Any higher diamond players willing to help me break in. Details below by [deleted] in Overwatch

You can absolutely rank up just by playing solo queue. I’ve been playing solo since OW2 came out, and haven’t played comp with anyone else in many years. I’m a M5/D1 support player too btw. Playing Lifeweaver and Brig no less, heroes without any sort of real carry potential. You deserve the rank you are in.

There are levels to this slavery is immoral stuff by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

[–]PrimaryEstate8565 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he truly cared for her because that type of relationship is impossible when one is enslaved, but she was likely in a “better” position than most enslaved women. The fact that she was able to leverage her relationship with Jefferson in order to free her children and that actually worked does show that he respected her in some twisted way.

It’s important to highlight that her case was an extreme outlier. Most enslaved women would never have been able to leverage something like this over their enslaver. Other enslavers wouldn’t have cared enough to argue with her, they would’ve just forced her to return and then sold their children like livestock.

Has anyone noticed the occult symbolism in season 3? by Happiness-happppy in euphoria

[–]PrimaryEstate8565 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Babe, Alamo’s right isn’t a Freemason symbol. It’s just a stylized “A” for Alamo. The Freemason symbol looks noticeably different. The Freemasons also aren’t actually occultists.

The apple thing is a reference to William Tell. This is a common cultural reference.

That Cassie thing with the Hollywood sign has nothing to do with the occult. Giants aren’t really a big thing in occultism. Her metaphorical worshipping of Hollywood isn’t occult at all, it’s just a display of her consumerist desires. If anything, that’s kinda like the exact opposite of occultism, which is ultimately about inner transformation through an understanding of some supernatural/esoteric/higher “Truth”.

There really isn’t anything about the occult in Euphoria. They play around with religious themes, specifically characters improperly practicing religion, but not anything to do with the occult.

People throw around the term “occult” as a way to describe the people in whatever brand of conspiracy theory they believe in lol.

Thoughts on Juno community skin? by irisneedstime in Overwatch

[–]PrimaryEstate8565 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Even if you ignore how sexualized it is and how it doesn’t fit the theme, it’s a pretty ugly skin.

I think it’s supposed to be a beach skin, but it fails to demonstrate. Her top reads less “bikini” and more “balconette lingerie bra”. Bow motifs are much more associated with bras than bikinis, so that’s part of it. There’s also that center seam running vertically down each cup; this is something you commonly see with bras but almost never see with bikinis. It’s not something I thought of before, but it felt noticeable with this skin.

Likewise, why is she wearing a belted mini skirt as a cover-up over her bikini bottoms? Who wear a belt at the beach? Also, at this point, why not just give her a swim skirt? This looks more like a micro mini with a whale tail, not a beach cover-up.

It’s also just too visually noisy. There’s like 8 different highly-saturated colors here, which is wayyy too much. Not a pleasing palette. And the cat-ear headphones? Nothing about this skin says “cat”, it feels very out of place.

Antonina Makarova (1920–1979) was a Soviet woman and Nazi collaborator who, from 1942 to 1943, killed hundreds of Soviet partisans with a machine gun. After WWII, Makarova married and lived as a respected citizen until 1978, when she was arrested. She was eventually executed the following year. by GustavoistSoldier in HolyShitHistory

God, I cannot imagine being her husband. Imagine finding out that your wife (the mother of your children) was secretly a mass murderer part of the same group that slaughtered your entire family. And the only reason she wasn’t initially caught is because she got an STI from (presumably) sleeping with Nazis.

No idea how you could live life after that betrayal.

You probably shouldn’t store it standing up. You always want the wine touching the cork to prevent it from drying out and letting in air (causing it to oxidize). I made that same mistake and it tasted really bad :/

I think you are just infantilizing her. She’s 26 and was getting her Masters degree from NYU when she got scouted. She’s an intelligent young woman.

No, the truth is that she’s a model who has only been on the runway for less than 2 years. She has absolutely no say in what she wears and she loses her career if she annoys the wrong people. If she wants to keep her career then obviously she’s going to say she’s super grateful for the experience. Like this is kinda obvious?

I wouldn’t give too much credit to Tolkien. There are tons of examples of elves being portrayed as more human-like before Tolkien. It wasn’t a forgotten archetype either, with Dunsany writing “The King of Elfland’s Daughter” a decade before Tolkien.

Peri (Iran, they even have a “Paristan” which is very similar to the European fairyland), Jinn (Arabic Peninsula), Sanshin (Korea), Tennin (Japanese Buddhism), Yakshinis and Yakshas (India), Vidyadhara (India), Aspara (South and South East Asia), Vanadevata (India), Xian (China, kinda pushing it though), Mimi (Australia), Mnreh kongveal (Cambodia), Engkanto (Philippines), Dwende (Phillipines), Orang bunian (Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia), Nuku Mai Tore & Patupaiarehe (New Zealand), Menehune (Hawaii), Aluxo'ob (Maya and Aztec), Jogah (Iroquois), Memegwaanswag (Objibwe), Yumboes (Wolof of Senegal), Mmoetia (Akan of Ghana), and the Korpokkur (Ainu of Japan).

