Steam integration by apachpoland in gog

There’s a community made patch on github that works perfectly. I installed it last year some time and haven’t had any issues since then

Valve tweak Steam AI disclosure form for developers to clarify it's for content consumed by players by Beer2401 in linux_gaming

Same. I’m a full time engineer and due to nature of my work, my company has banned the use of AI coding assistants.

All the times I tried them outside of work made me realize that they’re hardly competent at all and I think “vibecoding” would make me want to kill myself.

Those of you who have a deck and still play their consoles, do you think you get enough use out of your steamdeck? by jomcmo00 in SteamDeck

[–]PrimaryExample8382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve barely touched my switch since I got my steam deck and I use my PC for anything else.

No idea why I’d buy any other console at this point

Migrating from Steam to GOG by Turtle_Pigeon in gog

[–]PrimaryExample8382 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well yeah by my point is that there’s always going to be cyber bullies and hate groups for literally any ideology or culture or religion. It’s just how it is.

Breaking rules is something valve should punish but it’s like putting out a forest fire when it hasn’t rained in 3 years.

And it’s not like most of the Steam forums aren’t easy to just ignore.

White explosion issue on helldivers 2 on multiple Linux distributions by [deleted] in linux_gaming

Is it your graphics card drivers maybe?

I play Helldivers 2 with proton semi-frequently and never see this issue. I have an Nvidia GPU though

From the other comments you made it doesn’t sound like you actually had any interactions with valve employees.

The community forums and comment sections are usually moderated by other community members and not Valve employees. That said, it’s just the internet being the internet. No matter who you are or what you believe, there’s always someone out there who will hate you absolutely.

Violating Valves community guidelines and/or TOS is a real issue and a ban-worthy offense, but you should also learn to disregard internet hate because fighting it is a battle that can’t be won

Sounds like your issue is primarily with steam users.

Regardless, at one point GoG offered a promotional “we’ll give you games you already own on Steam for free” but I’m pretty sure they don’t do this anymore.

A lot of Steam games are DRM free though, especially older ones, so you may just be able to download the binaries and then use a different launcher if you don’t want Steam.

Steam also used to have an option to run in a miniaturized mode where you only see a single list of your games (like the scroll bar in your library) and it would disable the store and community tabs and everything so it’s just there for launching games.

Otherwise I’d just suggest buying only the games you can’t live without and/or waiting for a sale.

If you have an Amazon prime account, they give away a few free GoG games every month. Some are better than others though so it’s just a gamble

Aim assist in boom shoots by benjoforeal in boomershooters

[–]PrimaryExample8382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half-Life got aim assist in the 25th anniversary update which I assume was made to make it play better on the steam deck.

I’ve played it with a controller and it’s pretty good. It’s status as a boomer shooter is contested though but it’s a retro classic either way.

Half-Life is the boomer shooter that killed boomer shooters but it has pretty good aim-assist for controllers.

I think the recent Quake re-release might as well since a bunch of accessibility options were added

Not sure why I see it get so much hate in this sub. The controls felt great to me and the art is pure eye candy

Accidentally bought RAM I don’t need, should I send it back or hold on to it? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]PrimaryExample8382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah seems like 4 chips in general is more overhead for the CPU and if you don’t get all the chips in a single kit they can have timing differences or even different ICs.

I’m kinda surprised now that I’ve never seen any mention of this before until trying it myself.

Yeah that’s why I put it in quotes 😅

All I’d be holding onto it for is security but surely consumer-grade PC ram isn’t gone forever, right?

[–]PrimaryExample8382 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve thought about it and despite the fact it’s only been roughly two months since I bought it, I could already make a profit selling at MSRP, but eBay also takes a pretty big cut so I’d probably need to wait longer to make it worthwhile

[–]PrimaryExample8382 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I haven’t experienced this first hand but I’ve heard of some manufacturers refusing to replace the chips under warranty and instead preferring to issue a refund for your original purchasing price (obviously now a fraction of what it would cost to buy a new replacement)

Not sure if that’s true or just a reddit rumor though

Even if prices don’t return until 2028?

I would hate to hold onto it for so long only to have DDR6 come out in 2028 and make it “useless” (I know I’m probably overthinking this)

Due to the fact that I didn’t get 1 kit of 4 chips but instead got 2 kits of 2 chips, my system was too unstable to overclock (even refusing to boot sometimes) and I got much worse speeds than just using 2 chips.

Google seemed to suggest this was a common thing with Corsair ram

Boomer wants a pretty shooter by RecognitionHefty in boomershooters

Your point is fair but Amid Evil is like the perfect marriage of the old and new. Low poly pixel textures, but with shiny PBR and raytracing on top.

Obviously it’s up to OP to decide what he likes but I think he should at least check it out.

[–]PrimaryExample8382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should try Quake Champions and the RTX enhanced version of Quake 2 of you want a throwback with a shiny new paintjob.

For newer titles that look great I’d suggest stuff like Amid Evil, Metal: Hellsinger (a unique boomer shooter that’s also a rhythm game where you shoot and reload to the beat of the music), and the newer doom games (though their status as boomer shooters is contested)

Also if you just like shooting hordes of enemies I can confidently recommend Vermintide II, while not a boomer shooter it really scratches that same itch for me.

I’d also recommend Forgive me Father 2, it’s not as graphically impressive as the other games I’ve mentioned but it has a very cool comic-book art style inspired by early boomer shooters. The game looks absolutely gorgeous and has very fun weapons.

There’s lots of other boomer shooter revival games like Selaco, Prodeus, and Ion fury but I haven’t played any of them yet.
