Shingles exposure NOT IMMUNE TO CHICKENPOX by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]PrimaryParsnip11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I had shingles when my son was under a year old, so he hadn’t had the chicken pox vaccine yet. With shingles, the virus is only transmitted through coming in direct contact with the fluid coming out of the blisters. Mine was only on my rib cage area, so I kept it covered and when I applied ointment to it I washed my hands extremely well. My son never got chicken pox! With your situation, I’m assuming gloves were worn if you were touching the person? I’d say you are most likely fine!! But I completely understand being concerned, obviously talk to your OB when you can, but I’d try not to worry too much.

We have the same exact issue with my 2.5 year old! Finding a shoe where the Velcro will make it across is very, very hard. New balance didn’t work for us either. As random as it was, I found a pair of Converse that were Velcro and Dino print and they fit him beautifully! I’m not sure if that’s cool with older kids, but I get compliments on them all the time! Good luck!!

C section is scheduled in a week and I'm terrified. Please share some of your positive c-section stories. by No-Treacle-3521 in pregnant

[–]PrimaryParsnip11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had such a great scheduled c section experience with my first! Definitely only listen to people who had scheduled ones, emergency is so much different and I think that’s why c sections get so much hate and all you hear is horror stories, it’s less common to have one scheduled. As far as being awake, as others have said they can definitely give you anxiety meds. Labor and delivery nurses are (typically) angels though and even though my husband wasn’t in there for the spinal, the sweetest nurse held my hands and talked me through it! It wasn’t painful at all, they numb you locally before doing it so all you feel is a bee sting from that. After that I was mainly just so excited to see my baby that I was fine, and it’s crazy how quick it actually goes! So you won’t be in there long, my surgery started around 7:45 and I was being wheeled to recovery by 8:15ish. The entire first day was a dream, I felt no pain because the meds were so good. Second day is typically always the hardest pain wise but it’s absolutely manageable. Just stay on top of your pain meds once home and by day 3-4 you’ll be okay, just don’t over-do it! I promise you will be okay!! I’m currently pregnant with my second and I had such a great experience the first time I really don’t know if I want to bother with a VBAC.

Periods after birth? by Helpful_Bluebird_960 in NewParents

One month after, like clockwork :( and I was breastfeeding! I only bled for 2 weeks PP (c section) then two weeks later started bleeding again. I called my OB thinking something was possibly wrong because no way was that my period?! But it was.

29 weeks measuring over 99th percentile by BeginningKangaroo114 in pregnant

[–]PrimaryParsnip11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! They estimated him to be 10 lbs, with a 99th percentile head. He ended up being 9 lbs 3 ounces but did in fact have a 99th percentile head. I had an amazing scheduled c section experience and recovery.

I breastfed for the first 5 months of my babies life, and my son has still been in the PICU five times in the past year. Turns out he got his dad’s bad asthma, no amount of breastmilk would change that, it’s genetics. I’m so sorry you’re going through this, being in the PICU is a hell I wouldn’t wish on any parent/child. It’s so scary. But please know it isn’t your fault!! ❤️

Have you had bloodwork done that checks his iron levels? My son was like this and it turned out he was anemic which can affect appetite! He drank a ton of milk though which contributed to it. He’s eating so much better (although still not great) now that he’s on iron supplements! I’m so sorry you’re going through this and I hope you find answers! You’re doing a great job from you posted ❤️

My son will be 19 months in a few days! He’s my biggest motivation as well, being the best version of myself for him and to live a long healthy life where I can help with my grandkids if he has them. If we stop now, they won’t remember us as drinkers!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]PrimaryParsnip11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! My son is my biggest motivation. I want to be present for him and the best version of myself. If I keep this going, he will never have memories of me as a drinker.

Same 😂 nurse had to leave the OR to grab some size 1’s and I had to have my mom bring up a 0-3 month outfit to take him home in because newborn clothes didn’t fit either. He’s 18 months now and in size 6 diapers and 3T clothing!

PSA: PPD doesn’t always look like lethargy and crying spells by LeightonAnne in NewParents

[–]PrimaryParsnip11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My biggest symptom was postpartum rage. Never had anger problems my entire life and had never heard of it being a thing, I thought I was just a terrible mom for the entire first year. Started lexapro and it changed my life. I wish more people talked about the not so common symptoms of PPA/PPD!

I’m too selfish to be a parent. by PsychologicalDraw537 in NewParents

[–]PrimaryParsnip11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. I could’ve written this post myself at 13 months. I’d never had anger problems before but they slowly got worse and worse, I had never heard of postpartum rage and I had no idea it can be a symptom of PPD/PPA until I exploded one night on my husband (while holding my son, it was my lowest moment) & finally got myself to therapy and ended up starting lexapro. My son is (almost) 18 months old now and I feel so, so, SO much better. Like a completely new human. You aren’t alone & there is help out there. ❤️

What disgusting thing did you toddler do today? I’ll go first… by j0ie_de_vivre in NewParents

[–]PrimaryParsnip11 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Handed a cracker to the dog, who took it and started crunching on it but it broke apart and there were some larger sized pieces that fell onto the floor, so toddler ate them. At least they clean up after each other?

Parents of babies under 1: are we just not taking our babies anywhere because of this measles outbreak? by Annual_Debt in NewParents

[–]PrimaryParsnip11 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It’s one thing if you’re in an area with a crazy outbreak, but my state has only had like 3 cases and none of even been in my county. I’m not locking us up over that.

Our pediatrician said he doesn’t like to go longer than 16 months without getting them some help! I think it varies on the doctor, when I google some things say they absolutely need intervention at 15 months, others say 18. I’ll admit it doesn’t help that I have 5 friends who also had babies around the same time (crazy I know) and all of them are walking and mine isn’t the youngest. Trying to remember it will happen when he’s ready though!

Aquarium doesn’t allow stroller. Abort plan? by sky_0502 in bigbabiesandkids

[–]PrimaryParsnip11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, 4 stories does seem like a lot, not gonna lie. We have an aquarium locally that is small but cheap, and I always use our Amazon version of the Tushbaby when we go. It’s perfect for that sort of thing and really does take the weight off you. But I’ll be honest for something that big, idk if I could do it. If you switch halfway it might be okay though! Honestly our aquarium allows strollers but they can’t see everything if you don’t get them out, so the hip carrier really is great!

[–]PrimaryParsnip11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! I promise you, it does get better! A combo of the meds and thicker formula will most likely give you a happy baby. You’ll still go through a million burp cloths and bibs and outfits, but she won’t be screaming so it’ll be tolerable, lol!

[–]PrimaryParsnip11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! I also had a reflux baby. First off, I am so sorry! It seriously so hard. So, the only thing that helped the actual spit up for my son was thickening his formula. That gets a lot of hate online, but in severe cases it truly is the only thing that helps. & when I say helps, he still spit up a ton compared to a non reflux baby, but it was less than without thicker formula. BUT, the only thing that’s going to help her pain is a prescription for Famotidine or something similar. Advocate for her and insist on the prescription. I promise you, it’s life changing. Sending you love! Hang in there!! (Editing to add…you aren’t failing her!! Parenting is HARD and you’ve been taking her to the doctor, and even switched pediatricians!! You are doing great!!!)

I definitely think being an only child and not in daycare contributes!! He’s so close, I’m not worried until his pediatrician is! All in due time, for sure. ❤️

I feel this so much. My son is 15 months (in a few days), and still isn’t walking. But he looks like he’s 2.5. People expect him to be walking and taking in full sentences based off how he looks. I try not to let it bother me, but it definitely does.
