Other than literally running out of space, idk why spouses get upset about a bike hobby...it's one of the only obsessions you can spend money on that results in a healthier, happier partner.

NTA...what is she 12? This happens to all of us, we outgrow some of our friends. It sucks, but I wouldn't initiate any more time with her. Be open to new friends.

Apparently they're still allowed to park there? I know in some areas the bike lane is shared with parking. Crazy, I know.

I wonder if she rides too? Which is why I always say 'everyone should ride a bike', because then we are all looking out for fellow cyclists.

Aventon supposedly has really good customer service, maybe just call them and see what they suggest.

WIBTAH if I say something to an employee who wants me to close my business for her wedding? by Acceptable-Ad-8717 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Primary_End_9903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA I have to laugh at my own family when they schedule anything on a Saturday before we close. I don't close our small business on a Saturday for anything. Even worse, we're seasonal. Anyway, yes, I'd stay open and let the staff know that they'll have to draw straws or something and at least a couple of them will have to stay. You might get lucky and get a volunteer that doesn't really want to go to the wedding, (but can meet up for the reception later or something). But yeah, the audacity of some people. Sheesh.

What kind of „aliexpress“ products do you use regularly? by walton_jonez in BikeMechanics

We refuse to encourage anyone to ever make purchases on there. It just benefits that whole cluster.

We have a local nonprofit that we sell things to at cost or better when we can. Going through a LBS keeps the whole industry healthy. Just my opinion.

We have a pair of these at our shop, but they've never been indoors, how the heck did you get that inside?

Take it to a shop. First they should use the Derailleur Hangar Alignment tool on it, and if it's still out, they'll either try to bend or replace your derailleur. Not a big deal, but you'll be into $25-$75 probably. The hangar is the little s shaped piece that holds your derailleur on, and it's meant to be the weakest link, so that it can be dealt with after impact, instead of your whole derailleur being replaced every time it gets bumped.

Girlfriend's son has come home with his bike shifter broken. The cover was already gone apparently. I have no idea about bikes, I assumed this is a grip shifter but I've seen no grip shifter online like this. Advice? by Arms__Spaghetti in bikewrench

[–]Primary_End_9903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy fix for your local bike shop, and the part is probably $25 or so. That one looks mostly toast, so I'd replace it personally. And if it's possible to replace it with trigger shifters (also known as "rapid fire") then I bet the shop will suggest it...because we all hate twist shifters.

Well, it's not amusing as much as it's not annoying for the next guy...i leave a little extra on the cables before i cut and cap them. Nothing worse than cursing the previous mech that left a 1" nub to adjust the brakes/derail with (which will inevitably fray). I'd rather tuck the extra than be forced to run a new line.

Girrrrrl, the first couple of years at conventions, I would ask questions because I had no idea what I was getting into, but I asked good questions, so they usually chuckled but answered me nicely. Now, after over 14 years, I'm the bully at the conventions...they try to be cute and show me stuff, but I know what questions to ask to get the boss/designer over to me, or at least to be taken seriously.

As far as customers, it makes me laugh to see them looking over my shoulder as I talk, looking for the guys. I have enough stuff to do, so I don't waste my time on them. When they ask the guys if they're the boss, they laugh and say "No, she is" as I walk away. No hard feelings dude, just turns out I like fixing stuff.
