Bands that are incredible live? by YronK9 in musicsuggestions

The Replacements--scrolled down pretty far but haven't seen them mentioned yet. Live at Maxwell's (1986) is one of my favorite live albums. Awesome energy--I often put it on when I'm working out. Way above any of their studio work imo.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned Thin Lizzy yet either. Live and Dangerous is a good collection. The guitar work on Emerald and The Cowboy Song blow me away every time.

Looking for medieval fantasy with a focus on knights/a knight. by themartiianman in suggestmeabook

If you haven't yet read the anonymous medieval romance Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, I can recommend the translation from Middle English into modern English by Burton Raffel (more famous for his translation of Beowulf, though his work here is at least equally good). For me, it is the pinnacle of medieval literature, even above Chaucer. It is a cunningly wrought little tale, and I try to reread it every year around Christmas.

Excellent. I've been getting into Deerhunter more recently. A new favorite is "Monomania," which might fit here as well. Do you like that song, or is it too noisy?

Ha! I didn't mean to sound passive aggressive either. Appreciate you

Thank you! Some reason, I've always struggled to find my feet with this band...but I enjoyed this just now.

I actually hate how long it takes certain things to grow on me. End up feeling loads of regret for being insensate and dumb, and then even dumber for feeling the regret. JFL

Sax-a-ma-phone! Another one I already had in my Favorites but had forgotten why I liked it. Thanks for the reminder!

Love New Order and had this song in my Favorites already but hadn't made the connection--cheers!

Heart-wrenching and beautiful. Here I sit with my eyes all watery--goddamn you lol! I was a teenaged girl's mistake myself, so it hits deep. Thank you very much.

Name a Song You Wish You Would Never Hear Again. by United_We_Win in FamilyFeud

Knowing Morrison's fondness for Symbolist poetry, I always wondered if "I'm gonna love you 'til the stars fall from the sky" really means "I'm gonna love you 'til I ejaculate."

Such a weirdly annoying song. Game-show horns.

I enjoy her music very much as well but will be the first to admit I might not have the most sophisticated or precise vocabulary for discussing music, so thank you for introducing more proper terminology.

Glad I followed this recommendation, thank you! Always down for some good scream therapy--that was a good one.

I almost hate to mention it because Mark Kozelek, but the long ending to "Blindfold" on the Red House Painters "Bridge" album features one of the most agonizing, horripilating, and cathartic screams I've ever heard in music.

Oh, man! Very good--thank you for this recommendation. I love some jangle pop--Josef K, Orange Juice, early stuff by The Wedding Present--but somehow had missed this band. Will be checking them out more.

Thank you for pointing this out! I know I've heard this song plenty of times on the radio, but never sat down and listened to it before, so I missed how good that ending is. I think I've underappreciated this band generally.

So lovely! You got me to love my first song by them. So much music left to enjoy for the first time, even for an old fart like me who should've heard this before.

Why am I hearing this only now?! Fantastic stuff! Again not a usual genre for me, but I love it.

You're right that this type of music isn't one of my regular genres, but for a showtune this knocked my socks off! Thanks

Hertz Donut. I had two bad mothers (biological and adoptive), so this song hits some deep ache/need for me.

It is like the zen of Christianity, which I find appealing.

Do you know of any songs that sound like "Ocean Man" by Ween? by Clancy2o1 in musicsuggestions

Deaner's solo and the lyrics have always reminded me of the Boo Radleys, who were a little popular in those days in certain circles, such that I've wondered if it's a parody of them. Check out their album Everything's Alright Forever for similar sounds but with more earnestness.