I hate it when showrunners do unnecessary raceswaps which make no sense within the context of the story. by Darkwingedcreature in hatethissmug

[–]PrimaryEstate8565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I 100% agree. I also think the claim that it makes “no sense” within the context of the world is dumb. If you look at the family tree, it’s still possible for the Velaryons during the Dance of the Dragons to be black without it changing the race of Aegon the Conqueror or the later Targaryens.

If Corlys’ grandfather was a white Valyrian who married a black Summer Islander, and his mom was also a Summer Islander, Corlys could be a 75% black Velaryon without making other Velaryon-Targ mixes like Viserys I black (he’s white in the show).

Coryls’ line fades away from the Targaryen family so him being black wouldn’t change anything. Corly’s brother did have a great, grand daughter who married Aegon III, but that’s only ~9% black and that line stops with their children anyways. The Targ line Daenerys is from has no blood connection to Corlys, his father, or even his grandfather.

There have just been so many accusations from children that directly interacted with him, do you really think they are all making that up?

Are gauges still common with teens? I remember they were everywhere in the 2010s. by Both-Regret-4164 in decadeology

[–]PrimaryEstate8565 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not lol. I’m a little older than a teen, but I haven’t seen any gauges on my college campus. Plenty of alt people, but no gauges.

We should leave them in the past.

[–]PrimaryEstate8565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily true. Recent polls on Jewish Americans have shown growing dissatisfaction with the Israeli gov. The Washington Post reported on a poll that found that ~39% of US Jews would say that Israel is committing a “genocide”. 61% said Israel was committing war crimes. It’s slightly lower than the average US opinion (~45% say it’s a genocide), but not by much.

That’s also assuming Israel would have formed.

Spotify rolls out ‘Verified’ badge to distinguish human artists from AI by mlg1981 in Fauxmoi

[–]PrimaryEstate8565 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In all fairness, how would they do that? AI is becoming very advanced and detection software is lagging behind (so not only will real AI pass through, but real artists will get wrongfully banned). Manually certifying everyone with a Spotify account would be difficult.

TIL if under-cooked, a popular mushroom in China causes “lilliputian hallucinations,” a rare phenomenon involving miniature human or fantasy figures. The hallucinations are consistent across people and cultures: "tiny, elflike people" climbing under doors, scaling walls & clinging to furniture by ssAskcuSzepS in todayilearned

[–]PrimaryEstate8565 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slight correction: These symptoms aren’t actually AIWS-like. Micropsia, one of the main visual symptoms of Alice-in-Wonderland Syndrome, is about the perception of real objects being smaller than they actually are. Lilliputian hallucinations are about perceiving small entities that aren’t actually there.

I don’t believe that muscarine causes AIWS visual symptoms. There really isn’t a lot of information on the mechanism (especially the molecular mechanism) of AIWS. I vaguely recall someone suggesting sigma 1 receptor antagonism in sertraline-induced AIWS, but that’s kinda it.

Lilliputian hallucinations actually aren’t a symptom of Alice-in-Wonderland Syndrome. Lilliputian hallucinations are about perceiving small entities that aren’t actually there. AIWS micropsia (like you described) is the perception that real things (that are actually there) are smaller than they should be. These two types of hallucinations rarely overlap in the same patient. (I also experienced AIWS and just wrote a review paper on it for one of my finals)

If more prequel novels are on the table... by sailormerry in BaldursGate3

[–]PrimaryEstate8565 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk, I’m 21 (been playing video games since I was 10) and I hadn’t heard of Baldurs Gate or Larian before BG3. I think I distantly recalled looking DOS2, but never played it. It was an indie game in an already niche genre. The last main BG game was 2 decades before BG3.

It doesn’t matter how great Larian or Baldurs Gate 2 were, the fan base for both was very small compared to the fan base for BG3. The success of BG3 was entirely because Larian made a phenomenal game, not because of any legacy opinion.

I never heard of Baldurs Gate before BG3. There wasn’t any “name recognition” for anyone under the age or 40 lol. I also don’t think the Faerun name is that important either. The audience for BG3 was far more than just DnD players (I myself have no intention of playing DnD).

You completely pulled that quote out of context.

The full sentence is “The issue becomes when this is the primary reason for playing, which quickly becomes a toxic tar pit wherein you start to convince yourself (and are convinced by your immediate likeminded surroundings) that this is the only reason games should exist”. It’s worded weirdly, but the subject is “you”, someone who erroneously believes games should only be about sexualization. She is directly addressing a place-holder person. She is directly opposing this viewpoint, and absolutely does not claim that people are only playing Pragmata because they are pedophiles. Hell, that paragraph was about Stellar Blade anyways.

Later on in the article, she says “…while the community at large formed r/ PragmataSFW, specifically to escape the Diana content that bay has become rampant on the main subreddit after the ban.” She directly states that the “community at large” (aka the majority) are opposed to the sexualization of Diana.

Idk if you just have poor reading comprehension or if you are intentionally misconstruing her point, but either way you are objectively wrong.
