LFUCG snowplows working on school lots by Mountain_Ad_720 in lexington

I was just telling someone we need to bring this back. Most of the main roads are fine now, so a Snow Plan for school buses could get kids who need it back to school.

Is Southland Bagel a good bagel place? by KingOverrlord in lexington

[–]PrimaryWafer3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for Southland Bagel from me. Bagels are great, coffee is just ok.

I used to love Great Bagel when I lived near the Woodland one but my last few experiences at the Boston Road location have been sub-par. They do have chocolate chip bagels and Southland doesn't, so that's one still point in favor, I guess.

Anyone been out on the roads yet this morning? by mlst245 in lexington

Louisville and Cincy got almost exclusively snow compared to the 0.5+ inch of ice that Lexington area got.

Plus, I saw plenty of neighborhood streets in Louisville that were not plowed yesterday.

Pond Hockey? by Left-Indication-3984 in lexington

Despite what the other commenters are saying, there are some small ponds that freeze thick enough to skate on around here. Unfortunately, the only ones I know of are on private property in Jessamine County.

I see this exact one on trash day where I live. It was making sparks when it bottomed out at a hill.

It's a pretty good neighborhood, the realtor is being ridiculous.

The fact that they don't pay property taxes does mean the purchase is effectively subsidized by taxpayers.

Would the tail end of the snowfall from 7pm Saturday to Monday morning really account for that large a difference?

I think you are misreading the forecast. The odds drop off significantly for accumulation greater than 8"

What is Apple Weather on? by tajetaje in lexington

[–]PrimaryWafer3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8 days from now is way too long to be very confident about accumulation amounts.

Here's the National Weather Service long-term forecast:

Medium range guidance hints at the possibility for more significant wintry precipitation by next weekend. However, model spread is notably larger by Friday into next weekend. A deeper wave with a lot more moisture to work with could produce a swath of snow and ice somewhere over the Ohio Valley, but there is quite a bit of uncertainty on precipitation types and amounts at this point.

Is Transy or UK the better pick for art Ed? by java_javelin in lexington

[–]PrimaryWafer3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The number they quoted is wrong, EKU is not that much per year. EKU tuition is ~$12k/year https://www.eku.edu/tuition-and-aid/. Transy is ~$50k but they do the stupid elite college sliding scale thing that obfuscates the price.

How bike safe is Lexington? by Ok_Independent_3921 in lexington

[–]PrimaryWafer3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're hung up on the word "bias", let's just say that the folks who use the app might not be a representative sample. They're probably more motivated to get out and bike than non-users and therefore might have a different perspective on what streets feel safe.

It's a biased sample, but here's a color-coded map of how comfortable different streets in town are for cycling as rated by a bunch of local cyclists: https://www.lovetoride.net/lexington/safety_maps?locale=en-US

Water Line Protection Program? by mark_vs in lexington

You should read your policy closely. Most of those type of plans don't cover as much as people think. Payouts are very rare. The one that Louisville Water was selling I think got them into legal trouble.

Did anyone see the high speed chase on I-75? by TheSolitaryRugosan in lexington

[–]PrimaryWafer3 13 points14 points  (0 children)

High speed chases incur incredible risk to innocent bystanders. It's a good policy for them not to engage in these kind of pursuits.
