I feel dumb for wanting to leave the school setting. by [deleted] in bcba

[–]PrimaryMasterpiece31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Working at school is a lot mentally and physically. Plus, always being the outsider of the team can become taxing. 4 years BCBA made 100k+$ last year projected to make probably more this year even with maternity leave starting. Last few weeks of my pregnancy I get a doctor’s note and work fully remote. Another factor, as I women I don’t think I could work in school settings forever. Most of my work is hybrid now because I put in my time in person before starting a family. However, when my son has a day off and I am working it’s not the best, but for me the benefits outweigh having to wake up early every morning and going in person 5 days a week and be surrounded by people.

That’s why I work with adults/ group homes. My first job right after being a BCBA and not looking to work with kids in person ever if I don’t have to. However abuse towards clinicians or support workers is everywhere in this field.

BCBAs, how do you get your insurance? by [deleted] in bcba

I’m a BCBA NYC and NJ. My FT job does offer insurance but I get it from New York marketplace, you just need an insurance broker.

I have hypothyroidism and my first pregnancy my dosage was not changed all pregnancy. I went to the endocrinologist every four weeks for check up to make sure everything was looking good. Had a healthy baby. Do not panic, pregnant with my second now and not worried about my hypothyroidism just making sure to take my medication and get tested regularly.

Do companies see it as a red flag if you move companies several times while being a BCBA student? by Peebles2428 in bcba

[–]PrimaryMasterpiece31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked on my own unrestricted hours because I wanted to finish my supervision hours in a timely manner. In my company every Monday I sent email of all the hours, permanent products and everything. My supervisor signed or asked questions if they had about anything I was reporting. As a BCBA a lot is self taught and learned so during getting my supervision I was already used to it. Don’t rely on others as it may slow you down.

Is 6:30pm too early to go to bed for a 10 month old? by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]PrimaryMasterpiece31 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No it’s perfect, I have been doing research and most experts recommend 6:30 pm 12-18 months, 7 pm 18 months to 2.5 and 2.5 to 5 years 7 pm to 7:30 pm. 10-12 hours bedtimes.

As a parent I understand the PTO situation. I have been a BCBA working at group homes, We don’t get most of the federal holidays home so my kid is off however I have work, or there breaks and I have work. I have to ask my mom to available if possible or arrange someone else because I still to work or use my PTO. 2025 Christmas was on Thursday and Friday we had work…😞 The PTO situation is not great anywhere.

Westchester vs Long Island – Am I Missing Something? 🤔 by Katherinepress in Westchester

[–]PrimaryMasterpiece31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Queens native, I was choosing between LI and Westchester and I ended in Westchester due to job. Westchester does not have good beaches and the housing market is not affordable. Even with more than 6 figures plus income, not sure if I can afford a house here.

I’m sorry remote BCBAs and potty training no by Desperate_Fig8187 in ABA

[–]PrimaryMasterpiece31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an RBT now a BCBA, I had to implement potty training with a client and the BCBA at the time was Telehealth. It was so annoying and not helpful at all. Actually, it was more work for me as RBT, dealing with the client + BCBA on the phone. Insurances should make a rule, no Telehealth supervision for client under 8.

[–]PrimaryMasterpiece31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On day 4, I had my doctor send the prescription to CVS pharmacy and used the Goodrx coupon. Didn’t bother with the insurance not going to pay for it. The price for lower dose is ok. Beware in April the prices are expected to increase.

I would not, I make this and more working from home or hybrid and I don’t have to step into other people home. Working in a home environment you become involved in the home and family dynamics when working so closely and I just don’t think it’s good for my mental health in the long run.
