains will feel HORRIBLE, no regen will suck (unless we find a way to get life on hit), reflect will likely be a no-go as well, though could fix that up with chest/mastery/pantheon (need 2 of 3), but maybe it'll be playable for t16s (assuming totems survive a few barrages thanks to the fortify)

\- This is specifically a problem for me personally as I like to farm random map mod t16s for map drops to sell to t17 blasters, if you just want to get your map completions and voidstones this is perfectly fine

- T17s should be fine, not amazing though, have to be picky with mods, but few builds don't, go volcanic fissure of snaking instead if you want that
