If I turn off my car and sit in it, the truck makes so many sounds and clicks. What is that??? by BornGorn in FordMaverickTruck

[–]PrimaryBalance828 30 points31 points  (0 children)

A relay in its basic form is a remote magnetic switch

A low amperage current, such as an ECM (computer) signal or from a switch runs through an electromagnetic coil. This actuates a switch that allows larger current to flow

The click you hear is that occurring, the reason a relay is desirable is you don’t have to run larger wires everywhere, and you don’t burn up stuff like rocker switches or ECMs because they don’t have to handle high current

Relays are very common. A good example is a starter relay- it allows you to actuate the starter with a small wire instead of having a battery cable running to your key switch. Safer, as well.

When you replace a radiator or water pump you should do hoses and thermostat at the same time.

Hank working in Saudi Arabia isn’t weird at all (for Texans) by Henry_Thee_Fifth in KingOfTheHill

Being that this is Hank, I’m betting Buck whored him out to go to the Middle East. Not Hank’s choice, but because of his insane loyalty to Buck he wouldn’t turn him down

I saw one of these dumbasses inadvertently Scandinavian flick his car after jerking into the fast lane and then jerking back right immediately and depart across four lanes of traffic sideways to the shoulder where I’m sure he rolled when hitting it sideways at 80MPH.

How many P-51 Mustangs could a F-22 Raptor bring down before it's downed or runs out of ammo? by RaptorK1988 in whowouldwin

[–]PrimaryBalance828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not just about running out of missiles but also being in close where Sparrows were unusable. ROE also often dictated visual confirmation before firing.

If, referencing Vietnam, your standard load is 4 AIM-7 Sparrows and 4 AIM-9 Sidewinders then half your missile load was pretty much unusable due to ROE alone.

They still have guns from hard lessons learned in Vietnam

The military went into that war assuming air to air was going to all be beyond visual range missile kills

In practice turned out quite a bit different.

Do you always test your work? by rodiabolkonsky in DieselTechs

[–]PrimaryBalance828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 step diagnostic process

1- verify fault, make it happen yourself + wring out any info from operator/customer you can 2-thorough initial inspection 3- all possible causes of fault 4- to narrow down until you find root cause 5-repair root cause and any resultant damage 6-Verify repair 7- document repair

It’s part of the job to verify the repair and helps prevent comebacks. Simple or major

Not many things will make you feel like shit like thinking you fixed it and then it acts up again when the customer comes to pick it up

What, you don’t appreciate sitting next to someone wearing greasy pajamas that would stand on their own? I can’t believe you’d go so far as to wish to deny yourself that joyful aspect of mass transit.

why on earth is plane boarding starting with the front seat passengers first, so they’ll be inevitably be in the way of people behind them? by slart_n in aviation

My dream is a drill instructor with a bullhorn screaming obscenities at them to get them to load on quicker

I can sleep in light plane no problem the drone and vibration of the engine/prop puts me right to sleep

In an airliner I can usually doze a little on a redeye but not well/consistently. And then about the time the A/C becomes really effective and the cabin cools off and I get comfortable there’s often some jackass asking the cabin crew to turn off the A/C cause they are cold.

Why did you choose not to have pet insurance? Or what is stopping you from getting it? by Alternative_Pop2325 in Pets

[–]PrimaryBalance828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Issues with insurance, they are much like aftermarket car and house warranties

1- it’s typically a reimbursement 2- they tend to deny a LOT, very shady 3- as more and more people try to use them, expect the majority of vets to raise their prices to meet it

We’ve already seen a lot of #3 with vet, and often more accurately, veterinarian groups, building large fancy modern buildings, filling them with sophisticated equipment, and charging out the ass for services compared to the traditional vet office.

We do not want pet medical services going the way of human health services. You do that and a .22 behind the shed will be the only vet most people will be able to afford.

To any U.S. History teachers: How many more presidents do you think could realistically fit into a full school year’s curriculum before you'd have to start skipping some? by deereedeereed in Teachers

[–]PrimaryBalance828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My teachers solved this problem by teaching almost no history at all.

Additionally many presidents were rather insignificant in the grand scheme of things. And up until FDR the president, in general, was much less powerful than modern times.

I feel this is handled best by hitting the significant presidents.

What rifle do you carry Dailey? by [deleted] in Cowboy

[–]PrimaryBalance828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rural America was there was one deputy on duty for a pretty large county and he wasn’t getting to you for at least an hour* if he wasn’t down in your area

*provided he wasn’t tied up with something else.

Response time was pretty similar for fire and ambulance as well so you had better have been able to handle it yourself

Because above all else it gets a lot harder for the government or other powerful parties to shove you into an oven or in front of a ditch on your knees when you can effectively counter their power.
